Sickle cell disease prevention: How prepared are the senior secondary school students in Surulere Local Government Area, Lagos, Nigeria?

Background:  Sickle cell disease (SCD), a common hereditary disease, can be prevented by preparing young people ahead of the conception of an affected foetus.

Aim:  To assess the knowledge and attitude regarding SCD amongst senior secondary school students in Surulere Local Government Area (LGA), Lagos, Nigeria.

Setting:  Senior secondary schools in Surulere LGA.

Waiting Times for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis in a Nigerian Population.

Background: Prostate biopsy remains an important surgical procedure in the diagnostic pathway for prostate cancer, but access to prostate biopsy service is poorly studied in the Nigerian population. While there has been a well-documented delay in patient presentation with prostate cancer in Nigeria, little is however known about how long patients wait to have a histological diagnosis of prostate cancer and start treatment after presenting at Nigerian hospitals.

Method: This was a descriptive retrospective study to document the specific duration of the various timelines in getting a diagnosis of prostate cancer at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Nigeria.

Analytical determination of theoretic quantities for multiple potential.

The approximate analytical solutions of the three-dimensional radial Schrödinger wave equation with a multiple potential function has been studied using a suitable approximation scheme to the centrifugal term in the framework of parametric Nikiforov-Uvarov method. The energy equation and the wave function were obtained. The calculated wave function was used to study Shannon entropy and variance via expectation values.

Bound state solutions of the Schrödinger equation and its application to some diatomic molecules.

We apply the supersymmetric quantum mechanics and shape invariance approach to obtain the solutions of the 3-dimensional Schrödinger equation in the presence of a newly proposed potential model called hyperbolic-sinus potential function for any ℓ-state. Rotational-vibrational energy eigenvalues of some diatomic molecules are numerically calculated. Special cases of interest of the hyperbolic-sinus potential function are also studied.

Overview of paediatric urology practice in lagos state university teaching hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

Introduction: Paediatric urology is one of the subspecialities of urology, and in most climes, it is practised by the urologists and paediatric surgeons, and likewise in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). The urologists see and manage most of these cases in LASUTH. There has been no formal training in this subspeciality.
