This paper provides elements in support of the random zero-point radiation field (zpf) as an essential ontological ingredient needed to explain distinctive properties of quantum-mechanical systems. We show that when an otherwise classical particle is connected to the zpf, a drastic, qualitative change in the dynamics takes place, leading eventually to the quantum dynamics. In particular, we demonstrate that in parallel with the evolution of the canonical variables of the particle into quantum operators satisfying the basic commutator x^,p^=iℏ, also the field canonical variables are transformed, giving rise to the corresponding creation and annihilation operators a^†,a^, satisfying a^,a^†=1.

Monoxenic cultivation of pathogenic Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites with Escherichia coli serotype 055 which binds strongly to the Gal/GalNAc amoebic lectin, markedly improved the growth of E. histolytica and produced a significant decrease in cysteine proteinase activity and a lower cytopathic activity on monolayer cells after 3 months of monoxenic culture. However, after long term monoxenic culture (12 months) the proteolytic and cytopathic activities were recovered and the amoebic growth reached the maximum yield.

Prevalence of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) was determined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methodology on DNA extracted from the gills of wild black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon collected from 7 sampling sites in the Philippines. These 7 sampling sites are the primary sources of spawners and broodstock for hatchery use. During the dry season, WSSV was detected in shrimp from all sites except Bohol, but during the wet season it was not detected in any site except Palawan.

Identification of gene mutations in Mendelian disorders is often determined by linkage analysis and positional cloning, an approach that is difficult for fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) due to a low reproductive fitness that results in a small number of multigenerational families showing inheritance of the disease. Altered signaling pathways can be investigated as a complementary method to identify the consequences of the mutated gene responsible for FOP and to identify potential therapeutic targets. Candidate signaling pathways for FOP are those that malfunctioning could account for the malformation of the great toes during embryonic development and could explain the postnatal progressive heterotopic endochondral ossification.
