Close monitoring of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is important for early recognition of worsening renal function to prevent further deterioration. Safe conversion from twice-daily tacrolimus (TD-Tac) to once-daily tacrolimus (OD-Tac) has been reported, but the effects on eGFR are contrasting. The aim of our study is to evaluate long-term stability of eGFR after 1:1 conversion from TD-Tac to OD-Tac and the effects on serum cytokine blood levels.

The race model inequality (RMI), as first introduced by Miller (Cognitive Psychology, 14, 247-279, 1982), entails an upper bound on the amount of statistical facilitation for reaction times (RTs) attainable by a race model within the redundant-signals paradigm. A violation of RMI may be considered as empirical evidence for a coactivation model rather than a race model. Here, we introduce a novel nonparametric procedure for evaluating the RMI for single participant analysis.

Morbidly obese patients often elect for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), a form of bariatric surgery that triggers a remarkable 30% reduction in excess body weight and reversal of insulin resistance for those who are type II diabetic. A more complete understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms that drive the complex metabolic reprogramming post-RYGB could lead to innovative non-invasive therapeutics that mimic the beneficial effects of the surgery, namely weight loss, achievement of glycemic control, or reversal of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). To facilitate these discoveries, we hereby demonstrate the first multi-omic interrogation of a rodent RYGB model to reveal tissue-specific pathway modules implicated in the control of body weight regulation and energy homeostasis.

Data on their potential toxicity in INS are needed, to consider repeated infusions.

The present study investigates the benefits of the dietary intake of soy protein on adipose tissue dysfunction in a rat model that mimics several aspects of the human metabolic syndrome. Wistar rats were fed a sucrose-rich diet (SRD) for 4 months. After that, half of the animals continued with SRD until month 8 while in the other half, casein protein was replaced by isolated soy protein for 4 months (SRD-S).

Gold nanoparticles as scaffolds for poor water soluble and difficult to vehiculate antiparkinson codrugs.

We report the facile and non-covalent preparation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) stabilized by an antiparkinson codrug based on lipoic acid (LA). The obtained AuNPs appear stable in both dimethyl sulfoxide and fetal bovine serum and able to load an amount of codrug double the weight of gold. These NPs were demonstrated to be safe and biocompatible towards primary human blood cells and human neuroblastoma cells, one of the most widely used cellular models to study dopaminergic neural cells, therefore are ideal drug carriers for difficult to solubilize molecules.

Modulation of coupling in the Escherichia coli ATP synthase by ADP and P: Role of the ε subunit C-terminal domain.

Morphine-Modified Hepatobiliary Scanning Protocol for the Diagnosis of Acute Cholecystitis.

Objective: We report a morphine-modified hepatoiminodiacetic acid (HIDA) scanning protocol that uses 2 mg of morphine IV push at the bedside as a pretreatment. We compared this protocol with the original HIDA scanning protocol, which included delayed imaging for up to 4 hours without the use of morphine. Moreover, we contrast our results with the results of studies in the literature.

Mutational Spectrum of CYP24A1 Gene in a Cohort of Italian Patients with Idiopathic Infantile Hypercalcemia.

Background/aims: Loss-of-function mutations in the CYP24A1 gene, which encodes the vitamin D-24 hydroxylase, have been recognized as a cause of elevated 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D concentrations, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, nephrocalcinosis and nephrolithiasis in infants and adults. As only a case report describing 2 adult patients has been reported in Italian population, we report here the mutation analysis of CYP24A1 gene in an Italian cohort of 12 pediatric and adult patients with idiopathic infantile hypercalcemia (IIH).

Methods: We performed mutational screening of CYP24A1 gene in a cohort of 12 Italian patients: 8 children with nephrocalcinosis, hypercalcemia and PTH levels <10 pg/ml and 4 adult patients with nephrolithiasis, mild hypercalcemia and PTH levels <10 pg/ml from 11 unrelated Italian families.

A Long-Term Psychological Observation in an Adolescent Affected with Gardner Diamond Syndrome.

Gardner-Diamond syndrome (GDS) is an uncommon disease clinically characterized by a wide spectrum of psycho-emotive symptoms associated with painful ecchymoses/purpuric lesions and positivity of auto-erythrocyte sensitization skin test. Herein, a perspective clinical and psychological observation of an adolescent GDS is firstly reported focusing on her psychological features long-term monitored for a 1-year period. The administration of a standardized tools battery allowed us to define psychological features of the young patient over time and to monitored clinical course and response to treatment.
