This study was undertaken to investigate serum and follicular fluid (FF) concentrations of some biochemical metabolites during the low (May to October) and the peak breeding season (November to April) in female camels with small and large follicles. For this purpose, ovaries from 92 female camels aged 3-7 years (young) or 8-15 years (adult) with clinically normal reproductive tract and slaughtered over a 24-month period were collected. The camel is known to be a seasonal breeder and, in the male camel, the breeding activity maximizes during the rutting period (winter and spring seasons). During the non-rutting period (summer and autumn), however, the breeding activity almost ceases completely. CEMB's Forensic DNA typing project is directed towards the introduction of DNA typing technique in Pakistan's criminal justice system so as to exonerate an innocent and wrongly accused person and incriminates the culprit. The present study is a part of the project of CEMB to analyze Sindhi and NWFP (North West Frontier Province) populations for five STR (Short Tandem Repeat) loci out of 13 CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) loci. Allelic frequencies and heterozygosity for STR markers D3S1358, D5S818, D7S820, D18S51 and FGA (FIBRA) were determined.

It has been argued that the increase in size of the pituitary of castrated cockerels is due to hypertrophy of gonadotropic cells, some of which have been converted from other pituitary basophils. A counter argument could maintain that new gonadotropes are recruited from chromophobes that are replaced by mitotic division of undifferentiated cells. Since mitosis requires thymine for DNA replication, labelled thymine (H3-thymidine) incorporated in DNA identifies new cell formation.
