The Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus), classified as a new species since 1998, is underexplored in ecotoxicology owing to ethical constraints and the lack of specific in vitro models. Herein, we established the first skin fibroblast cell line (TaSF) from an Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin stranded along the Pearl River Estuary, China. TaSF cells exhibited strong proliferation in early passages but ceased mitosis at passage 19, likely owing to reaching the Hayflick limit.

Article Synopsis
  • - Natural polyphenols, specifically from green and black tea, were tested as alternatives to synthetic antioxidants in Cantonese sausages to reduce lipid and protein oxidation.
  • - Different concentrations of tea extracts were added to sausages, significantly decreasing oxidation levels and improving sausage redness and hardness, though they did affect some protein bonds.
  • - Consumer taste tests indicated no significant preference between the tea-enhanced sausages and the control group, suggesting tea extracts can be effectively used as natural antioxidants without compromising sensory qualities.

Article Synopsis
  • - ILC2s are important in allergic diseases, influencing various immune cells involved in type 2 inflammation, but their role in airway neutrophil infiltration in severe asthma is not well understood.
  • - The study found that ILC2s are responsible for neutrophil buildup in the lungs of allergic mice, with HMGB1 identified as a key molecule that attracts these neutrophils.
  • - By inhibiting HMGB1 in ILC2s and reducing lipid droplet accumulation, researchers were able to decrease neutrophil infiltration and airway inflammation, highlighting a new pathway for immune signaling through lipid droplets in allergic reactions.

Beta-agonists are a class of drugs for treating asthma, which are often illegally used as additives in livestock breeding, causing muscle trembling, panic, headache, and other distressing symptoms. Here, we developed a rapid and non-destructive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method for the detection of beta-agonists in pig urine. The common characteristics of beta-agonists in Raman spectra were summarized.

Dielectric capacitors are pivotal elements in advanced pulsed power devices and high-voltage, high-capacity power electronic converters, crucial for efficient energy storage. However, a major challenge remains the significant reduction in energy density and charge-discharged efficiency of dielectric polymers under high temperatures, primarily due to heightened electrical conduction losses. This study introduces a universal approach of heterojunction interface engineering in polyethersulfone (PESU) composites, aimed at improving capacitive performance across a broad temperature range.

Multilayer-structured nanocomposites are recognized as a prominent strategy for overcoming the paradox between the breakdown strength (E) and polarization (P) to achieve superior energy storage performance. However, current multilayer-structured nanocomposites involving substantial quantities of nanofillers (>10 vol.%) for high dielectric constant as polarization layer will inevitably deteriorate mechanical properties and breakdown strength.

Cancer is one of the most serious diseases that threaten human life and health. Among all kinds of diseases, the mortality rate of malignant tumors is the second highest, second only to cardio-cerebrovascular diseases. Cancer treatment typically involves imaging, surgery, and pathological analysis.

Distinguished from traditional vulcanized rubber, which is not reusable, thermoplastic elastomer (TPV) is a material that possesses both the excellent resilience of traditional vulcanized rubber and the recyclability of thermoplastic, and TPVs have been widely studied in both academia and industry because of their outstanding green properties. In this study, new thermoplastic elastomers based on solution polymerized styrene butadiene rubber (SSBR) and thermoplastic elastomers (SEPSs/SEBSs) were prepared by the first dynamic vulcanization process. The high slip resistance and abrasion resistance of SSBR are utilized to improve the poor slip resistance of SEPSs/SEBSs, which provides a direction for the recycling of shoe sole materials.

Amyloodiniosis, caused by the ectoparasite Amyloodinium ocellatum, affects the healthy development of mariculture. This study used a local infection method to identify the pathogenic target organ responsible for the death of infected fish. Comparing the relationship between the abundance of trophonts in gills and skin with the mortality of infected fish using local infection showed that severe gill infections cause the mortality of infected fish.

Article Synopsis
  • RNAs, especially long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), play important roles in regulating various cellular processes, moving beyond their traditional role in protein translation.
  • Abnormal expression of certain lncRNAs is linked to cancer development, including tumor growth and spread, prompting a review of five specific lncRNAs associated with these processes.
  • The study suggests these lncRNAs could serve as independent biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and treatment, while also highlighting ongoing challenges and future research directions in this area.

Background: Laser Hemorrhoidoplasty (LHP) is a minimally invasive surgical option for the management of hemorrhoidal disease that has been increasingly adopted by surgeons over the last decade. Two wavelengths; 980 nm and 1470 nm have been employed in LHP. However, no data exist comparing the effects of these two wavelengths for this indication.

Objectives: To investigate the impact of combined treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) with electroacupuncture (EA) and capeOX (combined administration of fluorouracil, oxaliplatin and capecitabine) on the tumor volume, weight, spleen coefficient, apoptosis and ferroptosis of tumor tissue, and liver and kidney functions in nude mice with CRC, so as to explore its mechanisms underlying inhibiting CRC and alleviating toxic reactions of capeOX.

Methods: Female Balb/c nude mice were randomly assigned to 3 groups:model, capeOX, and EA+capeOX, with 8 nude mice in each group. The CRC model was established by subcutaneous injection of colon cancer cells at the right inguinal region.

The study aims to explore the effects of combining repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) with sling exercise (SE) intervention in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). This approach aims to directly stimulate brain circuits and indirectly activate trunk muscles to influence motor cortex plasticity. However, the impact of this combined intervention on motor cortex organization and clinical symptom improvement is still unclear, as well as whether it is more effective than either intervention alone.

Accurate tumor diagnosis by pathologists relies on identifying specific morphological characteristics. However, summarizing these unique morphological features in tumor classifications can be challenging. Although deep learning models have been extensively studied for tumor classification, their indirect and subjective interpretation obstructs pathologists from comprehending the model and discerning the morphological features accountable for classifications.

Film capacitors have become key electronic components for electrical energy storage installations and high-power electronic systems. Nonetheless, high-temperature and high-electric-field environments would cause a surge of the energy loss, placing a fundamental challenge for film capacitors applied in harsh environments. Here, we constructed a composite film, combining poly(ether sulfone) (PESU) with excellent thermal stability and large-band-gap filler boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs).
