An amidinato-phosphino ligand ArN[double bond, length as m-dash]C(R)NH(o-PhPCH) (Ar = 2,4,6-MeCH, R = Ph (1); Ar = 2,6-iPrCH, R = Ph (2); Ar = 2,6-iPrCH, R = tBu (3)) was prepared. The ligand reacted with CrCl(THF) to yield the N,P-chelation complex [ArNHC(R)[double bond, length as m-dash]N(o-PhPCH)]CrCl(THF) (4-6), and the ligand's lithium salt ArN[double bond, length as m-dash]C(R)N(o-PhPCH)Li reacted with the respective CrCl(THF) and CrCl(THF) to give the N,N,P-chelation complexes [ArN[double bond, length as m-dash]C(R)N(o-PhPCH)]CrCl(THF) (7-8) and {[ArN[double bond, length as m-dash]C(R)N(o-PhPCH)]Cr(μ-Cl)} (9-11). Complexes 1-11 were characterized by IR, NMR (for 1-3), EPR (for 4-11) spectroscopy and CHN elemental analysis, of which 3, 5, 8, and 11 were further studied by X-ray crystallography.

The intensive computation of High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) engenders challenges for the hardwired encoder in terms of the hardware overhead and the power dissipation. On the other hand, the constrains in hardwired encoder design seriously degrade the efficiency of software oriented fast coding unit (CU) partition mode decision algorithms. A fast algorithm is attributed as VLSI friendly, when it possesses the following properties.

Background: Fragile X Syndrome is the leading monogenetic cause of autism and most common form of intellectual disability. Previous studies have implicated changes in dendritic spine architecture as the primary result of loss of Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein (FMRP), but recent work has shown that neural proliferation is decreased and cell death is increased with either loss of FMRP or overexpression of FMRP. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of loss of FMRP on behavior and cellular activity.

The retinotectal circuit is the major component of the amphibian visual system. It is comprised of the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in the eye, which project their axons to the optic tectum and form synapses onto postsynaptic tectal neurons. The retinotectal circuit is relatively simple, and develops quickly: Xenopus tadpoles begin displaying retinotectal-dependent visual avoidance behaviors by approximately 7-8 days post-fertilization, early larval stage.

Mitochondrial dysfunction induced by mitochondria-related β-amyloid (Aβ) accumulation is increasingly being considered a novel risk factor for sporadic Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology. The close relationship between chronic sleep restriction (CSR) and cortical Aβ elevation was confirmed recently. By assessing frontal cortical mitochondrial function (electron microscopy manifestation, cytochrome C oxidase concentration, ATP level, and mitochondrial membrane potential) and the levels of mitochondria-related Aβ in 9-month-old adult male C57BL/6J mice subjected to CSR and as an environmental control (CO) group, we aimed to evaluate the association of CSR with mitochondrial dysfunction and mitochondria-related Aβ accumulation.

Up conversion is an Anti-Stokes luminescent process by which photons of low energy are piled up to generate light at a higher energy. Here we show that the addition of fluoride anions to a D2O solution of a macrocyclic erbium complex leads to the formation of a supramolecular [(ErL)2F](+) assembly in which fluoride is sandwiched between two complexes, held together by the synergistic interactions of the Er-F-Er bridging bond, four intercomplex hydrogen bonds and two aromatic stacking interactions. Room temperature excitation into the Er absorption bands at 980 nm of a solution of the complex in D2O results in the observation of up converted emission at 525, 550 and 650 nm attributed to Er centred transitions via a two-step excitation.

In this study, we have employed the first-principles density functional theory (DFT) computational method to predict the influence of surface segregation on the magnetic properties of small L10 CoPt nanoparticles. For both the modelled cuboidal (with a chemical formula of Co26Pt12) and cuboctahedral (with a chemical formula of Co18Pt20) CoPt nanoparticles, the DFT calculations predict that Pt surface segregation should occur thermodynamically. Associated with this Pt surface segregation, the surface-segregated CoPt magnetic nanoparticles are predicted to have significantly reduced magnetic moments and magnetic anisotropy energies than those of the corresponding bulk-terminated (i.

In many regions of the vertebrate brain, microcircuits generate local recurrent activity that aids in the processing and encoding of incoming afferent inputs. Local recurrent activity can amplify, filter, and temporally and spatially parse out incoming input. Determining how these microcircuits function is of great interest because it provides glimpses into fundamental processes underlying brain computation.

Necroptosis, a novel form of programmed cell death, was recently shown to be strongly associated with intestinal inflammation in mice and in pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Persistent inflammation of the colon is an important risk factor for colorectal cancer. Necrostatin-1 (Nec-1), known as a specific inhibitor of necroptosis, through preventing the receptor-interacting protein (RIP) 1 and RIP3 interaction.

Marrow stromal cells (MSCs) can be induced to differentiate into Schwann-like cells under classical induction conditions. However, cells derived from this method are unstable, exhibiting a low neurotrophin expression level after the induction conditions are removed. In Schwann cell (SC) culture, progesterone (PROG) enhances neurotrophic synthesis and myelination, specifically regulating the expression of the myelin protein zero (P0)- and peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP22)-encoding genes by acting in concert or in synergy with insulin and glucocorticoids (GLUCs).

Previous diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies found that human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection led to white matter (WM) microstructure degeneration. Most of the DTI studies were cross-sectional and thus merely investigated only one specific point in the disease. In order to systematically study the WM impairments caused by HIV infection, more longitudinal studies are needed.
