Background: The efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) in managing irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) accompanied by anxiety and depression remains uncertain. Thus, a systematic review was carried out employing meta-analysis and network pharmacology to ascertain the efficacy and underlying mechanisms of CHM therapy.

This study investigates the effects of forest aging on ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungal community and foraging behavior and their interactions with plant-soil attributes. We explored EcM fungal communities and hyphal exploration types via rDNA sequencing and investigated their associations with plant-soil traits by comparing younger (~120 years) and older (~250 years) temperate forest stands in Northeast China. The results revealed increases in the EcM fungal richness and abundance with forest aging, paralleled by plant-soil feedback shifting from explorative to conservative nutrient use strategies.

Parallel cascade selection molecular dynamics (PaCS-MD) is an enhanced conformational sampling method conducted as a "repetition of time leaps in parallel worlds", comprising cycles of multiple molecular dynamics (MD) simulations performed in parallel and selection of the initial structures of MDs for the next cycle. We developed PaCS-Toolkit, an optimized software utility enabling the use of different MD software and trajectory analysis tools to facilitate the execution of the PaCS-MD simulation and analyze the obtained trajectories, including the preparation for the subsequent construction of the Markov state model. PaCS-Toolkit is coded with Python, is compatible with various computing environments, and allows for easy customization by editing the configuration file and specifying the MD software and analysis tools to be used.

Terrestrial species are predicted to migrate northward under global warming conditions, yet little is known about the direction and magnitude of change in microbial distribution patterns. In this continental-scale study with more than 1600 forest soil samples, we verify the existence of core microbiota and lump them into a manageable number of eco-clusters based on microbial habitat preferences. By projecting the abundance differences of eco-clusters between future and current climatic conditions, we observed the potential warming-driven migration of the core microbiota under warming, partially verified by a field warming experiment at Southwest China.

The growth of the species population is greatly influenced by seasonally varying environments. By regarding the maturation age of the species as a periodic developmental process, we propose a time periodic and diffusive model in bounded domain. To analyze this model with periodic delay, we first define the basic reproduction ratio ₀ of the spatially homogeneous model and then show that the species population will be extinct when ₀≤1 while remains persistent and tends to periodic oscillation if ₀>1.

We present the analysis and suppression of asymmetric modes in a Ku-band Cerenkov-type oscillator numerically and experimentally. The asymmetric modes generated in the initial experiments were identified to be HE11, HE21, and HE31 modes, respectively, by analyzing of the dispersion relationships, the simulation results and the experiment phenomenon. The factors, such as the cathode emission uniformity, the diode voltage, guiding magnetic field, and the concentricity play key roles in the excitation and suppression of these asymmetric modes.
