Biomass burning is an important source of brown carbon (BrC) aerosols, which influence climate by affecting the Earth's radiative balance. However, the transformation pathways of BrC chromophores, especially in the presence of photochemically active species, such as nitrate, are not well understood. In this study, the nitrate-mediated aqueous-phase photooxidation of three typical BrC chromophores from biomass burning was investigated, including 4-nitrocatechol, 3-nitrosalicylic acid, and 3,4-dinitrophenol.

The problems of complex background, low quality of finger vein images, and poor discriminative features have been the bottleneck of feature extraction and finger vein recognition. To this end, we propose a feature extraction algorithm based on the open-set testing protocol. In order to eliminate the interference of irrelevant areas, this paper proposes the idea of segmentation-assisted classification, that is, using the rough mask of the finger vein to constrain the feature learning process so that the network can focus on the vein area and learn greater weight for the vein.

Great progress has been made in automated vessel segmentation, but few studies have focused on thin vessel breakage and false-positives in areas with lesions or low contrast. In this work, we propose a new network, differential matched filtering guided attention UNet (DMF-AU), to address these issues, incorporating a differential matched filtering layer, feature anisotropic attention, and a multiscale consistency constrained backbone to perform thin vessel segmentation.

Objectives: To address whether sparing the medial retropharyngeal lymph node (MRLN) region from elective irradiation volume provides non-inferior local relapse-free survival versus standard radiotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Design: Open-label, non-inferiority, multicentre, randomised, phase 3 trial.
Setting: Three Chinese hospitals between 20 November 2017 and 3 December 2018.
The effects of partial substitution of NaCl with 0%, 20%, 30% and 40% KCl on the physical characteristics, bacterial community and flavour profile of traditional dry sausage were investigated in this study. With the increase in KCl substitution ratio, the moisture content, astringency, bitterness and umami increased significantly, and the saltiness gradually decreased (p < 0.05).

Here we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine whether meat mutagens [PhIP, MeIQx, DiMeIQx, total HCA, and B(a)P] present a risk factor for human cancer.
Methods: We searched the following databases for relevant articles published from inception to 10 Oct 2021 with no language restrictions: Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Baidu Academic, Zhejiang Digital Library.
Black carbon (BC) is a vital climate forcer in the atmosphere, but measurements of BC vertical profiles near the surface remain limited. This study investigates time-resolved vertical profiling of BC in both dry (December 2017) and wet (August 2018) seasons in Shenzhen, China, at a 356-m meteorological tower. In the dry season, five micro-aethalometers were deployed at different heights (2, 50, 100, 200, and 350 m), while four heights (2, 100, 200, and 350 m) were measured in the wet season.
