The brain-computer interface (BCI) based on motor imagery electroencephalography (EEG) shows great potential in neurorehabilitation due to its non-invasive nature and ease of use. However, motor imagery EEG signals have low signal-to-noise ratios and spatiotemporal resolutions, leading to low decoding recognition rates with traditional neural networks. To address this, this paper proposed a three-dimensional (3D) convolutional neural network (CNN) method that learns spatial-frequency feature maps, using Welch method to calculate the power spectrum of EEG frequency bands, converted time-series EEG into a brain topographical map with spatial-frequency information.

We present a concise asymmetric synthesis of (-)-Bao Gong Teng A, a 2-hydroxylated tropane alkaloid with hypotensive and miotic activities isolated from the Chinese herb Benth. Using an Evans chiral auxiliary, we achieve a regio- and stereoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between -chlorobenzyl pyridinium salt and ()-3-acryloyl-4-phenyloxazolidin-2-one, efficiently generating the tropane skeleton on a decagram scale. This methodology provides a rapid and practical synthesis of optically active (-)-Bao Gong Teng A for further biological studies.

Recently, electroencephalogram (EEG) based on motor imagery (MI) have gained significant traction in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, particularly for the rehabilitation of paralyzed patients. But the low signal-to-noise ratio of MI EEG makes it difficult to decode effectively and hinders the development of BCI. In this paper, a method of attention-based multiscale EEGNet (AMEEGNet) was proposed to improve the decoding performance of MI-EEG.

Green tea seed oil (GTSO; Camellia sinensis) is rich in bioactive compounds and has great potential for preventing intestinal inflammation. Conversely, high-fat diets have been shown to promote or aggravate gastrointestinal inflammation, and the bioactive ingredients of GTSO face difficulty passing through the gastrointestinal tract while remaining intact. This study employed whey protein isolate (WPI) and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na) to prepare a GTSO-loaded double-layer emulsion.

Oral administration of probiotics has demonstrated substantial potential in alleviating colitis. However, most of the ingested microorganisms struggle to survive the harsh conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, leading to decreased efficacy. In the present study, using double emulsification (W/O/W) and complex coacervation methods, we developed a gelatin/carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)-based probiotic microcapsule and analyzed the efficacy of encapsulated probiotics in preventing dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis in mice.

Deformable registration plays a fundamental and crucial role in scenarios such as surgical navigation and image-assisted analysis. While deformable registration methods based on unsupervised learning have shown remarkable success in predicting displacement fields with high accuracy, many existing registration networks are limited by the lack of multi-scale analysis, restricting comprehensive utilization of global and local features in the images. To address this limitation, we propose a novel registration network called multi-scale feature extraction-integration network (MF-Net).

Biphasic glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) is essential for blood glucose regulation, but a mechanistic model incorporating the recently identified islet β cell heterogeneity remains elusive. Here, we show that insulin secretion is spatially and dynamically heterogeneous across the islet. Using a zinc-based fluorophore with spinning-disc confocal microscopy, we reveal that approximately 40% of islet cells, which we call readily releasable β cells (RRβs), are responsible for 80% of insulin exocytosis events.

KCNQ (Kv7) channels are voltage-gated, phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate- (PIP-) modulated potassium channels that play essential roles in regulating the activity of neurons and cardiac myocytes. Hundreds of mutations in KCNQ channels are closely related to various cardiac and neurological disorders, such as long QT syndrome, epilepsy, and deafness, which makes KCNQ channels important drug targets. During the past several years, the application of single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) technique in the structure determination of KCNQ channels has greatly advanced our understanding of their molecular mechanisms.
