Innovative double-emission carbon dots (DE-CDs) were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method using fennel and m-phenylenediamine (m-PD) as precursors. These DE-CDs exhibited dual emission wavelengths at 432 and 515 nm under different excitations, making them highly versatile for fluorescence-based applications. The fluorescence of the DE-CDs was efficiently quenched by tetracycline (TC) through the inner filter effect (IFE), allowing for the construction of a sensitive dual-response fluorescent sensor.

Pomegranate seeds, a by-product of pomegranate processing, are gaining attention in food industries due to their high antioxidant activity. However, the lack of quality markers reflecting activity and spatial characteristics limits their utilization and product stability. In this research, a selective and sensitive method integrating ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry with feature-based molecular networking, and desorption electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry imaging developed to identify components and locate in-situ images of quality markers via spatial metabolomics analysis.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Background: The pathophysiological evolutions involved in early-stage Alzheimer's disease (AD) are not well understood.

Methods: We used data of 2,923 plasma proteins from 51,296 non-demented middle-aged adults in the UK Biobank with 15 years of follow-up. We first identified AD-associated proteins using Cox proportional hazard models and then delineated their temporal sequences to characterize the pathophysiological evolution.

Background: Pivotal Alzheimer's Disease (AD) trials typically require thousands of participants, resulting in long enrollment timelines and substantial costs. We leverage deep learning predictive models to create prognostic scores (forecasted control outcome) of trial participants and in combination with a linear statistical model to increase statistical power in randomized clinical trials (RCT). This is a straightforward extension of the traditional RCT analysis, allowing for ease of use in any clinical program.

The current research revealed a strong link between lipid reprogramming and dysregulated lipid metabolism to the genesis and development of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Pathologically, ccRCC exhibits a high concentration of lipid droplets within the cytoplasm. HIF-2α expression has previously been demonstrated to be elevated in ccRCC caused by mutations in the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) gene, which plays a vital role in the development of renal cell carcinoma.

Anterior disc displacement without reduction (ADDwoR) is one of the most common types temporomandibular disorders (TMD), which is often characterized by joint pain, abnormal joint sounds, and limited mouth opening. Disc repositioning has been described as an effective method to reduce joint pain and improve range of motion. Yang's arthroscopic disc repositioning and suturing surgery has been reported to be the most stable technique with 95%-98% of success rate.

Male infertility has become an increasingly severe global health issue, with its incidence significantly rising over the past few decades. This paper delves into the crucial role of epigenetics in male reproductive health, focusing particularly on the effects of DNA methylation, histone modifications, chromatin remodeling and non-coding RNAs regulation on spermatogenesis. Exposure to various environmental factors can cause sperm DNA damage, leading to epigenetic abnormalities.

Direct understanding of the formation and crystallization of low-dimensional (LD) perovskites with varying dimensionalities employing the same bulky cations can offer insights into LD perovskites and their heterostructures with 3D perovskites. In this study, the secondary amine cation of N-methyl-1-(naphthalen-1-yl)methylammonium (M-NMA) and the formation dynamics of its corresponding LD perovskite are investigated. The intermolecular π-π stacking of M-NMA and their connection with inorganic PbI octahedrons within the product structures control the formation of LD perovskite.

The prognosis of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) patients is relatively poor, and there is currently no standard treatment plan. Most patients choose high-dose chemotherapy based on methotrexate. While traditional chemotherapy combined with biological therapy has achieved limited results, some patients still do not respond to treatment or cannot tolerate its toxicity and side effects.

Objectives: To explore whether the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio are associated with the trajectories of depressive symptoms.

Methods: In this longitudinal study, 4215 participants aged 45 years and older were recruited from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study from 2011 to 2018. The trajectories of depressive symptoms, measured by the 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CESD-10), were identified using group-based trajectory modeling.

Porcine stool-associated RNA virus (Posavirus) is an unclassified virus with sequence similarity to viruses in the order of Picornaviridae. In China, lineage 1 Posavirus (Posavirus 1) has been circulating in the field since its initial emergence in 2014 however no other lineages have been reported. To investigate the genetic diversity of Posavirus in China, 1200 diarrheic samples were collected from pigs in China.

This study aims to explore various key factors influencing the academic performance of college students, including metacognitive awareness, learning motivation, participation in learning, environmental factors, time management, and mental health. By employing the chi-square test to identify features closely related to academic performance, this paper discussed the main influencing factors and utilized machine learning models (such as LOG, SVC, RFC, XGBoost) for prediction. Experimental results indicate that the XGBoost model performs the best in terms of recall and accuracy, providing a robust prediction for academic performance.

Keto reductases are crucial NAD(P)H-dependent enzymes used for the enantioselective synthesis of alcohols from prochiral ketones. Typically, the NADPH cofactor is regenerated through a second enzyme and/or substrate. However, photocatalytic cofactor regeneration using water as a sacrificial electron and hydrogen donor presents a promising alternative, albeit a challenging one.
