Read-across, has generated much attention and has been used in many regulatory schemes as an alternative approach to testing globally. The regulatory application of read-across in the chemical management in China is progressing but still limited. A workshop on the "Read-across: Principle, case study and its potential regulatory application in China", organized by the Chemical Risk Assessment Specialty Group under the Committee of Industrial Toxicology of Chinese Society of Toxicology, was held on May 28, 2019 to discuss the potential broader application and acceptance of read-across to support chemical risk assessment in China.

A comparative study on the structural features of humic acids extracted from lignites using comprehensive spectral analyses.

The lignite reserves of Zhaotong and Mile in China are abundant and lignite utilizations are limited, however, humic acids (HAs) extracted from lignites play a significant role in many fields including agriculture, environmental protection and so on. Herein, the structures of HAs extracted from Zhaotong and Mile lignites (denoted as ZLHA and MLHA, respectively) were characterized and compared to each other using comprehensive spectral analyses. As a result, the UV-Vis spectrum analyses of HAs indicated that the molecular weight of MLHA is larger than that of ZLHA.

To evaluate the associations of sarcopenia and previous falls with 2-year major osteoporotic fractures (MOFs) in community-dwelling older adults. Four thousand Chinese men and women ≥ 65 years recruited from Hong Kong communities were prospectively followed up. Measures of muscle mass, grip strength, gait speed and falls in the previous year were recorded at baseline, the 2nd year and the 4th year visit for each subject.

Background: The pathogenesis of dental caries remains unclear, with increasing evidence suggesting that genetic susceptibility plays an essential role. Methods: A systematic literature search of the PubMed, Cochrane Library, HuGE and Google Scholar databases was performed by two authors independently for papers published before December 5, 2019 on the association between genetic variants in LTF and the risk of dental caries.

Baseline demographic, clinical, and cognitive characteristics of the Alzheimer's Prevention Initiative (API) Autosomal-Dominant Alzheimer's Disease Colombia Trial.

Introduction: The API AutosomalDominant AD (ADAD) Colombia Trial is a placebo-controlled clinical trial of crenezumab in 252 cognitively unimpaired 30 to 60-year-old Presenilin 1 (PSEN1) E280A kindred members, including mutation carriers randomized to active treatment or placebo and non-carriers who receive placebo.

Methods: Of the 252 enrolled, we present data on a total of 242 mutation carriers and non-carriers matched by age range, excluding data on 10 participants to protect participant confidentiality, genetic status, and trial integrity.

Results: We summarize demographic, clinical, cognitive, and behavioral data from 167 mutation carriers and 75 non-carriers, 30 to 53 years of age.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with activating EGFR mutations initially respond to first-generation EGFR inhibitors; however, the efficacy of these drugs is limited by acquired resistance driven by the EGFR mutation. The discovery of third-generation EGFR inhibitors overcoming EGFR and their new resistance mechanisms have attracted much attention.

Methods: We examined the antitumor activities and potential resistance mechanism of a novel EGFR third-generation inhibitor in vitro and in vivo using ELISA, SRB assay, immunoblotting, flow cytometric analysis, kinase array, qRT-PCR and tumor xenograft models.

A total of 111 topsoil samples were collected from four park playgrounds in Xi'an, and the X-ray fluorescence (XRF) instrument was used to measure the concentrations of heavy metals including chromium(Cr), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), and cobalt (Co), respectively.

The aim of this study was to explore foreign teachers' experience of cultural and life adaptation in China, including the difficulties, emotional stress, and challenges they confronted, as well as the useful coping strategies and resources that facilitated their cultural adaptation. Ten foreign professors who taught in China were recruited from three Chinese universities. Semi-structured interviews on the participants' experience of cross-cultural adaptation in China were conducted.

Background And Aims: Reverse J- or U-shaped associations between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) concentrations and cardiovascular outcomes have been reported, which need clarifications in older adults. Physical activity, correlating with both serum 25[OH]D concentration and cardiovascular health, may have an effect on the dose-relationships.

Methods And Results: At baseline, 2790 participants aged 65 years and over, free of vitamin D supplementation use, had assays for serum 25[OH]D concentrations and health related characteristics and measurements, were followed up for cardiovascular events and death by up to 7 and 15 years, respectively.
