Background: Rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE) is a leading cause of severe diarrhea in children under-five worldwide, with the majority of mortality in lower -income countries. This study aimed to provide baseline information on epidemiology of rotavirus and circulating strains before rotavirus vaccine introduction in Myanmar.
Methods: Hospital-based, prospective surveillance was conducted from May 2018 to January 2020 at four sentinel sites; two hospitals in Lower Myanmar, one hospital each in Middle Myanmar and East Myanmar.
Introduction: Under five mortality rates (UFMR) remain high for children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in the developing world. Education for practitioners in these environments is a key factor to improve outcomes that will address United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 10 (good health and well being and reduced inequalities). In order to appropriately contextualize a curriculum using simulation, it is necessary to first conduct a needs assessment of the target learner population.

The purpose of this analysis is to report from the sentinel surveillance system for rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE), which collects information on the epidemiology and circulating genotypes to assess the disease burden and support vaccine introduction in Myanmar.
Methods: Prospective, active surveillance for RVGE-associated hospitalizations was conducted during 2009 -2014 at Yangon Children's Hospital.
