Background: Non-invasive temporal artery thermometers (TATs) and non-contact infrared thermometers (NCITs) are increasingly used in community settings to measure body temperature. Existing research predominantly focuses on pediatric populations, yet the accuracy and precision of TATs and NCITs for fever screening across age groups remain unclear. This study aims to assess age-related differences in the diagnostic accuracy of TATs and NCITs for fever detection.

Infant massage enhances the growth and development of premature infants and promotes parent-child bonding. However, its effects on parental stress and parent-child attachment in premature infants, as well as gender differences thereof, remain unclear. In this randomized controlled trial, we used a repeated-measures design and included 61 premature infants (mean gestational age: 35.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the impact of sleep quality and depression on pregnant women’s transition to motherhood, highlighting their connection to negative outcomes for mothers and babies.
  • The research involved 190 pregnant women in Taiwan, tracking their sleep and depressive symptoms from mid-pregnancy to three months postpartum, identifying three sleep and depression patterns.
  • Key findings indicated that poor sleep and high depression levels correlate strongly, with fatigue and lack of social support being significant predictors for worsening conditions, underscoring the need for early assessments and tailored interventions for at-risk women.

This study aimed to compare the diagnostic values of SARC-F (strength, assistance with walking, rising from a chair, climbing stairs, and falls), SARC-Calf (SARC-F combined with calf circumference), CC (calf circumference), and the Yubi-wakka (finger-ring) test for screening for sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults. The Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 criteria were used as a standard reference. A total of 209 participants were enrolled, and 40.

Objectives: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, nursing aides (NAs) experienced greater work stress than they do typically because they worked in highly contagious environments. This may have influenced their work morale and willingness to work, which can reduce patient satisfaction, influence their physical and mental health, and even endanger patient safety or cause medical system collapse.

Design: A cross-sectional survey with a structured self-report questionnaire was conducted.

Purpose: This retrospective cohort study was conducted to determine the glaucoma risk associated with metabolic disease (MetD) using insurance claims data of Taiwan.

Methods: From the database, we identified patients with newly diagnosed hypertension, diabetes and/or hyperlipidemia from the years 2000 to 2002 as the MetD cohort (N = 42,036) and an age-gender-diagnosis-date matched control cohort without MetD with a two-fold sample size than that of the MetD cohort. Both cohorts were followed until the development of glaucoma, death, or withdrawal, until 31 December 2013.

No study has ever investigated how ambient temperature and PM mediate rotavirus infection (RvI) in children. We used insurance claims data from Taiwan in 2006-2012 to evaluate the RvI characteristics in children aged ≤ 9. The RvI incidence rates were higher in colder months, reaching the highest in March (117.

This study investigated the medical care costs of stroke type between age-matched cohorts with and without dysmenorrhea using the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD). We collected all 66,048 women with dysmenorrhea and 66,048 women without dysmenorrhea whose age (15-44-year-old) and index year (from 1997 to 2013) were matched for comparison. We assessed the incidence and compared the risk of stroke and stroke subtype in two cohorts.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study found that Caesarean delivery and preterm birth rates were substantially higher among women with HDP and those with both HDP and GDM, alongside increased issues like jaundice and small gestational age (SGA).
  • * The presence of preeclampsia or eclampsia further elevates these risks, highlighting the need for specialized prenatal care for affected women.

Objectives: Our objectives are to examine whether patients with fibromyalgia (FM) present an increased risk of hearing loss (HL) compared with those without FM and to explore the relationship between comorbidities/drugs and development of HL in patients with FM. Furthermore, we investigated the incidence rate of different types of HL and the joint effects for HL with FM and comorbidities.

Methods: This population-based retrospective cohort study included patients with new-onset FM from 2000 to 2002 (the FM group) and age- and sex-matched randomized patients without FM (the non-FM group) from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database.

Background: Twin infants are likely at great risk for ROP, but studies reported conflicting findings and population studies examining the risk of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in twins is limited. We aimed to evaluate the ROP risk in the cohort of one of twins, comparing to singletons.

Material And Methods: Using insurance claims data of a half of children in Taiwan ages 18 and less, we established a twin cohort (N = 27830) born in 1998-2009 and a randomly selected singleton cohort (N = 111080) frequency matched by sex, birth year, residential area and parental occupation and followed up to 2012 years.

This study used insurance claims data to evaluate obstetric outcomes in pregnant women with and without depression because population study for Asian women on the issue is limited. We identified 5,064 women with depression at pregnancy in 2005-2013, and 20,024 pregnant women without depression, frequency matched by age, pregnant year and parity. Obstetric events during pregnancy and deliveries were evaluated.

Background: Most pregnant women tend to reduce physical activities during pregnancy because they are uncertain of the amount of moderate-level physical activity they should do. As the influence of physical activity during the third trimester remains unclear, it is important to clarify the pregnancy outcomes of physical activity during pregnancy and weight management among Taiwanese women.

Purpose: To examine the potential association between physical activity during the third trimester of pregnancy and the birth weight or delivery mode of the baby in order to see whether weight gain during pregnancy affects birth weight and delivery mode and to estimate the associations between pre-pregnancy body mass index and birth weight.

Background: Pain, anxiety, and fatigue are known to significantly influence labor; however, the interacting relationships among the three symptoms have not been empirically shown.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the interrelationships among intrapartum pain, anxiety, and fatigue relative to the mode of delivery, with or without epidural analgesia (EDA).

Methods: A prospective, repeated measures design was adopted, and women with uncomplicated pregnancies at term (N = 186) were enrolled.
