Introduction: The primary aim of this randomized controlled trial was to assess if a head-mounted display (HMD) providing telemedicine support improves performance of a two-incision lower leg fasciotomy by a NATO special operations combat medic (combat medic).

Materials And Methods: Thirty-six combat medics were randomized into two groups: One group performed a two-incision lower leg fasciotomy with the assistance of an HMD, while the control group completed the procedure without guidance. A Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine the possible differences in release of compartments and performance scores, as assessed by a supervising medical specialist.

Background: Cardiogenic shock is a rare adverse event of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) administration. Because of its rare entity, little is known about epidemiologic and clinical features of 5-FU-induced cardiogenic shock, and recommendations about specific treatment are missing.

Case Summary: We present a case of cardiogenic shock and ventricular arrhythmia due to 5-FU-induced toxic cardiomyopathy treated with vasopressor and inotropic drugs in combination with intra-aortic balloon pump.

Background: Salvage total laryngectomy (STL) is a preferred treatment for patients with residual, recurrent, and second primary squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx/hypopharynx after (chemo)radiation. To individually estimate postoperative oncological outcomes, we designed and validated prognostic nomograms.

Methods: We used a dataset of 290 patients who underwent STL.

Introduction: During tactical combat casualty care, life- and limb-saving procedures might also be performed by combat medics. This study assesses whether it is feasible to use a head-mounted display (HMD) to provide telemedicine (TM) support from a consulted senior surgeon for combat medics when performing a two-incision lower leg fasciotomy.

Materials And Methods: Nine combat medics were randomized into groups to perform a two-incision lower leg fasciotomy.

Background: The slow channel syndrome is a rare hereditary disorder caused by a dominant gain-of-function variant in one of the subunits of the acetylcholine receptor at the neuromuscular junction. Patients typically experience axial, limb and particularly extensor finger muscle weakness.

Objective: Age at diagnosis is variable and although the long-term prognosis is important for newly diagnosed patients, extensive follow-up studies are rare.

Ants and termites are used as bioindicators in many ecosystems. Little knowledge is available about them in Togo, especially ants. This study aimed to find out how ants and termites could be used to assess the restoration of former agricultural land.

The use of soil and litter arthropods as biological indicators is a way to assess environmental changes, where ant species in particular may serve as important indicators of soil quality. This study aimed at relating the abundance of soil and litter ant species to soil parameters under different tree species, both native and exotic, and varieties of coffee and banana plantations. Variations were found in soil physicochemical parameters.

Optical stimulated luminescence (OSL) combines reusability, sub-mm resolution, and a linear dose response in a single radiation detection technology. Such a combination is currently lacking in radiotherapy dosimetry. But OSL-films have a strong energy dependent response to keV photons due to a relative high effective atomic number (Z ).

This manuscript describes the development and validation of an ultra-fast, efficient, and high throughput analytical method based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) equipped with a photodiode array (PDA) detection system, for the simultaneous analysis of fifteen bioactive metabolites: gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, (-)-catechin, gentisic acid, (-)-epicatechin, syringic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, m-coumaric acid, rutin, trans-resveratrol, myricetin, quercetin, cinnamic acid and kaempferol, in wines. A 50-mm column packed with 1.7-μm particles operating at elevated pressure (UHPLC strategy) was selected to attain ultra-fast analysis and highly efficient separations.

Aims: To identify asymptomatic patients with impaired cerebral perfusion using CT perfusion (CTP) technique during staged carotid stenting (CAS) and cardiac surgery.

Methods And Results: This is a prospective, non-randomised study in 16 neurologically asymptomatic patients designed to analyse cerebral perfusion using CTP before and after CAS. Mean transit time (MTT) was significant lower and cerebral blood flow (CBF) was significantly higher in the non-target hemisphere compared to the target hemisphere before treatment (4.

Antimicrobial agents are the most heavily used pharmaceuticals in intensive husbandry. Their usual discharge pathway is application to agricultural land as constituents of animal manure, which is used as fertilizer. Many of these compounds undergo pH-dependent speciation and, therefore, might occur as charged species in the soil environment.
