Background: Community service-learning activities (CSL) have been integrated into medical schools for several years. However, little data exists to understand the impact of this type of activity on students and communities. The purpose of this research was to explore the effect of a mandatory community-based training activity offered to medical students.

Association of Gut Microbiome and Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 in Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Rapid Literature Review.

Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) are characterized by dysregulated immune responses and chronic tissue inflammation. In the setting of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) and gut microorganisms have been proved to interplay, potentially influenced by dietary factors. This rapid review aimed to study the DPP4-gut microbiome link in IBD.

Prediction of heatwave related mortality magnitude, duration and frequency with climate variability and climate change information.

Unlabelled: Given the link between climatic factors on one hand, such as climate change and low frequency climate oscillation indices, and the occurrence and magnitude of heat waves on the other hand, and given the impact of heat waves on mortality, these climatic factors could provide some predictive skill for mortality. We propose a new model, the Mortality-Duration-Frequency (MDF) relationship, to relate the intensity of an extreme summer mortality event to its duration and frequency. The MDF model takes into account the non-stationarities observed in the mortality data through covariates by integrating information concerning climate change through the time trend and climate variability through climate oscillation indices.

Increased risk of hospitalization among children who were HIV-exposed and uninfected compared to population controls.

Objectives: While studies have demonstrated increased morbidity and mortality risk in infancy among children who are HIV-exposed and uninfected (CHEU), longitudinal data are limited. The objective of this study was to assess long-term risk of hospitalization among CHEU compared to children who are HIV-unexposed and uninfected (CHUU), and determine risk factors for hospitalization among CHEU.

Design: A longitudinal cohort study (1988-2015) linking the Centre maternel et infantile sur le SIDA cohort (Montreal, Quebec) to administrative data from the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ), a universal health insurance provider in the province of Quebec.

Cutaneous diphtheria from 2018 to 2022: an observational, retrospective study of epidemiological, microbiological, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics in metropolitan France.

The incidence of diphtheria has been rising over the past decade, particularly in its cutaneous form. A clinical review of the case series was therefore required. We reviewed the epidemiological, clinical, microbiological and therapeutic data of cutaneous diphtheria cases, in adult patients living in metropolitan France with a skin sample positive for corynebacteria of the complex between 2018 and 2022.

Impact of education on knowledge, attitudes, and practices for gestational toxoplasmosis.

Background: Toxoplasmosis is potentially avoidable, treatable, and curable by simple and direct preventive measures. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) assessments concerning gestational toxoplasmosis were evaluated in a cohort of pregnant women from Armenia-Quindío (Colombia, South America).

Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive KAP-type study was performed with informed consent between October 2021 and March 2022.

New taxonomic insights for Brazilian Reitter (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), including three new species and their mitochondrial genomes.

Here we present a taxonomic treatment for the Brazilian species of (Reitter, 1882), including the description of three new species ( Asenjo & Valois , Asenjo & Valois and Asenjo & Valois ) from the Quadrilátero Ferrífero (Minas Gerais, Brazil). In addition, we designated lectotypes for the Brazilian species of species-group 2, (Raffray, 1898), (Reitter, 1888), (Reitter, 1888), (Raffray, 1898), and (Schaufuss, 1887), besides recognizing the holotype for (Reitter, 1882), (Raffray, 1898), and (Raffray, 1898). The mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of the three new species are presented, for which we present the phylogenetic placement among Staphylinidae with previously published data.

Methods: this is a bibliometric study, carried out in six databases, based on the Methodi Ordinatio application, arranged in nine stages. To represent the findings, the VOSviewer® software was used.

Risk factors for prevalent and incident hypertension in rheumatoid arthritis: data from the Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort.

Objective: Hypertension (HTN) is a common comorbidity in RA. This study aimed to explore the prevalence and incidence of HTN and baseline factors associated with incident HTN in early RA (ERA).

Methods: Data were from the Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort (CATCH), an inception cohort of ERA patients having <1 year of disease duration.

The objective of this study was to describe the humoral immune response to COVID-19 in child vs. adult household contacts, and to identify predictors of the response over time.

Implementation of an integrated primary care prevention and management program for chronic low back pain (LBP): patient-reported outcomes and predictors of pain interference after six months.

Background: Integrated primary care programs for patients living with chronic pain which are accessible, interdisciplinary, and patient-centered are needed for preventing chronicity and improving outcomes. Evaluation of the implementation and impact of such programs supports further development of primary care chronic pain management. This study examined patient-reported outcomes among individuals with low back pain (LBP) receiving care in a novel interdisciplinary primary care program.

Having More Tender Than Swollen Joints Is Associated With Worse Patient-Reported Outcomes in Patients With Early RA.

Background/objective: In patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), high tender-swollen joint differences (TSJDs) have been associated with worse outcomes. A better understanding of the phenotype and impact of high TSJD on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in early RA may lead to earlier personalized treatment targeting domains that are important to patients today. Our objectives were to evaluate the impact of TSJD on updated PROs in patients with early RA over 1 year and to determine differences in associations by joint size.

COBRAPed cohort: Do sensitization patterns differentiate children with severe asthma from those with a milder disease?

Background: It is unclear whether sensitization patterns differentiate children with severe recurrent wheeze (SRW)/severe asthma (SA) from those with non-severe recurrent wheeze (NSRW)/non-severe asthma (NSA). Our objective was to determine whether sensitization patterns can discriminate between children from the French COBRAPed cohort with NSRW/NSA and those with SRW/SA.

Methods: IgE to 112 components (c-sIgE) (ImmunoCAP® ISAC) were analyzed in 125 preschools (3-6 years) and 170 school-age children (7-12 years).

Acupuncture in cancer care: recommendations for safe practice (peer-reviewed expert opinion).

Background: Up-to-date recommendations for the safe practice of acupuncture in integrative oncology are overdue with new cancer treatments and an increase in survivors with late effects of disease; 17 years have elapsed since Filshie and Hester's 2006 guidelines. During 2022/2023 an expert panel assembled to produce updated recommendations aiming to facilitate safe and appropriate care by acupuncturists working with people with cancer.

Methods: A core development team comprising three integrative oncology professionals comprehensively updated pre-existing unpublished recommendations.

Objective: Patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may present with more tender than swollen joints, which can persist. Elevated tender-swollen joint difference (TSJD) is often challenging, because there may be multiple causes and it may contribute to overestimating disease activity. Little is known about the phenotype and impact of TSJDs on patient function.

Managing Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease: Should the Target Be Endoscopy, Histology, or Both?

In inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), mucosal healing is the primary long-term treatment goal, encompassing both endoscopic and histological outcomes. This paper aims to overview the ability of new treatment options to promote endoscopic and histological healing and to discuss the prognostic significance of endoscopic and histological outcomes. The analysis included randomized-controlled trials (published since 2020) focused on the impact of pharmacological interventions on endoscopic and histological remission in IBD.

ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis following COVID-19 vaccination: a case report and literature review.

With the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination, it has been possible to observe the potential side effects of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, with the most common ones being fever, myalgia, headache, and fatigue. However, an association has been observed between new and recurrent kidney injuries, mainly glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis associated with ANCA, with the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Sinovac, and AstraZeneca vaccines, although the relationship between them is not clear. We report a case of ANCA-related vasculitis and lupus glomerulonephritis after the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Assessment of waste workers occupational risk to microbial agents and cytotoxic effects of mixed contaminants present in the air of waste truck cabin and ventilation filters.

Workers in the waste-processing industry are potentially exposed to high concentrations of biological contaminants, leading to respiratory and digestive problems and skin irritations. However, few data on the exposure of waste collection truck (WCT) drivers are available. The goal was to document the microbial risk of the waste collection truck (WCT) workers while in the vehicle cab.

Hospitalizations for congenital syphilis in children under one year old in the state of Pará, Brazilian Amazon: ecological study.

Background: The high incidence of congenital syphilis shows flaws in the resolution of primary health care, being a predictor of greater use of hospital services, whose regional differences in access to health actions and services may be reflected in health inequalities.

Objective: to investigate hospitalizations due to congenital syphilis in children under one year of age, in the state of Pará, Brazilian Amazon.

Methods: an ecological study was carried out, using hospitalization, lethality and mortality rates related to congenital syphilis in children under one year of age.

Variations in CD4 counts during pregnancy in women living with HIV.

Objective: Our objective was to determine the frequency at which CD4 counts drop below 200 cells/mm during pregnancy in women living with HIV and to identify factors associated with this.

Methods: Data from 2005 to 2020 from two prospective Canadian cohorts of pregnant women living with HIV were extracted. As per national guidelines, women received antiretroviral therapy and CD4 counts were monitored once per trimester and at delivery.

Impact of dupilumab on patch test results and allergic contact dermatitis: A prospective multicenter study.

Background: Limited and conflicting data have been reported on the impact of dupilumab (DUPI) on patch test (PT) results and its efficacy against allergic contact dermatitis (ACD).

Objective: This study was undertaken to analyze PT reactivities and relevance during treatment with DUPI to determine whether they could detect ACD in patients with uncontrolled or worsened atopic dermatitis (AD) who were receiving this agent.

Methods: This prospective, multicenter study examined 76 DUPI-treated patients who had undergone PTs.
