Introduction: The role of afatinib in the first-line treatment of EGFR-mutant advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients has been proven through clinical trials and real-world studies. However, additional data on the effectiveness of afatinib in patients with brain metastases are lacking.

Methods: EGFR-mutant NSCLC patients with brain metastases were retrospectively reviewed across nine cancer centers in Vietnam from April 1, 2018 to June 1, 2022.

  • Developing safe and effective medical interventions with untethered milli- and microrobots requires real-time tracking and localization since traditional imaging systems struggle with the non-transparency of human tissues.
  • This study introduces a virtual reality environment that features a digital twin of the operational workspace and a robot avatar, allowing for real-time synchronization and position tracking of the robot with minimal delay.
  • The approach demonstrates improved safety through enhanced guidance and the potential to integrate additional real-time data, improving robot control by using information like instantaneous velocity and physiological data from the patient.

  • In Vietnam, public sector clinics currently dominate methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) services for drug users, but private sector involvement is necessary for the future sustainability of these programs due to anticipated declines in foreign aid.
  • A study involving 395 participants from one private and two public clinics assessed patient satisfaction, revealing that while satisfaction was generally high, patients wanted more comprehensive care, particularly in private facilities.
  • The findings suggest that improving administrative procedures and the skill level of health workers in private clinics, as well as integrating MMT with broader healthcare services, is essential for enhancing patient care and program effectiveness.

Memory B cells (mBCs) are characterized by their long-term stability, fast reactivation, and capability to rapidly differentiate into antibody-secreting cells (ASCs). However, the role of T cells in the differentiation of mBCs, in contrast to naive B cells, remains to be delineated. We study the role of T cells in mBC responses, using CD40L stimulation and autologous T-B co-cultures.

Purpose: Interdisciplinary scientific communities have shown large interest to achieve a mechanistic description of radiation-induced biological damage, aiming to predict biological results produced by different radiation quality exposures. Monte Carlo track-structure simulations are suitable and reliable for the study of early DNA damage induction used as input for assessing DNA damage. This study presents the most recent improvements of a Geant4-DNA simulation tool named "dsbandrepair".

  • Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) is a new 3D imaging technique that maps magnetic nanoparticles, but scaling it for human use is difficult due to limitations in the strength of generated magnetic fields.
  • Recent advancements in MPI have led to the development of a human-scale system using superconductors, achieving a magnetic field gradient of 2.5 T/m/μ within a 200 mm bore diameter.
  • This new system, while maintaining similar resolution to earlier animal-scale MPIs, represents a significant advancement toward making MPI viable for clinical applications.

Background: Afatinib is indicated for advanced-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) and uncommon mutations. However, real-world studies on this topic are limited. This study aimed to evaluate afatinib as first-line therapy for locally advanced and metastatic NSCLC with uncommon EGFR mutations.

Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) is a well-established surgical technique for treating hydrocephalus. Many providers have transitioned to utilizing the specialized Neuroballoon for the stoma dilation in ETV; however, these devices are intermittently unavailable during supply chain shortages. We present the experience of employing cardiac angioplasty and neurovascular balloons as substitutes for the Neuroballoon in 3 patients.

Purpose: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the mainstay approach for prostate cancer (PCa) management. However, the most commonly used ADT modality, gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists, has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Methods: The PCa Cardiovascular (PCCV) Expert Network, consisting of multinational urologists, cardiologists and oncologists with expertise in managing PCa, convened to discuss challenges to routine cardiovascular risk assessment in PCa management, as well as how to mitigate such risks in the current treatment landscape.

The reaction between 2-pyridyl-selenenyl chloride and isobutyro-nitrile results in the formation of the corresponding cationic pyridinium-fused 1,2,4-seleno-diazole, namely, 3-(propan-2-yl)-1,2,4-[1,2,4]selena-diazolo[4,5-a]pyridin-4-ylium chloride, CHNSe·Cl, in high yield (89%). The structure of the compound, established by means of single-crystal X-ray analysis at 100 K, has monoclinic (2/) symmetry and revealed the presence of bifurcated chalcogen-hydrogen bonding Se⋯Cl⋯H-Cl, and these non-covalent contacts were analysed by DFT calculations followed by a topological analysis of the electron-density distribution (ωB97XD/6-311++G** level of theory).

Monitoring the distribution of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) in the vascular system is an important task for the advancement of precision therapeutics and drug delivery. Despite active targeting using active motilities, it is required to visualize the position and concentration of carriers that reach the target, to promote the development of this technology. In this work, a feasibility study is presented on a tomographic scanner that allows monitoring of the injected carriers quantitatively in a relatively short interval.

Background: The B-type rafkinase (BRAF) V600E gene mutation plays an important role in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and prognosis of thyroid carcinoma. This study was conducted to investigate the rate of the BRAF V600E mutation, the relationships between the BRAF V600E gene mutation and some immunohistochemical markers, and recurrence rate in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer.

Method: The study was conducted by a descriptive and longitudinal follow-up method on 102 thyroid carcinoma patients at 103 Military Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam.

Gender inequality and women's empowerment are two closely related issues. While the gender inequality index has been assessed by different studies, that of women's empowerment remained limited. In the present work, we attempted to evaluate the women's empowerment index by comparing it with the male partner's empowerment index in the same household.

  • Population-adjusted indirect comparisons (PAICs) are gaining attention in health technology assessments to address differences in target populations among studies.
  • A systematic review evaluated 106 studies that implemented PAICs from various databases, highlighting that 96.9% were linked to pharmaceutical companies and that only 37.0% thoroughly assessed the heterogeneity among studies.
  • The findings indicate that the quality and reporting of PAICs are inconsistent and lack standardization, underscoring the need for clearer guidelines to improve future analyses.

Cryopreservation allows strains to be stored, eliminating genetic drift and maintenance costs. Existing cryopreservation methods for the economically-important entomopathogenic nematode involve multiple incubation and filtration steps to precondition the animals. The standard protocol for freezing the model organism in buffer is simpler, and a recent dry-freezing protocol allows stocks to survive multiple freeze-thaws, a possibility during a power failure.

Background And Objective: Brain tumor is a global health concern at the moment. Thus far, the only treatments available are radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which have several drawbacks such as low survival rates and low treatment efficacy due to obstruction of the blood-brain barrier. Magnetic hyperthermia (MH) using magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) is a promising non-invasive approach that has the potential for tumor treatment in deep tissues.

The mol-ecular and crystal structures of the title compound, [CuI(CHN)], were examined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and Hirshfeld surface analysis. The Cu atom is coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry by two N atoms from the 2,2'-bi-quinoline ligands and the two μ-bridging iodide ligands. The mol-ecules are in contact π-π-stacking inter-actions.
