The Li/Mn ordered structure of lithium-rich (LR) cathodes leads to the heterogeneous LiMnO and LiTMO components, readily triggering structural degeneration and performance degradation in long-term cycling. However, the lack of guiding principles for promoting cation disorder within the transition metal (TM) layers has posed a persistent challenge in designing homogeneous layered LR cathodes. Herein, the (Li + Mn) content in the TM layer as a criterion for the design of cation-disordered layered LR cathodes is proposed.

Neural precursor cell expressed developmentally downregulated 4 (NEDD4), an E3 ubiquitin ligase, is commonly upregulated in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and functions as an oncogenic factor in the progression of HCC, but the molecular mechanism needs be further explored. In this study, we found that NEDD4 could facilitate the proliferation of HCC cells, which was associated with regulating the ERK signaling. Further investigation showed that protocadherin 17 (PCDH17) was a potential substrate of NEDD4, and restoration of PCDH17 could block the facilitation of ERK signaling and HCC cells proliferation induced by NEDD4 overexpression.

Article Synopsis
  • The study reveals that the classical swine fever virus (CSFV) interferes with the host's immune response by destabilizing a protein called IRF3 and manipulating the levels of another protein, HMGB1.
  • It was found that while CSFV infection decreases HMGB1 at the protein level, this protein plays a crucial role in fighting the virus when located in the nucleus, as it enhances immune responses.
  • The virus's protein N increases the acetylation of HMGB1, causing it to move to the cytoplasm where it is degraded, thereby helping CSFV evade the host's antiviral defenses.

Of the flaviviruses, only CSFV and bovine viral diarrhea virus express N as the non-structural protein which is not essential for viral replication but functions to dampen host innate immunity. We have deciphered a novel mechanism with which CSFV uses to evade the host antiviral immunity by the N-terminal domain of its N to facilitate proteasomal degradation of Sp1 with subsequent reduction of HDAC1 and ISG15 expression. This is distinct from earlier findings involving N-mediated IRF3 degradation via the C-terminal domain.

The effect of laser shock peening (LSP) on the microhardness and tensile properties of laser cladding (LC) 30CrMnSiNi2A high-strength steel was studied. After LSP, the microhardness of the cladding zone reached approximately 800 HV, which was 25% higher than that of the substrate, while the cladding zone without LSP had an approximately 18% increase in its microhardness. Two strengthening processes were designed: groove LSP + LC + surface LSP versus LC + surface LSP.

There exists an obvious gap in our knowledge of the nuclear DNA amount of bryophytes, not only in terms of the low number of species represented, but also in systematic and geographic representation. In order to increase our knowledge of nuclear DNA amounts and variation patterns in bryophytes, and their potential phylogenetic significances and influences on phenotypes, we used flow cytometry to determine the DNA 1C values of 209 bryophyte accessions, which belong to 145 mosses and 18 liverworts collected from China, by using as a standard. We quantified the differences in DNA 1C values among different orders and families and constructed a phylogenetic tree of 112 mosses with four gene sequences (5, L, L-F, and 18S-ITS1-5.

One negative emotional state from morphine protracted abstinence is anxiety which can drive craving and relapse risk in opioid addicts. Although the orexinergic system has been reported to be important in mediating emotion processing and addiction, the role of orexinergic system in anxiety from drug protracted abstinence remains elusive. In this study, by using behavioral test, western blot, electrophysiology and virus-mediated regulation of orexin receptor 1 (OX1R), we found that: (1) Intraperitoneal and intra-VTA administration of a selective OX1R antagonist SB334867 alleviated anxiety-like behaviors in open field test (OFT) but not in elevated plus maze test (EPM) in morphine protracted abstinent male mice.
