Article Synopsis
  • Nitrogenous fertilizers are becoming less effective in South Asia due to increasing losses, prompting the need for alternative solutions like biochar and slow-releasing nitrogen fertilizers (SRNF).
  • A field experiment conducted in an arid environment analyzed the impact of various nitrogen sources and application rates on cotton growth and yield, showing that bacterial-coated urea significantly improved photosynthesis and yield metrics compared to traditional urea.
  • Findings suggest that using bacterial-coated urea at either full (160 kg ha) or reduced (120 kg ha) nitrogen rates can enhance seed cotton yield and nitrogen use efficiency, making it a recommended practice for farmers in Punjab's arid climate.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles with microcoils in angiembolisation of non variceal acute gastrointestinal haemorrhage.

Methods: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study of patients who underwent transcatheter angioembolization from January, 1995 to December, 2013 at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi. Patients were divided into two groups on basis of use of either microcoils or PVA particles and compared in terms of technical success, clinical success, re-bleeding and ischemic complication rates.

The present study describes the imaging findings in a patient with dural arteriovenous fistula (AVR) and arteriovenous malformation (AVM) with bilateral subcortical and basal ganglia calcification. A 29 year old male patient presented with chief complaint of recent onset of generalized tonic clonic seizures and mild disorientation. The imaging studies on MCT demonstrated diffuse, symmetric calcification in the bilateral basal ganglia and subcortical white matter.

Purpose: To determine the accuracy of 64-slice multidetector computed tomography scans in detecting the point of transition of small bowel obstruction by using surgical findings as the gold standard.

Materials And Methods: Cross-sectional study of 59 patients with SBO who underwent 64-slice MDCT scans of the abdomen followed by surgery from 1 June 2008 to 31 January 2010 at a tertiary care center. Point of transition between distended and collapsed small bowel loops were precisely determined on 64-slice MDCT and subsequently correlated with surgical findings.
