Diabetic wound healing is hampered due to oxidative stress, exacerbated inflammation, and impaired angiogenesis in the wounds. A pH-sensitive antioxidant hydrogel based on carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), oligoprocyanidins (OPC), and oxide dextran (Oxd) is prepared to accelerate diabetic wound healing. Glycogen is a glucose-storage polysaccharide molecule present in animals, fungi and bacteria. The enzyme glycogenin can self-glycosylate, forming an oligosaccharide chain that primes glycogen synthesis. This priming role of glycogenin was first believed to be essential for glycogen synthesis, but glycogen was then found in the skeletal muscle, heart, liver and brain of glycogenin-knockout mice (Gyg KO), thereby showing that glycogen can be synthesized without glycogenin.

This study investigated the release mechanism and digestive characteristics of soy protein isolate (SPI)-loaded vitamin B during digestion. According to the molecular docking results, vitamin B interacted with the SPI through a hydrophobic pocket on the SPI surface. In this study, segmented hyperbranched copolymers with degradable and chain extendable cross-linker branch points were synthesized via green light-activated photoiniferter copolymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) and a trithiocarbonate-derived dimethacrylate. A series of segmented hyperbranched copolymers with different degrees of branching were synthesized by changing the feed ratio of PEGMA to cross-linker to chain transfer agent. The segmented hyperbranched copolymers could be degraded into linear polymer chains by removing the trithocarbonate groups, which provides fundamental insights into the growth of primary chains during photoiniferter copolymerization.

Via conductance measurements of thousands of single-molecule junctions, we report that the π-π coupling between neighboring aromatic molecules can be manipulated by laser illumination. We reveal that this optical manipulation originates from the optical plasmonic gradient force generated inside the nanogaps, in which the gapped antenna electrodes act as optical tweezers pushing the neighboring molecules closer together. These findings offer a nondestructive approach to regulate the interaction of the molecules, deepening the understanding of the mechanism of π-π interaction, and open an avenue to manipulate the relative position of extremely small objects down to the scale of single molecules.

Excessive heavy metals (HMs) exposure in surface soils may cause non-negligible health risks to human beings; however, the potential health risk assessment of HMs in Yellow River Delta wetland (YRDW) soils has rarely been evaluated. In this study, we sampled surface wetland soils from ten typical functional areas in YRDW, assessed the HMs pollution status, evaluated their potential health risks, stimulated their probabilistic distributions of health risks and analyzed their potential source apportionment using Positive matrix factorization and Monte Carlo simulation. Enrichment factor (EF) and geo-accumulation index (I) indicated significant anthropogenic impacts, particularly in oil-contaminated sites, while Sediment Quality Guidelines (SQGs) comparison results suggested potential ecological risks, especially for As and Ni, which were occasionally above threshold effect levels.

This research investigates the interplay between Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Apelin (APLN) in regulating autophagy, with implications for placental cell senescence and apoptosis in pre-eclampsia (PE). We manipulated APLN expression using sgRNA to study its effects on ROS levels and subsequent cellular responses.
