Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disease affecting a significant portion of the global population. Despite advancements in pharmacological treatments, the management of RA remains complex, particularly in regard to comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. Physiotherapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) are non-pharmacological approaches that play a critical role in the management of RA.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix is an important traditional Chinese medicine used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Our previous studies have shown that Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix can inhibit vascular intimal hyperplasia and improve the blood vessel wall's ECM deposition, among which six main active components can be absorbed into the blood, suggesting that these components may be the main pharmacodynamic substances of Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix against vascular intimal hyperplasia.

Aim Of The Study: A mouse model of atherosclerosis was used to study the relationship between the anti-intimal hyperplasia effect of Astragali Radix-Angelicae Sinensis Radix and the inhibition of VAF activation and ECM synthesis.

The use of natural polysaccharides from traditional Chinese medicine as carrier materials has great potentiality in drug delivery. Nootkatone (NKT) demonstrated good pharmacological activity in treating kidney injury, but its solubility and bioavailability are not very good which may affect the effectiveness of its therapeutic effect. Alpinia oxyphylla fructus polysaccharide (AOP), as a plant polysaccharide, has multiple pharmacological activities and may help to provide synergy for NKT.

The role of ER stress in the pathogenesis of diabetic kidney diseases (DKD) remains unclear. We employed bioinformatics to identify the UPR pathway activation, inflammation, and programmed cell death patterns in diabetic tubules. Levels of IRE1α/sXBP1 signaling, NLRP3 inflammasome activity and pyroptosis in tubular cells under high glucose conditions were measured.

Eutrophication of lake and reservoir caused by cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs) become a global ecological problem because of massive destruction of ecosystems, which have attracted attentions widely. In addition to the production of cyanotoxins by certain bloom-forming species, there may also be direct or indirect interactions between cyanobacteria blooms and various pollutants in lakes or reservoirs. Based on bibliometrics, 19110 papers in Web of Science (WOS) and 2998 papers in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) on eutrophication and cyanobacterial blooms in lakes and reservoirs were analyzed, which showed that research on this topic has been ongoing for nearly 80 years with a gradual increase in its popularity.

Understanding the comprehensive impacts of environmental factors on soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil inorganic carbon (SIC) in different land use types is of great significance for sustainable soil management. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and structural equation modelling were applied to reveal the driving mechanism of SOC, SIC and the ratio between SOC to SIC (SOC/SIC) in three major land use types (forest, grassland and farmland) in a forest-grassland ecotone (FGE) of Inner Mongolia, Northeast China. Mean annual temperature (MAT), mean annual temperature (MAP) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) were selected by LASSO as the three most important environmental factors affecting SOC, SIC and SOC/SIC in all land use types.

Co-morbid Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology (amyloid-beta and tau) is commonly observed in Lewy body dementia (LBD), and this may affect clinical outcomes. A systematic review of the effect of AD co-pathology on longitudinal clinical outcomes in LBD was conducted. A search of MEDLINE and EMBASE (October 2024) yielded n = 3558 records that were screened by two independent reviewers.

Magneto-responsiveness in living organisms, exemplified by migratory birds navigating vast distances, offers inspiration for soft robots and human-computer interfaces. However, achieving both high magneto-responsiveness and resilient mechanical properties in synthetic materials has been challenging. Here, we develop magneto-iono-elastomers (MINEs), combining exceptional magnetization [2.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO)-based advanced oxidation technology has emerged as a cost-effective and green solution for tackling soil pollution. Given the highly heterogeneous nature of soil, the effectiveness of HO remediation is significantly influenced by its diffusion distance in soils. However, the dynamics of HO diffusion and its effective range remain largely unexplored, primarily due to the lack of analytical methods for mapping HO in soils.

Gut microbiome is crucial for lipid metabolism in humans and animals. However, how specific gut microbiota and their associated metabolites impact fat deposition remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrated that the colonic microbiome of lean and obese pigs differentially contributes to fat deposition, as evidenced by colonic microbiota transplantation experiments.

Background: In endemic COVID-19, immunocompromised children are vulnerable until vaccinated but the optimal primary vaccination regime and need for booster doses remains uncertain.

Methods: We recruited 19 immunocompromised children (post-solid organ transplantation, have autoimmune disease or were on current or recent chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia), and followed them from the start of primary vaccination with BNT162b2 mRNA SARS-CoV-2 until 1-year post-vaccination. We investigated the quality of vaccine immunogenicity, and longevity of hybrid immunity, in comparison to healthy children.

Unlabelled: Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), characterized by alterations in both the type and quantity of bacteria in the small intestine, leads to impaired intestinal digestion and absorption that can cause a range of clinical symptoms. Recent studies have identified significant changes in the composition of the small intestinal microbiota and metabolomic profiles of patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). This study systematically reviewed and synthesized the available data to explore the association between SIBO and MASLD.

This study is aimed at investigating the effects of atorvastatin (ATV) on endothelial cell injury in atherosclerosis (AS) through inhibiting acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4)-mediated ferroptosis. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) to establish an in vitro model of AS. The cell viability, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, apoptosis, and expression levels of apoptotic proteins were assessed.

The research is aimed at exploring the potential of marigold petal tea (MPT), rich in polyphenol contents, against oxidative stress and obesity in a rat model following a high-fat-sugar diet (HFSD). The MPT was prepared through the customary method of decoction and was subjected to analysis for its polyphenol composition using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Two specific doses of MPT, namely, 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight (BW), were chosen for the study-referred to as MPT-250 and MPT-500, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Environmental factors contribute to uncertainty in estimating gross primary productivity (GPP) in current light use efficiency (LUE) models because basic formulas can't capture complex environmental impacts.
  • A new hybrid model called TL-CRF combines the random forest (RF) technique with a two-leaf LUE model to account for various ecological stressors and seasonal variations in canopy structure.
  • This integration enhances the accuracy of GPP estimates by merging strengths from both process-based and data-driven approaches.
