Through research into the molecular and cellular mechanisms that occur during critical periods, recent experimental neurobiological data have brought to light the importance of early childhood. These have demonstrated that childhood and early environmental stimuli play a part not only in our subjective construction, but also in brain development; thus, confirming Freud's intuition regarding the central role of childhood and early experiences of the environment in our psychological development and our subjective outcomes. The economic conceptualization of Freudian metapsychology, based on an energetics model of the psyche's workings, offers remarkable commonalities with some recent discoveries in neuroscience, notably in the field of neuroenergetics. The pattern of cerebral activity at resting state and the identification of a (DMN), a network of areas whose activity is detectable at baseline conditions by neuroimaging techniques, offers a promising field of research in the dialogue between psychoanalysis and neuroscience. Objectives: The present study focuses on a review of scientific literature upon structural and functional abnormalities of the insular cortex found in schizophrenic patients in order to emphasize links between the pathophysiology of this brain region and the symptomatology of schizophrenia.

Methods: From a review based upon journal articles published since 2002 and indexed into the Pubmed data base, we first studied the main findings on the function of the insular cortex and its involvement in the perception and representation of the body states, as it is one of the main neural substrates for the interoception sense. Then, we highlighted various structural abnormalities found in schizophrenic patients in order to study links existing between dysfunctions in the insular cortex and an altered perception of body states and of self-awareness in schizophrenia.

Absolute targeted proteomics typically employs known amounts of synthetic stable isotopically labeled peptides which are mixed with the analyte and analysed by LC-MS to determine the concentration of proteins. In order to obtain more data, we evaluated the use of two different stable isotopes of the same peptide as spike-in for absolute quantification. To broaden and delve into the genomic information of , an important medicinal plant in many Asian countries, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis was performed and a total of 16,638 non-redundant unigenes (≥ 300 bp) with an average length of 755 bp were generated by de novo assembly from 17,580,456 trimmed clear reads. The functional categorization of the identified unigenes by a gene ontology (GO) term resulted in 2305 genes in the cellular component, 5577 in the biological processes, and 8056 in the molecular functions, respectively. The top sub-category in biological processes was the metabolic process with 4374 genes.

Raspberry-shaped redox-responsive capsules for storing corrosion inhibitors are introduced, targeted to solve the drawbacks of conducting-polymer-based coating systems for corrosion protection. These capsules synthesized via the miniemulsion technique have a remarkable release property upon reduction (onset of corrosion) and cease release upon reoxidation (passivation of the defect).
