The neurobiological basis of divergent thinking: Insight from gene co-expression network-based analysis.

Although many efforts have been made to explore the genetic basis of divergent thinking (DT), there is still a gap in the understanding of how these findings relate to the neurobiology of DT. In a combined sample of 1,682 Chinese participants, by integrating GWAS with previously identified brain-specific gene co-expression network modules, this study explored for the first time the functional brain-specific gene co-expression networks underlying DT. The results showed that gene co-expression network modules in anterior cingulate cortex, caudate, amygdala and substantia nigra were enriched with DT association signals.

Avian iris colors exhibit striking interspecific and intraspecific variations that correspond to unique evolutionary and ecological histories. Here, we identified the genetic basis of pearl (white) iris color in domestic pigeons (Columba livia) to explore the largely unknown genetic mechanism underlying the evolution of avian iris coloration.

One-Pot Synthesis of B/P-Codoped Co-Mo Dual-Nanowafer Electrocatalysts for Overall Water Splitting.

Exploring electrocatalysts with satisfactory activity and durability has remained a long-lasting target for electrolyzing water, which is particularly significant for sustainable hydrogen fuel production. Here, we report a quaternary B/P-codoped transition metal Co-Mo hybrid as an efficient alternative catalyst for overall water splitting. The Co-Mo-B-P/CF dual nanowafers were deposited on a copper foam by double-pulse electrodeposition, which is favorable for achieving a nanocrystalline structure.

Background: We evaluated the clinical applications of the reconstruction of postoperative defects of the oral cavity using contralateral submental artery flaps.

Methods: A retrospective study of 18 patients with postoperative intraoral cancer defects reconstructed with contralateral submental artery perforator flaps between October 2018 and October 2019 in our department was conducted. The defect area, flap size, and complications were evaluated.

Paternal indifference and neglect in early life and creativity: Exploring the moderating role of TPH1 genotype and offspring gender.

For further understanding the joint contribution of environment, heredity and gender to creativity, the present research examined the prospective impact of paternal indifference & neglect in early life, TPH1 rs623580, offspring gender, and the interaction effects thereof on creativity in five hundred and thirty-nine unrelated healthy Chinese undergraduate students. Paternal indifference & neglect in early life was assessed on the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and creativity on the Runco Creativity Assessment Battery (rCAB). Two primary findings emerged.

Productivity Burden of Occupational Noise-Induced Hearing Loss in Australia: A Life Table Modelling Study.

Occupational noise-induced hearing loss (ONIHL) is one of the most common yet preventable occupational diseases. The aim of this study was to estimate the economic burden of ONIHL in the Australian working population by quantifying and monetising ONIHL-related loss of Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALY) and Productivity Adjusted Life Years (PALYs). We simulated the number of moderate-to-severe ONIHL by multiplying the age-specific prevalence of occupational noise exposure by the excess risks of ONIHL.

Genetic susceptibility to parenting style: DRD2 and COMT influence creativity.

The present study systematically investigated if genetic variations in the DRD2 and COMT interacted with parenting style to predict individual differences in creativity. In a sample of young adults, we first examined the interaction of each individual polymorphism and parenting style on creativity. Then, we aggregated the contribution of these susceptibility polymorphisms into a Cumulative Genetic Score (CGS) which combines the plasticity conferred by two or more single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of DRD2 and COMT into a single score.

Background: The New South Wales (NSW) Heart Failure Snapshot sought to provide a contemporaneous profile of patients admitted with acute heart failure. We have previously reported the baseline results, and this paper reports the 30-day and 12-month outcomes.

Methods: A prospective audit of consecutive patients admitted to 24 teaching hospitals across NSW and the Australian Capital Territory in July-August 2013 with acute heart failure.

Surgical aortic valve replacement in Australia, 2002-2015: temporal changes in clinical practice, patient profiles and outcomes.

Background: This study describes the temporal changes in risk profiles and outcomes among patients with aortic stenosis (AS) undergoing surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in Australia between 2002 and 2015.

Methods: Using the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons database, we identified first-recorded SAVR for AS over 14 years. Patients' surgical risk profiles, procedures, 30-day and 12-month outcomes were summarized before and after the introduction of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in Australia, in 2008.
