Tuberculosis (TB), caused by (Mtb), is the deadliest single-agent infection worldwide. Current antibiotic treatment for TB takes a minimum of four months, underscoring the need for better therapeutics. The unique mycobacterial cell envelope, particularly the outermost mycomembrane, has long been thought to promote intrinsic antibiotic resistance by limiting compound entry into Mtb.

Drug discovery is inherently challenged by a multiple criteria decision making problem. The arduous path from hit discovery through lead optimization and preclinical candidate selection necessitates the evolution of a plethora of molecular properties. In this study, we focus on the hit discovery phase while beginning to address multiple criteria critical to the development of novel therapeutics to treat infection.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is composed of a cumbersome signaling and protein network which partakes in bacterial survival and augments its pathogenesis. Mycobacterial PhoH2 (Mt-PhoH2) is a signaling element and a predictive phosphate starvation protein that works in an ATP-dependent manner. Here, we elaborated the characterization of Mt-PhoH2 through biophysical, biochemical, and computational methods.

Viral hepatitis (VH) is a significant public health issue with tremendous potential to aggravate into chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Recent decade has witnessed remarkable uprising in the drug development and effective treatment of VH. An upsurge is seen in identification of antiviral therapies with low rates of viral resistance, the improvement of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) vaccination and the development of direct-acting antivirals for Hepatitis C Virus (HCV).

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers identified biomarkers for diagnosing and treating Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) through a whole genome study in a North Indian population, examining gene expression in 72 MDD patients and 50 healthy controls.
  • The study found distinct gene expression patterns associated with MDD severity and treatment response, with involvement of immune and inflammatory pathways.
  • Additionally, significant biochemical differences were observed between MDD patients and healthy controls, highlighting key predictors like monocytes and creatinine that could aid in clinical diagnosis and understanding of MDD.

The use of tobacco products is one of the established contributors toward the development and spread of oral cancer. Additionally, recent research has indicated oral microbiome, infections with Human papilloma virus (HPV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Candida as significant contributing factors to this disease along with lifestyle habits. Deregulation of cellular pathways envisaging metabolism, transcription, translation, and epigenetics caused by these risk factors either individually or in unison is manifold, resulting in the increased risk of oral cancer.

Indiscriminate use of antibiotics to treat microbial pathogens has caused emergence of multiple drug resistant strains. Most infectious diseases are caused by microbes that are capable of intercommunication using signaling molecules, which is known as quorum sensing (QS). Such pathogens express their pathogenicity through various QS-regulated virulence factors.

The type of hemodialysis access and its preservation impact the quality of life and survival of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Vascular access complications are among the top causes of morbidity, hospitalization, and catheter use, with significant economic burden. Poor maturation and stenosis continue to be key impediments to upper arm arteriovenous fistula feasibility.

Background: Postoperative pain can occur because of residual infection even after effective chemomechanical preparation. This study aimed to compare postoperative pain after chemomechanical preparation with placebo and laser irradiation in nonvital teeth having symptomatic apical periodontitis.

Materials And Methods: Sixty ( = 30) participants after obtaining written consent were enrolled in the study.

Purpose: Fructose is highly lipogenic, and its unhindered ingestion by children and adolescents is understood to induce hypertriglyceridemia and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (ped-NAFLD) that is till date managed symptomatically or surgically. The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential of hydroethanolic extract of leaves of Guava (PG-HM) to suppress the alterations in the hepatic molecular signals due to unrestricted fructose (15%) drinking by growing rats.

Methods: Weaned rats (4 weeks old) in control groups had access to fructose drinking solution (15%) for four (4FDR) or eight (8FDR) weeks, ie, till puberty or early adulthood, respectively, while treatment groups (4PGR, 8PGR) additionally received PG-HM (500 mg/kg, po).

Introduction One of the major health problems in many countries including India is type 2 diabetes. Yoga is being explored as an alternative therapy for the management of diabetes. Methods Among the total of 137 participants who successfully completed the 'Living Well' workshop by the Art of Living, 84 with type 2 diabetes were assessed for change in random blood sugar levels, systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels (SBP/DBP), and pulse rate over seven days.

The signal recognition particle (SRP) system plays an imperative role in transporting the secretory protein to its intended location. The SRP pathway running in Mycobacterium tuberculosis constitutes FtsY (signal receptor), FfH (SRP), and 4.5S RNA in which signal receptor acts in the GTP-dependent manner.

Herein, we report a facile synthesis of Ni/NiO/SnO hybrids where the core-shell-type Ni/NiO nanoparticle is decorated with the SnO nanoparticle to make a heterojunction and their potential evaluation for simultaneous removal of organic and inorganic pollutants. The metallic nickel core of the nanoparticle helps to separate easily from water magnetically and restricts the possible secondary contamination. The formation of semiconductor-semiconductor heterojunction enhances the photocatalytic activity to degrade the organic pollutants.

MfpA protein encoded by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and stands for Mycobacterium fluoroquinolone resistance protein A. This protein provides Mtb intrinsic resistant property from fluoroquinolone antibiotics by inhibiting DNA gyrase that are known to be the primary target of fluoroquinolone drugs. DNA gyrases are important for bacterial chromosomal genesis as they are majorly involved in DNA replication, transcription, bacterial stress response to several external stimulus.

An article presented by Peterson and Verkhratsky in 2016 explore the linkage of calcium and ATP for a themed issue of "Evolution brings Ca  and ATP together to control life and death". The article impacted due to several findings of their cooperative functioning such as the formulation of ATP necessitates a small concentration of cytosolic Ca , and therefore leads these two molecules together. The low cytosolic Ca concentration is a primary advantage of its function like a universal secondary messenger.
