Prevalence and demographic distribution of anaemia among those visiting a teaching hospital located in tribal predominant block of Jharkhand: Retrospective record based analysis.

Background: Anaemia is a major public health concern in developing countries, with cases increasing rapidly among women, young girls, and children under age 5.

Aims: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of anaemia and to identify the age and gender distribution of anaemia among those attending IPD/OPD of a teaching hospital located in the tribal block.

Methodology: The study was conducted at a multispecialty tertiary care hospital in tribal predominant area, Jharkhand, India.

Mesothelial cell inclusions in lymph nodes are of rare occurrence and can be mistaken as metastatic adenocarcinomas, mesothelioma or sinus histiocytosis. These are usually found in mediastinal and abdominal lymph nodes and are associated with effusions. We report a case of benign mesothelial cell inclusions in cervical lymph nodes, which was associated with chylous effusion, and immunohistochemistry revealed unusual weak cytoplasmic epithelial membrane antigen positivity in the cells.

Effective atomic numbers and electron density of dosimetric material.

A novel method for determination of mass attenuation coefficient of x-rays employing NaI (Tl) detector system and radioactive sources is described.in this paper. A rigid geometry arrangement and gating of the spectrometer at FWHM position and selection of absorber foils are all done following detailed investigation, to minimize the effect of small angle scattering and multiple scattering on the mass attenuation coefficient, mu/rho, value.

Determination of X-ray mass attenuation coefficients using HPGe detector.

A detail analysis of a method to determine the mass attenuation coefficient, mu(m), of low energy X-rays employing HPGe X-ray detector and radioactive sources is described. This method incorporates all the suggestions made by Creagh and Hubbell. An optimum distance is set under the broad beam as well as good geometry arrangement.

Aim: To evaluate the antifertility activity of various extracts of Crotalaria juncea seeds in male mice.

Methods: Adult male mice were gavaged the petroleum ether, benzene and ethanol extracts of C. juncea seeds, 25 mg x (100g)(-1) x day(-1) for 30 days.

Antifertility effect of ethanolic extract of Amalakyadi churna in male albino mice.

Aim: To evaluate the antifertility activity of the ethanolic extract of Amalakyadi churna by oral administration in male albino mice.

Methods: The ethanol extract of Amalakyadi churna at the dose of 250 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg body weight was administered orally for 30 days to adult male mice. On day 31, the mice were sacrificed and the testis and accessory reproductive organs were removed and weighed.

Effect of FSH and LH on testis during nonbreeding season in Calotes versicolor (Daud.).

Histological and biochemical studies carried out on the male reproductive organs of the Indian garden lizard, Calotes versicolor after the treatment with pituitary gonadotrophins (FSH and LH), showed a significant increase in the weight, protein content and diameter of testis, but decrease in its cholesterol. The spermatogonia, spermatocytes and spermatids increased significantly in the germinal epithelium of seminiferous tubule, and spermatozoa appeared in its lumen. The Leydig and Sertoli cells were hypertrophied with increase in their nuclear diameter.

Effect of ethanol extract of Rivea hypocrateriformis on the estrous cycle of the rat.

The ethanol extract of Rivea hypocrateriformis was administered orally at the dose levels of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight to adult albino rats and resulted in an irregular estrous cycle with shortened estrus and metestrus, and with lengthened proestrus in non-dose dependent manner. Significant decreases in number of graffian follicles and corpora lutea and significant increases in number of atretic follicles in treated rats during experimental period indicated the antiovulatory effect of the extract. Increases in the weight of the uterus, its thickness and diameter indicated the uterotrophic effect of the extract.
