Breast cancer (C50) and neoplasms of female genital organs (C51-C58) represent one of the most frequent cancer groups among females in economically developed countries. The Institute of Public Health of the Osijek-Baranja County in collaboration with different county institutes provide updated information on the cancer occurrence and trends in the Osijek-Baranja County (OBC). The aim of this article is to provide information on the tendencies relating to these cancer groups in the OBC during the period from 2001 to 2009, which will be the first report on these cancer sites on a county level in Croatia.

Urgent Heart Retransplant in an Adult Patient With Anthracycline-Induced Cardiomyopathy After Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma - Case Report.

Heart retransplant is a treatment option for some patients with graft failure. With heart donor short-age, it is important to assess candidates carefully for cardiac retransplant. An adult patient had a successful urgent heart retransplant due to severe toxic cardiomyopathy (anthracycline-induced) after posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease that was a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Antioxidant and antiproliferative activity of chokeberry juice phenolics during in vitro simulated digestion in the presence of food matrix.

Chokeberry juice was subjected to in vitro gastric digestion in the presence of food matrix in order to determine the changes in polyphenol content and antioxidant activity. Addition of food matrix immediately decreased the total phenolic content, anthocyanin content, DPPH scavenging activity as well as total reducing power by 36%, 90%, 45% and 44%, respectively. After in vitro digestion, total phenolic content, anthocyanin content and reducing power are slightly elevated, but they are still lower than in initial non-digested juice.

Background: The aim of study was to evaluate which factors impact mostly on life-quality of patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma after thyroid hormone withdrawal.

Subjects And Methods: 150 patients were enrolled in the study by using Quality of life- Thyroid version questionnaire in which they expressed their physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being. The answers have been interpreted on a scale from 0 to 10.

Nodular fasciitis in the axillary tail of the breast.

Nodular fasciitis is a benign proliferation of myofibroblasts which presents clinically as a rapidly growing mass with nonspecific features on imaging and high cellular activity on histopathology. Nodular fasciitis can be mistaken for malignant fibrous lesions such as soft tissue sarcoma or breast carcinoma when located within breast tissue. This presents a problem for appropriate treatment planning as the natural history of nodular fasciitis is spontaneous regression.

A rare case of peripheral nerve hemangioblastoma—case report and literature review.

Hemangioblastoma is a rare benign tumor that consists of neoplastic vacuolated stromal cells and highly developed capillary blood vessels. These tumors are almost exclusively found in the central nervous system, but in extremely rare cases, it can arise in peripheral nerves. In the majority of cases, it occurs sporadically (60 to 75%), but in about 25% of cases, it is associated with von Hippel-Lindau disease.

The aim of our study was to assess the current state of newborn screening (NBS) in the region of southeastern Europe, as an example of a developing region, focusing also on future plans. Responses were obtained from 11 countries. Phenylketonuria screening was not introduced in four of 11 countries, while congenital hypothyroidism screening was not introduced in three of them; extended NBS programs were non-existent.

Value of cytology in small cell lung carcinoma diagnostic--single-center study.

Small cell carcinoma of the lung (SCLC) together with the large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC), typical carcinoid (TC), and atypical carcinoid (AC) make a group of morphologically identifiable neuroendocrine tumors. The differential diagnosis of SCLC includes, first of all, other neuroendocrine tumors, and primary or metastatic non-small cell carcinomas. Although the criteria for the morphologic separation from other tumors of the lung are defined, in everyday practice it can be a problem, both in cytology and with histological samples.

Women's demand for late-term abortion--a social or psychiatric issue?

Introduction/aim: Induced termination of unwanted pregnancy after 12th gestational week (late-term abortion) is legally restricted in Serbia as well as in many other countries. On the other hand, unwanted pregnancy very often brings women into the state of personal crisis. Psychiatric indications for legally approved late-term abortion on women's demand include only severe psychiatric disorders.

Management of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia with fondaparinux in a patient with left ventricular assist device.

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia is an immune-mediated serious adverse effect of heparin therapy. It is a relatively frequent complication among patients with mechanical circulatory support. Herein, we present a patient with severe heart failure and sepsis who developed heparin-induced thrombocytopenia shortly after implantation of left ventricular assist device as a bridge to transplantation and who was successfully treated with fondaparinux.

Calculation of reaction forces in the boiler supports using the method of equivalent stiffness of membrane wall.

The values of reaction forces in the boiler supports are the basis for the dimensioning of bearing steel structure of steam boiler. In this paper, the application of the method of equivalent stiffness of membrane wall is proposed for the calculation of reaction forces. The method of equalizing displacement, as the method of homogenization of membrane wall stiffness, was applied.

Influence of body weight on the biochemical indicators in menopause.

Introduction: One of the problems of today and probably this century is obesity, which is classified by the WHO as a disease.
