Purpose: The study aimed to explore the feasibility and effect of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) in the recovery of children who underwent thoracoscopic pulmonary resection.

Methods: From January 2015 to December 2021, consecutive patients who underwent thoracoscopic pulmonary resection were divided into group A and group B. All of them were treated with the same perioperative protocols except for group A with perioperative lung rehabilitation management, while group B was not.

In this paper, we propose a novel, to the best of our knowledge, and efficient parameter estimator based on the -nearest neighbor (NN) and data generation method for the lognormal-Rician turbulence channel, which is of vital importance to the free-space optical/quantum communications. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) goodness-of-fit statistical tools are employed to investigate the validity of the NN approximation under different channel conditions, and it is shown that the choice of plays a significant role in the approximation accuracy. We present several numerical results to illustrate that solving the constructed objective function can provide a reasonable estimate of the actual values.

P2-type NaMnNiO as the cathode for sodium-ion batteries, has a relatively high theoretical specific capacity, but its unstable crystal structure and undesirable phase transitions lead to rapid capacity decay. In this work, Mg-B-O coated NaMnNiO microspheres have been synthesized via a liquid-phase method based on solvothermal synthesized NaMnNiO. The Mg-B-O coating layer significantly improves the electrochemical performance, including specific capacity, rate capability, and cycle stability.

Hypertension (HT) is a prevalent medical condition showing an increasing incidence rate in various populations over recent years. Long-term hypertension increases the risk of the occurrence of hypertensive nephropathy (HTN), which is also a health-threatening disorder. Given that very little is known about the pathogenesis of HTN, this study was designed to identify disease biomarkers, which enable early diagnosis of the disease, through the utilization of high-throughput untargeted metabolomics strategies.

Heart failure (HF) is a serious public health concern. Baicalin is one of the major active ingredients of a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, Huang Qin, which is used to treat patients with chest pain or cardiac discomfort. However, the underlying mechanism(s) of the cardioprotective effect of baicalin are still not fully understood.

To establish a rapid and sensitive detection method for the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), gene-specific primers and a TaqMan probe were designed based on the gene of PRRSV, and a new stable fully pre-mixed reverse transcription real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) reaction mixture was developed. A simple and rapid RT-qPCR detection method for PRRSV was developed by optimizing nucleic acid amplification conditions. The results showed that the method was able to specifically detect PRRSV without cross-reactivity with the other 11 porcine susceptible viruses.

In Brief: Obesity is a prevalent health concern globally, often associated with testicular damage that can lead to male infertility. This study investigates the improvement of obesity-induced testicular damage by ACE2 agonist diminazene aceturate (DIZE) and explores the role of the ACE2/Ang 1-7/MasR axis in this process.

Abstract: DIZE improved obesity and metabolic disturbances in diet-induced obesity (DIO) mice.

Accurate modeling of the structures of protein-protein complexes and other biomolecular interactions represents a longstanding and important challenge for computational biology. The Critical Assessment of PRedicted Interactions (CAPRI) experiment has served for over two decades as a key means to assess and compare current approaches and methods through blind predictive scenarios, highlighting useful strategies, and new developments. Here we describe the performance of our laboratory's team in recent CAPRI rounds, which included submissions for 10 modeling targets.

Importance: Limb spasticity is a common issue among stroke patients. Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) is recommended as an alternative therapy for managing upper limb spasticity after stroke; however, its potential effects and feasibility remain uncertain.

Objective: To investigate the potential effects and feasibility of TEAS on motor function in patients with upper limb spasticity after stroke.

Bone marrow stimulation treatment by bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) released from the bone medullary cavity and differentiated into cartilage via microfracture surgery is a frequently employed technique for treating articular cartilage injuries, yet the treatment presents a main drawback of poor cartilage regeneration in the elderly. Prior research indicated that aging could decrease the stemness capacity of BMSCs, thus we made a hypothesis that increasing old BMSCs (OBMSCs) stemness might improve the results of microfracture in the elderly. First, we investigated the correlation between microfracture outcomes and BMSCs stemness using clinical data and animal experiments.

Purpose: Emerging literature links the role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) to the progression of cancers. However, the function of RAAS has not been verified in Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

Methods: ACE expression in ccRCC tissues was determined using RT-PCR, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry staining.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant contributor to global mortality and morbidity, with emerging evidence indicating a heightened risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) following TBI. This study aimed to explore the molecular intersections between TBI and AD, focusing on the role of adipose mesenchymal stem cell (ADMSC)-derived exosomes and hub genes involved in microglial polarization. Transcriptome profiles from TBI (GSE58485) and AD (GSE74614) datasets were analyzed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs).

Article Synopsis
  • The advancement of electronics and hybrid vehicles demands improved performance from polymer dielectrics, but their energy density drops due to leakage currents and losses at high temperatures and electric fields.
  • γ phase GaO nanoplates were synthesized and added to a polyimide matrix to enhance dielectric properties by introducing traps that reduce charge flow and leakage.
  • The resulting nanocomposite showed a high discharge energy density and breakdown strength at elevated temperatures, alongside impressive stability over many cycles, promising a new approach for capacitive energy storage in harsh environments.

  • Zoonotic infections like non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) are serious public health concerns, especially in China, but there is a lack of integrated studies using the One Health approach to investigate their prevalence and resistance patterns.
  • This study employed a systematic review and meta-analysis, examining NTS dynamics over decades, focusing on spatiotemporal prevalence, serovar distribution, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), utilizing data from multiple databases.
  • Findings revealed a 7.35% overall prevalence of NTS, higher in northern China, with poultry as the main source of key serovars; AMR rates were notably high at 73.63%, but showed improvement after a ban on excess use of antimicro

Background: Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury is the main cause of death worldwide and poses a significant threat to cardiac health. Ginsenoside Rg1 has been shown to have inhibitory effects on inflammatory activation, oxidative stress, and cardiac injury, suggesting that Rg1 may have therapeutic effects on MI/R injury. However, the mechanism remains to be further studied.

Article Synopsis
  • - T cell receptors (TCRs) that target cancer neoantigens play a crucial role in triggering immune responses and improving cancer immunotherapy, and understanding their structure can lead to better TCR designs.
  • - Researchers determined the crystal structures of a specific TCR with two NRAS neoantigen peptides and MHC, uncovering how TCRs can specifically recognize different versions of the same peptide.
  • - The study also utilized AlphaFold to model these TCR-peptide-MHC complexes, demonstrating the effectiveness of this tool in predicting immunological interactions despite some challenges with accuracy in certain cases.
