Biological variation in laboratory results refers to physiological fluctuations that occur around a homeostatic setpoint (HSP) for various laboratory measurands. Assessment of biological variation includes determining individual variation (CV), group variation (CV), and analytical variation (CV). Reference change value (RCV) is an objective tool for an evidence-based approach to interpret data by assessing the significance of consecutive results in an individual for the diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of disease.

However, epilepsy patients can experience sudden reminiscences after intracranial electrical brain stimulation (EBS). In these cases, the transient brain state related to the activation of the engram and its conscious perception can be recorded using intracerebral EEG (iEEG).

Postcancer rehabilitation: multidisciplinary exercise - programme organisation and feasibility.

Background: Although the benefit of supportive care in the postcancer period is now well demonstrated, its implementation in the patient journey remains challenging. This article describes the development, since 2015 and in routine care, of supportive postcancer care comprising a multidisciplinary rehabilitation programme (MRP) based on exercise for patients with early breast cancer.

Methods: As part of quality control, we reviewed all patient files since the programme was implemented.

Racial Disparities in Clinical Trial Enrollment Among Patients Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer: A Population-Based Cohort of Oncology Practices.

Although clinical trials should be accessible to all patients, persistent racial and ethnic disparities in clinical trial enrollment exist. Herein, we examine racial disparities in clinical trial enrollment among prostate cancer patients from a large population-based cohort of oncology practices in the United States. Using CancerLinQ Discovery, we identified men with regional (N1+) and/or metastatic (M1) prostate cancer diagnosed from 2011 to 2023.

Senna is a medicinal herb commonly used as a laxative and dietary aid for weight loss. Repeated consumption of Senna may lead to persistent diarrhea. Furthermore, cases of acute liver failure and hepato-encephalopathic syndrome after chronic Senna ingestion were reported in literature.

Clinical and prognostic relevance of PCR detection in feline lower respiratory tract disease.

Objectives: The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to compare two groups of cats with lower respiratory tract disease, one with detected by PCR in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) (M+) and the other without (M-), with regard to signalment, clinical signs, diagnostic results, treatment response and survival.

Methods: All cats for which was investigated by PCR in BALF between 2016 and 2023 were included. Cats with evidence of oropharyngeal contamination, or for which PCR results were under the quantification level, or without follow-up information were excluded.

Pneumococcal Septic Arthritis among Adults, France, 2010-2018.

Streptococcus pneumoniae infection is considered an uncommon cause of arthritis in adults. To determine the clinical and microbiological characteristics of pneumococcal septic arthritis, we retrospectively studied a large series of cases among adult patients during the 2010-2018 conjugate vaccine era in France. We identified 110 patients (56 women, 54 men; mean age 65 years), and cases included 82 native joint infections and 28 prosthetic joint infections.

Aseptic Tibial Loosening is Associated with Thickness of the Cement: A Radiographic Case-Control Study.

Background: The cementation technique is crucial for achieving adequate fixation and optimal survivorship in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The thickness of the cement at the tibial bone-implant surface may be related to aseptic tibial loosening. However, to date, no studies have demonstrated a direct association between cement thickness and rates of aseptic tibial loosening.

Feasibility and Acceptance of a Remotely Supervised Home-Based Group Mobility Exercise for Older Adults Using a Mobile Robotic Telepresence: A Pilot Study.

Background/objectives:  Mobile robotic telepresence could be used to remotely supervise physical activity programs. Our study aims to explore the feasibility, acceptance, and usability of a physical activity program offered synchronously via a mobile robotic telepresence platform.

Methods:  For this interventional study, five Cutii robots were made available in two residences for older adults in Quebec.

Dynamics of major and trace elements during leaf litter decomposition in semi-arid mangrove subject to urban runoff.

This study examined the dynamics of major elements and trace metals (TM) during litterfall decomposition in two mangrove forests-control and urban-along New Caledonia's coast. A litterbag experiment was carried out for 72 days for the two main species (Rhizophora stylosa, and Avicennia marina) of the island. Results showed that the urban runoff enhances the leaching of some major elements (K, Mg, Na) during litter decomposition.

Preoperative versus postoperative radiotherapy for localized soft tissue sarcoma treated with curative intent in a French tertiary center "SARCLOC".

Background: Soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities (E-STS) are rare and heterogeneous. Treatment combines surgery with preoperative or postoperative radiotherapy (RT) for deep, large, or high-grade tumors. We evaluate the effectiveness and toxicity in E-STS patients treated at our institution from 2015 to 2021.

Retinoblastoma (RB) proteins are highly conserved transcriptional regulators that play important roles during development by regulating cell-cycle gene expression. RBL2 dysfunction has been linked to a severe neurodevelopmental disorder. However, to date, clinical features have only been described in six individuals carrying five biallelic predicted loss of function (pLOF) variants.

Modern production-oriented farming has led to a decline in agricultural biodiversity. In Europe, one example of concern is the common hamster , a hibernating rodent once largely distributed in farmlands and now listed as Critically Endangered. The decline of this species is tied to a significant decrease in hamsters' body mass at emergence from hibernation and in reproduction rate.

[Medical simulation training for bone marrow harvesting from a healthy donor for an allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (SFGM-TC)].

This workshop presents the recommendations of the Société francophone de greffe de moelle et de thérapie cellulaire (SFGM-TC) for simulation-based training on bone marrow harvesting from healthy donors. Due to the decline in bone marrow harvests in favor of peripheral stem cells, a loss of expertise has been observed among younger hematologists. The training consists of an online theoretical component and a hands-on workshop using a mannequin at the PRESAGE simulation center at the Lille University School of Medicine.

Is oral dydrogesterone equivalent to vaginal micronized progesterone for luteal phase support in women receiving oocyte donation?

Research Question: To determine whether the use of oral dydrogesterone (DYD) in luteal phase support (LPS) during an artificial cycle provides equivalent clinical and ongoing pregnancy, delivery and miscarriage rates as micronized vaginal progesterone (MVP) in oocyte donation recipients.

Design: This was a retrospective observational study of prospectively collected data from the assisted reproductive technology (ART) Department of Lille University Hospital from July 2018 to July 2022. All recipients underwent endometrial preparation by an artificial cycle.

Time to Next Systemic Therapy After Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Oligoprogressive Metastatic Castrate-Resistant Prostate Cancer.

Purpose: Patients with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) with progressive disease generally require a change or escalation in systemic therapy. For patients with limited (1-3) sites of progressive disease (oligoprogression), metastasis-directed therapy with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) may allow a longer interval before next-line systemic therapy.

Methods And Materials: This is a retrospective study of patients with oligoprogressive metastatic CRPC (mCRPC) treated with SBRT at a single center between 2011 and 2022.
