Pandemic potential of the Nipah virus and public health strategies adopted during outbreaks: Lessons from Kerala, India.

Kerala, a south Indian state witnessed several outbreaks of Nipah encephalitis since 2018, a zoonotic viral disease with significant pandemic potential. This review highlights the relevance of surveillance and health system preparedness, infection control, early diagnosis and treatment with broad-spectrum antivirals, environmental conservation, and community engagement in mitigating Nipah outbreaks. Additionally, it emphasises the importance of developing new biologicals and anti-viral drugs to combat the disease.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis: a neglected clinical manifestation among the tribal population in Nilambur, Kerala, India.

Background: Different clinical manifestations of leishmaniasis (cutaneous and visceral) caused by Leishmania donovani have been reported from Kerala, India. Leishmania donovani causing cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) (also called atypical CL [ACL]) is one of the major health concerns in the Western Ghats belt of the state.

Methods: Skin biopsies of 20 patients with suspected CL from Nilambur, Kerala, were processed for CL diagnosis during the period 2022-2023.

We designed and successfully synthesized highly substituted electron-deficient nonplanar Ni(II) porphyrins and their derivatives () in moderate to good yields. These derivatives were comprehensively characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. SCXRD analysis confirmed the structures of compounds , , and , adopting saddle-shape geometry.

Introduction: Central venous catheters (CVCs) are widely used in the management and resuscitation of critically ill patients in emergency departments and intensive care units. Correct depth of insertion of the CVC line is important to ensure uninterrupted flow, avoid complications, and monitor central venous pressure. Transthoracic echocardiography, with contrast enhancement, has been proposed as an alternative to chest X-ray in detecting central venous line positioning with high accuracy.

Hence twenty plant peptides were subjected to screening by molecular docking against the envelope protein of the dengue virus using Clus Pro, Patch Dock, and HADDOCK servers.
