COPD is a multifactorial illness characterized by a long-term restriction of airflow and an inflammatory reaction in the lungs. The associated emphysema leads to the breakdown of alveolar proteins and abnormal expansion of the lung air spaces. Chronic bronchitis caused by the same disease can result in increased deposition of structural proteins, narrowing of the airways, and excessive mucus secretion leading to acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD).

The morphology of GaN(0001) thin films grown by molecular beam epitaxy is dependent on the ratio of the gallium to nitrogen flux. Films grown under gallium-rich conditions form smooth surfaces, while those grown under nitrogen-rich conditions result in rough, pitted surfaces. This difference is attributed to the high barrier for surface diffusion of nitrogen, which is remedied by the surfactant effect of gallium under excess gallium conditions.

In the past few decades, there has been a gradual increase in breast reconstruction post mastectomy; however, there exists a conflict about whether race has an influence on reconstruction rates. We conducted an electronic search from MEDLINE and Cochrane CENTRAL from their inception to September 2022. Primary outcome was disparity in rates of Immediate Breast Reconstruction (IBR) in racial minorities.

Article Synopsis
  • Ovarian cancer is categorized into two types: low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSC), which arises from serous borderline tumors (SBT), and high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC), typically originating from serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC).
  • The case study discusses a patient diagnosed with stage IIIC HGSC, who also had SBT and LGSC, highlighting the complexities in the cancer's development and treatment.
  • Despite undergoing surgery and chemotherapy (TC + bevacizumab), the tumor was resistant to treatment and exhibited mutations, with p53 dysfunction believed to play a role in the transformation from SBT/LGSC to HGSC.

  • The study aimed to explore the connection between clinical indicators and gene dysregulation in various types of epilepsy to create a diagnostic model to differentiate focal from generalized seizures.
  • A thorough analysis was done on the blood samples of 100 epilepsy patients and 51 controls, utilizing statistical methods to assess gene expression and develop diagnostic tools using logistic regression.
  • The results indicated significant genetic discrimination between seizure types, with an overall excellent diagnostic power observed, suggesting blood tests could be a reliable method for differentiating between focal and generalized seizures.

Introduction: Remdesivir (REM) and molnupiravir (MOL) are commonly used to treat lung transplant recipients (LTRs) with COVID-19; however, the clinical efficacy of these medications is yet to be compared. In this retrospective cohort study, we compared the clinical outcomes between LTRs with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 treated with REM and those treated with MOL.

Methods And Results: Between March 2020 and August 2022, 195 LTRs developed COVID-19 at our center.

Burns are very common and important injuries associated with epilepsy. Epileptics are afflicted with burns when they come in contact with fire or other burning agents while seizing, due to loss of consciousness. The aim of the study was to identify the causes of burn, pattern and characteristics of burn in patients with epilepsy, duration of hospital stay and pattern of treatment in these patients.

Background: AT-rich interaction domain 1A (ARID1A) has been proposed as a new biomarker for predicting response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). The predictive value of ARID1A for predicting ICI effectiveness has not been reported for endometrial cancer. Therefore, we investigated whether ARID1A negativity predicts ICI effectiveness for endometrial cancer treatment.

Although endometriosis is a benign disease, it is associated with cancer-related gene mutations, such as or . Endometriosis is associated with elevated levels of inflammatory factors that cause severe pain. In a previous study, we demonstrated that or mutations are associated with the activation of cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in a patient-derived immortalized endometriotic cell line, HMOsisEC10.

Cancer is considered one of the deadliest diseases globally, and continuous research is being carried out to find novel potential therapies for myriad cancer types that affect the human body. Researchers are hunting for innovative remedies to minimize the toxic effects of conventional therapies being driven by cancer, which is emerging as pivotal causes of mortality worldwide. Cancer progression steers the formation of heterogeneous behavior, including self-sustaining proliferation, malignancy, and evasion of apoptosis, tissue invasion, and metastasis of cells inside the tumor with distinct molecular features.

This study aims to focus on identifying how unemployment and inflation and their related aspects affect Palestinian economic growth. The study employed the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model employing annual time series data for estimate and result analysis. The ARDL model was estimated in both long and short run as follows; on one hand, the results showed that there is a potential negative impact of aspects-related unemployment on economic growth in Palestine over the long-term.

Background: Lung transplant recipients (LTRs) are at increased risk of morbidity and mortality from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, the disease course has changed as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants have mutated. We compared COVID-19-related clinical outcomes in LTRs at different stages of the pandemic. We also identified risk factors for developing severe COVID-19 independent of the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant.

The lungs and esophagus have a close anatomical and physiological relationship. Over the years, reflux-induced pulmonary injury has gained wider recognition, but the full effects of pulmonary disease on esophageal function are still unknown. Intrathoracic pressure dynamics potentially affect esophageal function, especially in patients with end-stage lung disease, both obstructive and restrictive.
