Hearing loss (HL) is the most common disorder in newborns with a highly heterogeneous genetic background. Despite significant progress in screening and identifying genes related to congenital hearing loss, there are still candidate genes implicated in HL that remain undiscovered. We investigated HL in 43 Chinese families by segregating bilateral sensorineural HL via whole-exome sequencing (WES) and Sanger sequencing.

Background: Although a few studies have examined the correlation between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and mortality, no study has explored these associations in hypertensive populations. This study aims to investigate the relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in adults with hypertension.

Methods: Hypertensive participants aged ≥18 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2018 with blood lipid testing data and complete follow-up data until 31 December 2019 were enrolled in the analysis.

Molecularly imprinted nanocomposite membranes (MINMs) have shown great superiority in selective separation of acteoside (ACT) from phenylethanoid glycosides in Cistanche tubulosa. Herein, ACT-based MINMs (A-MINMs) with coral reef-like imprinted structure were proposed and developed for specifically separating ACT molecules. The nanospheres with hydrophilic multicores (NHMs) were introduced into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) powders to obtain NHMs@PVDF membranes by a phase inversion method.

Previous studies have demonstrated the dynamic changes in chromatin structure during retinal development correlate with changes in gene expression. However, those studies lack cellular resolution. Here, we integrate single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and single-cell assay for transposase-accessible chromatin sequencing (scATAC-seq) with bulk data to identify cell-type-specific changes in chromatin structure during human and murine development.

At present, some progress has been made in developing NIR light-responsive free radical generators. However, the efficacy of theranostics continues to be hindered by tumor-associated inflammatory reactions. Hence, fulfilling the in situ release of free radicals upon NIR light excitation specifically activated by the inflammation microenvironment would be an ideal strategy for efficient inflammation eradication and tumor suppression but remains a challenge.

Precipitation forecasting is vital for managing disasters, urban traffic, and agriculture. This study develops an improved model for short-term precipitation forecasting by combining Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU). Using precipitation data from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2022, as a sample, the model capitalizes on CEEMDAN's superior signal decomposition capabilities and GRU's ability to capture nonlinear dynamic patterns in time series.

Background: Dysregulated and excessive inflammatory reactions can lead to tissue damage, which is the underlying cause of most human diseases. Menisoxoisoaporphine A (MA), a novel oxoisoaporphine alkaloid, was obtained from Menispermi Rhizoma, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions in clinical practice. This suggests that MA has very promising potential for the development of anti-inflammatory therapeutics.

Article Synopsis
  • * NHOH increases nitrite levels and nitrogen removal efficiency by about 18.1%, especially with concentrations up to 10 mg N/L, promoting beneficial microbial communities.
  • * However, excess NHOH (over 15 mg N/L) can inhibit anammox processes by disrupting the reduction of nitrogen oxides, indicating that careful dosing of NHOH is vital for optimal results.

Objective: Osteoarthritis (OA), a degenerative disease marked by cartilage erosion and synovial proliferation, has led to an increased interest in natural plant-based compounds to slow its progression. Pristimerin(Pri), a triterpenoid compound derived from Tripterygium wilfordii, has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics. This study explores the protective effects of Pri on OA and its potential mechanisms.

Background: The optimal treatment for Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures remains contentious. We aim to compare the biomechanical properties of three inverted cannulated compression screw (ICCS), femoral neck system (FNS), and percutaneous compression plate (PCCP) to determine which offers superior stability for unstable femoral neck fractures.

Materials And Methods: Finite element analysis and artificial bone models were used to establish Pauwels III femoral neck fracture models.

Applying anammox to municipal wastewater treatment promises enormous energy and resource savings; however, seasonally cold conditions pose a considerable challenge, impeding its future applications towards non-tropical regions. In this study, we establish a pilot-scale wastewater treatment plant (50 m/d) in northern China and implement the partial denitrification coupling anammox process on actual municipal wastewater. Despite seasonal cooling, the nitrogen removal efficiency remains high, ranging from 75.

The fabrication of self-reporting photosensitizers (PSs), enabling real-time evaluation of the extent of elimination of cancer cells, holds significant scientific importance in the photodynamic therapy (PDT) process. To address the intrinsic challenge of the short-wavelength light source, this work proposed an innovative approach of rational design second near-infrared (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) light-excited fluorescent PS systems (named , , and , respectively) through modulating aggregation and deaggregation based on assembling strategy. Therein, the suitable interplanar distance of adjacent linked with C-H···π interactions was an idea for relieving compact π···π packing for fluorescent imaging as well as elevating the spin-orbit coupling for reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation.

Translocations within the TFE gene resulting in oncogenic fusion proteins have been associated with multiple neoplasms. De novo mutations in the X-linked gene TFE3 in exons 3 and 4 are considered to contribute to lysosomal storage disorder-like features. However, the histologic findings within the livers of patients with TFE3 mutations are not well characterized.

Background: Diastolic dysfunction emerges early in patients with cardiac insufficiency and is prevalent, underscoring the importance of its early identification and intervention in the prevention of heart failure. The study leverages the convenience and accuracy of measuring peripheral arterial sclerosis to facilitate the early detection of diastolic dysfunction, which is instrumental in mitigating and delaying the onset and progression of heart failure, holding significant clinical relevance.

Methods: This research enrolled 556 patients suspected of experiencing Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) and stratified them into Groups A, B, C, and D according to the severity of coronary artery stenosis.

This review aims to gain a deeper understanding of the psychological state of elderly patients with femoral fractures and provide more theoretical and practical support for clinical treatment and care. Through a literature analysis, we found that elderly patients with femoral fractures face various psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and social isolation. The application of systematic nursing interventions in clinical practice, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness therapy, family therapy, art therapy, interpersonal therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and relaxation training, has yielded significant results.

  • Spaghetti knotting technology shows promise in improving LESS surgery by enhancing the operator's visual field and suturing accuracy compared to traditional knotting methods.
  • A study involving 40 junior residents found that those trained with spaghetti knotting technology completed tasks faster, used longer threads, and maintained better tissue integrity than those using conventional methods.
  • Overall, while the new technique reduced workload and improved performance in specific areas, both training methods had similar outcomes in needle insertion accuracy, knotting stability, and tissue tightness.
