Investigation of foot care knowledge and behaviour of older people with type 2 diabetes in Beijing community and analysis of influencing factors.

Good foot care knowledge and behaviour are very important to prevent the occurrence of diabetic foot, but there are few reports on the foot care knowledge and behaviour of older people with diabetes in the community. The purpose of this study was to understand the foot care knowledge and behaviour of older people with type 2 diabetes in Beijing community, and analyse its influencing factors, so as to provide reference for further intervention. We investigated 254 older people with type 2 diabetes in Xinjiekou community, Beijing, including their general information, chronic complications, foot care knowledge and behaviour.

Extracorporeal liver surgery (ELS), also known as liver autotransplantation, is a hybrid (cross-fertilized) surgery incorporating the technical knowledge from extreme liver and transplant liver surgeries, and recently became more embraced and popularized among leading centers. ELS could be summarized into three major categories, namely, ex-situ liver resection and autotransplantation (ELRA), ante-situm liver resection and autotransplantation (ALRA) and auxiliary partial liver autotransplantation (APLA). The successful development of ELS during the past 37 years is definitely inseparable from continuous efforts done by Chinese surgeons and researchers.

The immediate pain relief of low-level laser therapy for burning mouth syndrome: a retrospective study of 94 cases.

Significance: Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic orofacial pain disorder that seriously affects quality of life of patients. In recent years, Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been regarded as an important innovation in pain management, but there is insufficient evidence of its effectiveness in patients with painful BMS. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of LLLT for immediate pain relief due to BMS.

Cadmium pollution in water is becoming increasingly serious. Thus, the effective removal of Cd(II) from water has garnered attention. Aluminum hydroxide-modified attapulgite (ATP-AC) was prepared from basic aluminum acetate through a coprecipitation method that could efficiently adsorb Cd(II) in aqueous solution.

A novel proceduralized donor liver back-table preparation technique minimizes hemorrhage following liver implantation in orthotropic liver transplantation.

Background: Intraoperative hemorrhage is one of the major complications of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and is mainly caused by technical difficulties of the surgical procedure besides primary liver diseases. The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and clinical effects of a novel proceduralized donor liver back-table preparation (DLBTP) technique for use in OLT.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted between January 2018 and June 2020 based on patients who had undergone OLT.

Farnesoid X receptor (FXR) is considered as the target of OCA for cholestasis, but there is still a lack of research on whether hepatic and ileal FXR have different effects after OCA treatment.

Purpose: To investigate the functional and structural characteristics of temporomandibular joint(TMJ) in introverted deep overbite patients with severe wear, to analyze the correlation between the vertical distance of the lower 1/3 of the face and TMJ space, and to compare the clinical efficacy of multidisciplinary treatment with orthodontics and prosthodontics on TMJ function.

Methods: Eighty patients with deep overbite and severe abrasion and forty subjects with normal occlusion admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to June 2023 were enrolled in this study. The clinical data were collected and the functional and structural characteristics of TMJ were collected.

Farm biosecurity is considered an important component of "One Health". Biosecurity measures are crucial for preventing and controlling outbreaks and spread of diseases on farms. Protection motivation theory (PMT) links perception of risk and coping ability with taking preventive actions.

Anxiety and depression in patients undergoing catheter ablation due to atrial fibrillation: A cross-sectional survey.

Background: The procedure of catheter ablation is frequently utilized in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, and it is important to note that the mental well-being of patients who are about to undergo this procedure is typically stable. The purpose of this study is to assess the current state and influencing factors of anxiety and depression among patients with atrial fibrillation prior to undergoing catheter ablation, to offer valuable insights to clinical interventions and patient care.

Methods: This study included patients with atrial fibrillation who were treated by radiofrequency ablation in a tertiary hospital in Suzhou, China from February 1 to August 31, 2023.

Background: Minimally invasive surgeries are increasingly central to modern medicine, particularly in liver transplantation. These techniques, which offer reduced trauma, precise operations, minimal bleeding, and swift recovery, are, however, unevenly adopted across China. Only a limited number of centers routinely perform minimally invasive donor hepatectomies, indicating a significant imbalance in the development and application of these advanced procedures.

The integrity of tight junctions (TJs) of glomerular endothelial cells (GECs) is a guarantee of physiological function of glomerular filtration barrier. Mammalian sterile 20-like kinase (MST1) is a key regulatory protein in the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and it regulates the expression of TJs-related proteins in cerebral vascular endothelial cells.

Real-time monitoring of bioelectrical impedance for minimizing tissue carbonization in microwave ablation of porcine liver.

The charring tissue generated by the high temperature during microwave ablation can affect the therapeutic effect, such as limiting the volume of the coagulation zone and causing rejection. This paper aimed to prevent tissue carbonization while delivering an appropriate thermal dose for effective ablations by employing a treatment protocol with real-time bioelectrical impedance monitoring. Firstly, the current field response under different microwave ablation statuses is analyzed based on finite element simulation.

Development and validation of a predictive nomogram for vascular crises in oral and maxillofacial cancer patients undergoing free flap surgery.

Objective: To develop and validate a predictive model for identifying vascular crises following free tissue flap transplantation in patients undergoing surgery for oral and maxillofacial tumors.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study utilized medical records from the Department of Head and Neck Oncology, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, covering the period from January 2014 to December 2021. The analysis included 1,786 cases, divided into a training group (n = 1,251) and a validation group (n = 535).

Reducing the dietary starch:protein ratios in low-protein diets enhanced the growth performance of goslings from 1 to 28 days of age.

The current study aimed to explore the suitable starch: protein ratios under different dietary protein levels for goslings. A total of 360 male 1-day-old Jiangnan White goslings were randomly divided into 6 groups with six replicates containing ten goslings each. The experimental design consisted of a 3 × 2 factorial array of treatments.

Methods: A questionnaire for risk factors of lung, breast, upper gastrointestinal, liver, and colorectal cancers was administered to urban residents aged 40-74 years in five cities to assess their cancer risk. High-risk participants were invited for screening and classified into five groups on the basis of the number of cancer types that were assessed to be high risk.

Candida albicans is the most common aetiologic pathogen of fungal infections associated with high mortality in immunocompromised patients. There is an urgent need to develop new antifungal therapies owing to the poor efficacy and resistance of current antifungals. Here, we report that Trim72 positively regulates antifungal immunity during lethal fungal infection.

This study aims to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of global research trends and hotspots related to the biological activities of D-limonene, a prominent monoterpene compound found in essential oils, that warrant attention. We performed a bibliometric analysis of 1928 publications sourced from the Web of Science core database, covering the period from 1994 to 2024. Utilizing CiteSpace and VOSviewer software, we analyzed publication trends, collaboration networks among countries, institutions, and authors, and explored the evolution of research themes and current hotspots through keyword analysis.

A Novel Preoperative Classification System for Selecting Suitable Surgeries in Liver Transplant Patients with Portal Vein Cavernous Transformation.

Background: To evaluate the new preoperative Changgung classification (CC) system of portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in choosing suitable operative procedures to reconstruct portal veins during liver transplantation (LT) in patients with portal vein cavernous transformation (PVCT).

Methods: This retrospective observational study analyzed data from allograft LTs performed for various liver diseases.

Results: The study included 22 males and 4 females with LT indications comprising cirrhosis ( = 9), hepatocellular carcinoma ( = 12), PVCT ( = 2), liver failure from fulminant hepatitis B ( = 1), dysfunction of transplanted liver ( = 1), and chronic rejection of transplanted liver ( = 1).

An effective strategy to facilitate oxygen redox chemistry in metal-air batteries is to introduce a redox mediator into the liquid electrolyte. The rational utilization of redox mediators to accelerate the charging kinetics while ensuring the long lifetime of alkaline Zn-air batteries is challenging. Here, we apply commercial acetylene black catalysts to achieve an I -mediated Zn-air battery by using ZnI additives that provide I to accelerate the cathodic redox chemistry and regulate the uniform deposition of Zn on the anode.
