Introduction: Acute kidney injury involves inflammation and intrinsic renal damage, and is a common complication of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Baseline chronic kidney disease (CKD) confers an increased mortality risk. We determined the renal long-term outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with baseline CKD, and the risk factors prompting renal replacement therapy (RRT) initiation and mortality.

In this context, we summarize the state of knowledge on the most important longevity and ageing genetic variants, and their interactions with the environment, in achieving a healthy lifespan. We also explore the contribution of lifestyle and the influence of non-heritable environmental factors on ageing (i.

Herein, we reported a rare and dangerous variation as the partial anomalous venous drainage of the right upper lobe into the superior vena cava in a patient undergoing thoracoscopic lobectomy for management of lung cancer of right upper lobe. The preoperative identification of such variation by 3D computed tomography scan allowed to plan a safe and accurate resection, and to prepare additional strategies for overcome unexpected intraoperative bleeding.

To date, current treatment options primarily involve various chemotherapies, which often prove ineffective and are associated with substantial toxicity. Furthermore, immunotherapies utilizing checkpoint inhibitors have shown limited efficacy in this context, highlighting an urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies.

This affection represents a significant therapeutic challenge, particularly for symptomatic patients who do not respond to antibiotic treatments and biologic therapies. Several dietary approaches, including low FODMAP diets and the Mediterranean diet, have shown promising results in improving symptoms and disease burden.

This review aims at summarizing data from and studies for a better understanding of the application of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) for the disinfection of dental root canals.

Targeting of the estrogen receptor (ER) by anti-estrogens is the standard-of-care for patients with ER+ HER2- advanced/metastatic breast cancer. While anti-estrogens that degrade ERα (fulvestrant) or block estrogen production (aromatase inhibitors) have improved patient outcomes, clinically important challenges remain related to drug administration, limited bioavailability, lack of brain exposure, and acquired resistance due to ESR1 mutations. These limitations indicate a need for more robust ER-targeted therapies.

Indeed, there is a strong association between adipose tissue and the pulmonary system, and low-grade inflammation of obese and/or overweight subjects have a pivotal role in lung cancer establishment.

Further research is needed to determine whether drains safely meet their primary purpose of identifying and managing postoperative intraperitoneal collections without the need for reoperation or additional percutaneous drainage.
Objective: To determine whether avoiding routine abdominal drainage increased postoperative invasive procedures.
Background: The AFX unibody endograft offers advantages in treating abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) with narrow aortic bifurcations due to its unique design, where the flow divider sits at the native aortic bifurcation. However, its limited length options may limit complete proximal neck utilization. As per device instruction for use, the implant should be completed with an aortic cuff.

There is no therapy to prevent heart dysfunction in aging and diabetic individuals. In previous studies, a single administration of the longevity-associated variant (LAV) of the human BPIFB4 gene halted heart decline in older and type 2 diabetic mice.

Objectives: The study aimed to identify patient characteristics that indicate the initiation of a 200 mg dosage of tildrakizumab in a real-world setting, focusing on factors that enhance treatment effectiveness and safety.
Methods: This prospective study included 54 adult patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis treated with tildrakizumab 200 mg from March 2023 to March 2024 across 13 Italian Dermatology Units.
Ciprofloxacin (CPX) is one of the most employed antibiotics in clinics to date. However, the rise of drug-resistant bacteria is dramatically impairing its efficacy, especially against life-threatening pathogens, such as . This Gram-negative bacterium is an opportunistic pathogen, often infecting immuno-compromised patients with severe or fatal outcomes.

This paper delves into the anatomical and pathophysiological underpinnings of discogenic LBP, emphasizing the role of intervertebral disc degeneration in the onset of pain. The pathogenesis is multifactorial, involving processes like mitochondrial dysfunction, accumulation of advanced glycation end products, and pyroptosis, all contributing to disc degeneration and subsequent pain.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of the assessment of a dedicated team of nurses (DTN) in all onco-hematological patients undergoing VATS lobectomy for lung cancer on the outcome of the patient, preventing pressure injuries, reducing perioperative stress, duration of operations, complications, and hospital stay times. We performed a single-center observational retrospective study, including 31 DTN and 760 onco-hematological patients who underwent thoracic surgery between 30 October 2018 and 30 June 2023 at "Vanvitelli" University of Naples.

Thrombocytosis may be present after lung cancer resection, but the clinical significance of thrombocytosis remains unclear. Herein, we evaluated whether postoperative thrombocytosis was a negative prognostic factor in patients undergoing thoracoscopic lobectomy for lung cancer.

Many EDs have a split flow model where less acute (ESI 4 and 5) are seen in a fast track, while more acute (ESI 1, 2, and 3) are seen in the acute care area. A core principle of emergency medicine (EM) is to attend to more acute patients first.

Here we define the lineage-specific action and differential activity of EZH2 in both prostate adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) subtypes of advanced prostate cancer to better understand the role of EZH2 in modulating differentiation, lineage plasticity, and to identify mediators of response and resistance to EZH2 inhibitor therapy. Mechanistically, EZH2 modulates bivalent genes that results in upregulation of NEPC-associated transcriptional drivers (e.
