Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a heterogenous behavioral disorder with inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity symptoms, indicating the important implication of identifying biotypes and its epicenters in understanding disease's pathogenesis. The study investigated the neuromorphic heterogeneity relating to transcriptional similarity architecture in ADHD, and further analyzed the epicenters of network-spreading in each ADHD biotype and their correlations with clinical characteristics. Individuals with ADHD could be identified into two discriminative biotypes that exhibited distinct neuromorphic aberrances.

Hidradenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare neoplasm that typically occurs in the head and neck region but seldom affects the chest wall. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry remain essential for diagnosing HAC, although their clinical utility in determining metastasis can be limited. Given the pathological rarity and histopathological heterogeneity of HAC, we report a case demonstrating the utility of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) combined with immunohistochemical examination for the accurate diagnosis and staging of HAC.

Background: Neurofilament light chain (NfL) has recently emerged as a key indicator of neurodegeneration. In this study, our hypothesis is that the levels of blood-derived NfL and its accumulation during the Parkinson's disease (PD) progression could serve as a potential biomarker for predicting subsequent cognitive decline. To investigate this, we conducted a study utilizing a large single-center cohort.

  • Postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks are serious complications that can occur after endoscopic skull base surgery, prompting the need for effective treatment strategies.
  • This study examines a multilayered membrane reconstruction method used in 15 patients to address high-flow intraoperative CSF leaks during expanded endoscopic endonasal tumor resections from January 2019 to June 2023.
  • The results showed no cases of postoperative CSF leakage or related complications after a median follow-up of 13 months, suggesting this technique may be a reliable option for watertight closure and indicating a need for further research.

Optical interconnects, leveraging surface plasmon modes, are revolutionizing high-performance computing and AI, overcoming the limitations of electrical interconnects in speed, energy efficiency, and miniaturization. These nanoscale photonic circuits integrate on-chip light manipulation and signal conversion, marking significant advancements in optoelectronics and data processing efficiency. Here, we present a novel plasmonic interconnect circuit, by introducing refractive index matching layer, the device supports both pure SPP and different hybrid modes, allowing selective excitation and transmission based on light wavelength and polarization, followed by photocurrent conversion.

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is traditionally recognized as a plasma protein that neutralizes antigens for immune defense. However, our research demonstrates that IgG predominantly accumulates in adipose tissue during obesity development, triggering insulin resistance and macrophage infiltration. This accumulation is governed by neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn)-dependent recycling, orchestrated in adipose progenitor cells and macrophages during the early and late stages of diet-induced obesity (DIO), respectively.

Measurement of masses of microscale objects or weak force with ultrahigh sensitivity (down to nanogram/piconewton level) and compact configuration is highly desired for fundamental research and applications in various disciplines. Here, by using freestanding gold flakes with high reflectivity (≈98% at 980 nm) as the sample tray and silica microfibers with extremely low spring constant (≈0.05 mN m) as the cantilever beams, miniature capacitive balances are reported with piconewton-level detection limit (picobalances) and reliable radiation force-based calibration.

Type III collagen, a fundamental constituent of the extracellular matrix (ECM), is extensively utilized across the biomedicine, tissue engineering, and cosmetic industries because of its exceptional biocompatibility and biodegradability. Despite its widespread application, traditional methods of collagen production are often hindered by the limit yield, potential immunogenicity, and batch-to-batch variability. In the present study, we describe a synthetic biological approach for expressing full-length recombinant type III collagen (RCIII) in the Komagataella phaffii system.

The production of storable hydrogen fuel through water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources such as solar, marine, geothermal, and wind energy presents a promising pathway toward achieving energy sustainability. Nevertheless, state-of-the-art electrolysis requires support from ancillary processes which often incur financial and energy costs. Developing electrolysers capable of directly operating with water that contains impurities can circumvent these processes.

We propose and demonstrate the simulation and fabrication of an all-fiber orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode converter capable of generating first- to fourth-order modes simultaneously, which is realized by inscribing a cascaded preset-twist long-period fiber grating (CPT-LPFG) in a six-mode fiber utilizing a CO laser. A new segmented Runge-Kutta method is proposed to simulate the preset-twist long-period fiber gratings. By calculating the twist angle and relative coupling coefficient for each pitch and then solving the coupled mode equations utilizing the Runge-Kutta algorithm.

Many instrumental quantifications for heavy metals require the establishment of the calibration curve between calibrator's signals and mass concentrations based on linear regression model. However, linear fitting based on the ordinary least squares regression model faces the challenges from the instruments, such as homoscedasticity of signals, which may result in the poor performance for the measurement of low mass concentration. In comparison, the linear weighted regression model in many studies has been proven to better address the problem of heteroscedasticity in inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP-OES).

It is well documented that immunosuppression in chickens increases the risk of secondary infections and immunodeficiencies, resulting in significant financial setbacks for the poultry sector. It is crucial to determine if polysaccharide (LBP) can counteract immune suppression in young chickens, considering its known ability to modulate immune responses. The aim of this study was to investigate the antagonistic effect and mechanism of LBP on immunosuppression in chicks.

Plant cell surface-localized pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) recognize microbial patterns and activate pattern-triggered immunity (PTI). Typical PTI responses include reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst controlled by the NADPH oxidase RESPIRATORY BURST OXIDASE HOMOLOG D (RbohD) and activation of the MAP kinase (MAPK) cascade composed of MAPKKK3/5-MKK4/5-MPK3/6. However, the mechanisms through which PRRs regulate and coordinate these immune responses are not fully understood.
