Article Synopsis
  • Alpha-mangostin (AM), derived from the Purple Mangosteen, shows potential in breast cancer treatment and is believed to interact with the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), but no direct binding studies had been conducted until this research.* -
  • This study used iodine-125 labeled AM to explore its binding to ERα in lab-grown breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and demonstrated that AM and tamoxifen can inhibit its uptake, indicating that AM's uptake involves ERα.* -
  • The injected labeled AM was found to accumulate in tumors in mice, but some of the iodine-125 was lost during the process, highlighting the need for further research to improve retention and effectiveness as a breast cancer treatment

Article Synopsis
  • - Chemotherapy-induced mucositis can significantly harm pediatric cancer patients by causing oral inflammation, leading to financial strains, reduced quality of life, and potentially lower survival rates; effective oral care is essential to manage these symptoms.
  • - A systematic review analyzed studies from 2014 to 2023 that explored oral care interventions for mucositis in children, employing rigorous appraisal methods to ensure the quality of the findings.
  • - Eight studies indicated that interventions like tooth brushing and use of natural products (honey, olive oil, Aloe Vera) may alleviate mucositis symptoms, but the overall improvement in children's quality of life was not significant, while some products (Caphosol) showed no benefits.

Introduction: With increased life expectancy among older adults in Malaysia, there is an increasing number of years of living after retirement. The role and lifestyle changes can significantly affect time use and participation in everyday life, influencing individuals' quality of life (QoL) and wellbeing. However, limited research has examined the healthrelated QoL and its relationship with time use, role participation and perceived social support among retirees in Malaysia.

Introduction: There is a global increase in the ageing population, and Malaysia is expected to become an ageing country. As elderly individuals experience deterioration in physical and cognitive functions, they often require longterm care from caregivers. This study aims to investigate the reasons why caregivers provide care for older adults at home.

Oxidative stress accumulation becomes a pathophysiological factor in diabetic neuropathy (DN), activating TRPV-1. Resveratrol in cocoa pod husk exhibits antioxidant activity that could be beneficial in DN. This study examined how the ethanol extract of cocoa pod husk (EECPH) affects DN in mice by targeting TRPV-1.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the resurgence of SARS-CoV-2 was due to the development of novel variants of concern (VOC). Thus, genomic surveillance is essential to monitor continuing evolution of SARS-CoV-2 and to track the emergence of novel variants. In this study, we performed phylogenetic, mutation, and selection pressure analyses of the Spike, nsp12, nsp3, and nsp5 genes of SARS-CoV-2 isolates circulating in Yogyakarta and Central Java provinces, Indonesia from May 2021 to February 2022.

The high rate of incidence and mortality caused by breast cancer encourage urgent research to immediately develop new diagnostic and therapeutic agents for breast cancer. Alpha mangostin (AM) is a natural compound reported to have anti-breast cancer properties. Its electron-donating groups structure allows it to be labeled with an iodine-131 radioisotope to develop a candidate of a diagnostic and therapeutic agent for breast cancer.

Alpha mangostin (AM), the main xanthone derivative contained in mangosteen pericarp (/GM), has many pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, antiproliferation, antiinflammatory, and anticancer. Several general toxicity studies of AM have been previously reported to assess the safety profile of AM. Toxicity studies were carried out by various methods such as on test animals, interventions, and various routes of administration, but the test results have not been well documented.

Scholars and policy-makers agree that cross-border and multi-sector cooperation are essential components of coordinated efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 infections. This paper examines the responses of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nation) member countries to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the limits of regional cooperation. ASEAN has pre-existing cooperative frameworks in place, including regional health security measures, which, at least theoretically, could assist the region's efforts to formulate cooperative responses to containing a global pandemic.

Background: Breastfeeding and wet nursing have been synonymous since ancient times. The practice of wet nursing of another woman's child in Malaysia is on the rise due to the emergence of awareness among the public about the importance and advantages of breast milk. However, problems arise when there is no systematic system to record and trace the milk mother and milk child data, especially for Muslim participants as milk kinship could affect their relationship status in Islam.

Nanoplatforms have been used extensively as advanced carriers to enhance the effectiveness of drug delivery, mostly through passive aggregation provided by the enhanced permeability and retention effect. Mechanical stimuli provide a robust strategy to bolster drug delivery performance by increasing the accumulation of nanoplatforms at the lesion sites, facilitating on-demand cargo release and providing theranostic aims. In this review, we focus on recent advances of mechanoresponsive nanoplatforms that can accomplish targeted drug delivery, and subsequent drug release, under specific stimuli, either endogenous (shear stress) or exogenous (magnetic field and ultrasound), to synergistically combat atherosclerosis at the molecular level.
