The paper describes a case of a long-lasting chronic migrant erythema (ME) in an 82-year-old female, which developed after the bite of an insect (a tick?). The specific feature of this case is an unusual duration (2 years) of a single focus of ME and autopsy of the skin revealed giant cells with centrally arranged 3-5 nuclei and cytoplam with PAS-positive inclusions as tiny (5 m) oblong formations, that may be Borelia.

Changes in the isoform composition of the elastic protein titin from skeletal and cardiac muscles of hibernating ground squirrels were revealed for the first time. It was shown that, upon hibernation, the molecular mass of titin decreases and its functional properties change as compared with the active state of the animal. The physiological significance of the changes in titin isoform composition for the inhibition of muscle contractile activity upon hibernation is discussed in connection with similar changes during some cardiomyopathies.

Effect were studied of a dosed chest compression on the arterial pressure (AP) in stage I-II hypertensive disease. AP was recorded at all procedures, during the whole time the respective procedure was being conducted and during five days following the course of treatment. A significant hypotensive effect was recordable in the wake of chest compression.

A new method of therapy of children with cerebral palsy (CP) has been elaborated. Transitory consequent action of weak bipolar low-frequency current (30-100 mcA, 2-10 Hz) on different levels of motor activity regulation (brain and spinal cord, effectory organs) resulted in a stable correction of both motor and other types of disorders in CP patients. Therapeutic course included 2-8 procedures, 1-2 weekly, their duration 3-5 minutes.

We have been studying peculiarities of vegetative provision of mental activity with different level of difficulty. It was revealed that efficiency of mental activity of children from junior school depends on the difficulty of the given visual information and vegetative provision. It was proved that children from junior school had the highest level of mental activity with easiest tasks, but vegetative provision was minimal.

The data on the study of the spread of HIV infection among injecting drug users in St. Petersburg, carried out by the method of the random testing of blood remaining in used syringes, are presented. Injecting drug users visiting buses working in accordance with the program "Buses for Assistance to Drug Addicts" were chosen as a study group.

The specific features of the epidemiological situation in St. Petersburg at the first stage (1987-1995) and the second stage (1986-1999) of the development of HIV infection are described. During this period morbidity in HIV infection, starting from the insignificant rate of growth, sharply increased.

The fatty acid composition of vacuolar membrane lipids from plant storage tissues and their genesis have been studied. A high content of unsaturated fatty acids (up to 77%) was observed in lipids of these membranes. Linoleic acid prevailed in vacuolar lipids of carrot and red beet (54.

The objective of this study was to determine the schedule of the arrival of the axons from the hypothalamus to the posterior lobe of the pituitary (PL) in rats during ontogenesis by using the fluorescent lipophilic carbocyanine dye 1,1'-dioctadecyl-3,3,3', 3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine perchlorate (DiI) as a retrograde tracer. After preliminary fixation of the brain, DiI crystals were implanted in the PL on embryonic day 15 (E15), E16, E17, and E19 as well as on postnatal day 2 (P2) and P9. This was followed by a DiI retrograde diffusion along the plasma membrane and subsequent staining of hypothalamic neuronal cell bodies.

The age dynamics of attention's function and its correlation with functional mobility of nervous processes at adults in age from 21 to 74 years old were studied. It was determined that this period of ontogenesis characterized gradual and irregular determination this function. It was revealed that mean exponents of attention's qualities and peculiarities its age dynamics depended from individual-typological properties of nervous system et adults and old men.

The influence of biostimulators of vegetative origin, such as aloes and biotritis, on the process of lipid peroxidation in parodontium tissues, was studied. Biotritis has a more considerable parodontoprotective effect than aloes.

Balneotherapy was given to 113 patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD) with stable angina (functional class I and II). 40 patients and 43 patients took radon baths (40 nCi/l and 120 nCi/l, respectively), 30 patients took the course of fresh-water baths. Treatment results were assessed at spiroveloergometry and ambulatory Holter monitoring.

The authors describe a methodological approach to emission spectral analysis of material evidences aimed at evaluating the regularities of deposition of the shot metals at the site of injuries inflicted by gas guns. Injuries inflicted by gunshots with chemical cartridges and with shot cartridges, with and without obstructions, from different distances have been examined. The detected regularities may be useful in forensic medical expert evaluations by means of emission spectral analysis in cases with gas gunshots.

To elucidate the antibody-(2'-5')oligoadenylate relation to the mode of the hapten-immunogen conjugation, a new (2'-5')oligoadenylic acid trimer derivative containing a 2'-terminal N6-(5-carboxypentyl)adenosine and its 125I-labeled immunogenic conjugate were synthesized. The immunization with this conjugate and with a conjugate based on the 2',3'-O-[1-(2-carboxyethyl)]ethylidene derivative of the (2'-5')triadenylic acid gave antisera with different affinities toward modified (2'-5')oligonucleotides. Epitopes involved in the (2'-5')oligomer-binding to different antisera were found.

The method of topological description of former nuclear tests in demonstrated in this paper. The information about the field is extracted from the topology of 2D crossections of 3D surfaces constructed on experimental data. The complexity of izolines' system for each cross section in estimated by algebraic sum of contours bounded the areas where the field is higher then the given level.

The development of projections of the hypothalamic nuclei into the posterior lobe of the pituitary was studied on the fixed brain of rat fetuses from day 15 until day 19 of embryogenesis using retrograde staining with the fluorescent carbocyanine dye DiI. The formation of connections of the supraoptic and retrochiasmatic nuclei of the hypothalamus with the posterior lobe of the pituitary takes place during prenatal development on days 15 and 16-17, respectively, while only an insignificant number of the paraventricular nucleus neurons send their axons to the posterior lobe of the pituitary in rat fetuses. These facts suggest different temporal involvement of the above nuclei in formation of the hypothalamic-hypophysial neurosecretory system in rat fetuses.
