DNA damage in cells induces the expression of inflammatory genes. However, the mechanism by which cells initiate an innate immune response in the presence of DNA lesions blocking transcription remains unknown. Here we find that genotoxic stresses lead to an acute activation of the transcription factor NF-κB through two distinct pathways, each triggered by different types of DNA lesions and coordinated by either ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) or IRAK1 kinases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on detecting multijet signatures from proton-proton collisions at a high energy of 13 TeV, analyzing a dataset totaling 128 fb^{-1}.
  • A special data scouting method is utilized to pick out events with low combined momentum in jets.
  • This research is pioneering in its investigation of electroweak particle production in R-parity violating supersymmetric models, particularly examining hadronically decaying mass-degenerate higgsinos, and it broadens the limits on the existence of R-parity violating top squarks and gluinos.

The study evaluated the effects of conventional pasteurization and ohmic heating (OH) at different electric fields (12, 16, 20, or 24 V/cm) on probiotic chocolate dairy desserts' physicochemical, microbiological, sensory properties and volatile profiles. Both treatments were analyzed for parameters such as pH, syneresis, cream stability index, rheology, bioactive compounds (total phenolics and antioxidant capacity), and probiotic viability (Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-05) over a 28-day storage period. Ohmic heating at higher electric fields (20 and 24 V/cm) showed comparable results to pasteurization for most parameters, with non-significant differences or even higher values for some.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Background: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has proven to reliably stage the clinically negative neck in early-stage oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The 10%-rule, used to define sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) intraoperatively, states that an SLN is defined by gamma counts that are at least 10% of the hottest harvested lymph node (LN). However, this intraoperative rule has not yet been adequately evaluated for early-stage OSCC.

The cyclononatetraenyl (Cnt) ligand is a large monoanionic ligand. It is easily synthesized by ring expansion after cyclopropanation of the cyclooctatetraenyl (Cot) ligand. The Cnt ligand can be reported as the --- () isomer, where the aromatic ring is flat, and all carbon atoms form a homogenous ring, and as the --- () isomer, where one carbon places itself inside the ring.

Diet is a robust entrainment cue that regulates diurnal rhythms of the gut microbiome. We and others have shown that disruption of the circadian clock drives the progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). While certain bacterial species have been suggested to play driver roles in CRC, it is unknown whether the intestinal clock impinges on the microbiome to accelerate CRC pathogenesis.

Background: In lung transplant patients, direct oral anticoagulants are often taken in combination with immunosuppressive drugs such as tacrolimus. Since tacrolimus is a substrate and inhibitor of the efflux protein ABCB1, also transporting direct oral anticoagulants, a possible drug-drug interaction mediated by competition for this transporter needs to be investigated.

Objectives: To determine the effect of tacrolimus on ABCB1-mediated rivaroxaban transport in order to support clinician practice.
