Genome stability is significantly influenced by the precise coordination of chromatin complexes that facilitate the loading and eviction of histones from chromatin during replication, transcription, and DNA repair processes. In this study, we investigate the role of the Arabidopsis H3 histone chaperones ANTI-SILENCING FUNCTION 1 (ASF1) and HISTONE REGULATOR A (HIRA) in the maintenance of telomeres and 45S rDNA loci, genomic sites that are particularly susceptible to changes in the chromatin structure. We find that both ASF1 and HIRA are essential for telomere length regulation, as telomeres are significantly shorter in asf1a1b and hira mutants.

Sjögren's Disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disease of the exocrine tissues. Etiological events result in the loss of epithelial homeostasis alongside extracellular matrix (ECM) destruction within the salivary and lacrimal glands, followed by immune cell infiltration. In this review, we have assessed the current understanding of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-associated changes within the salivary epithelium potentially involved in salivary dysfunction and SjD pathogenesis.

The study of trophic niche partitioning is of great importance for understanding community structure and species coexistence, particularly if these are threatened. Here DNA metabarcoding was used to assess the diet of four threatened steppe bird species (two bustards and two sandgrouses), with the aim of better understanding their dietary requirements, trophic interactions, and potential threats. The results showed seasonal and interspecific differences in their plant diet, with greater importance of cultivated plants during autumn and winter (around 50 % of their diet) than spring.

Our goal was to investigate the effects of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and interferons (IFNs) on signal transducer and activator of transcription STAT1 and STAT4 mRNA and active phosphorylated protein expression in Sjögren's syndrome cell culture models. iSGECs (immortalized salivary gland epithelial cells) and A253 cells were treated with EGF, IFN-alpha, -beta, -gamma, or mitogen-activated protein kinase p38 alpha (p38-MAPK) inhibitor for 0-24-48-72 h. STAT1 and STAT4 mRNA expression was quantified by qRT-PCR.

Triazole fungicides are widely used to treat cereal seeds before sowing. Granivorous birds like the Red-legged Partridge (Alectoris rufa) have high exposure risk because they ingest treated seeds that remain on the field surface. As triazole fungicides can act as endocrine disruptors, affecting sterol synthesis and reproduction in birds several months after exposure, we hypothesized that these effects could also impact subsequent generations of exposed birds.

Introduction: is a highly infectious bacterium that causes the zoonotic disease tularemia. The development of genotyping methods, especially those based on whole-genome sequencing (WGS), has recently increased the knowledge on the epidemiology of this disease. However, due to the difficulties associated with the growth and isolation of this fastidious pathogen in culture, the availability of strains and subsequently WGS data is still limited.

Background: The common vole has invaded the agroecosystems of northwestern Spain, where outbreaks cause important crop damage and management costs. Little is yet known about the factors causing or modulating vole fluctuations. Here, we used 11 years of vole abundance monitoring data in 40 sites to study density-dependence and weather influence on vole dynamics.

Isomers close to doubly magic _{28}^{78}Ni_{50} provide essential information on the shell evolution and shape coexistence near the Z=28 and N=50 double shell closure. We report the excitation energy measurement of the 1/2^{+} isomer in _{30}^{79}Zn_{49} through independent high-precision mass measurements with the JYFLTRAP double Penning trap and with the ISOLTRAP multi-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer. We unambiguously place the 1/2^{+} isomer at 942(10) keV, slightly below the 5/2^{+} state at 983(3) keV.

Seed treatment with pesticides is an extended agricultural practice with a high risk to granivorous birds that consume those seeds. To characterize that risk, it is necessary to understand the ecological factors that determine the exposure chances of birds to treated seeds. We investigated how pesticide uptake by red-legged partridges was related to cultivated plant ingestion and to the use of recently sown fields.

The theoretical modelling of the atomic exchange effect, until now only available for allowed beta decays, has been extended to the forbidden unique transitions. The required computing power for such calculations being important, an extensive tabulation of the correction factors has been conducted. These tables will be included in the future version of the BetaShape code, which atomic screening has also been revised to ensure the same level of accuracy as for exchange.

Article Synopsis
  • Atomic and nuclear data are crucial for accurate measurements in liquid scintillation, particularly for β-spectrum calculations.
  • This study focuses on standardizing the activity of two β-emitting radionuclides (Co and Ru/Rh) using 4πβ-γ coincidence and TDCR methods.
  • The results indicate that including atomic effects in the β-spectra improves agreement between the two measurement techniques, and a new stochastic model using Geant4 simulations for TDCR calculations is introduced.

The excitation energy of the 1/2^{-} isomer in ^{99}In at N=50 is measured to be 671(37) keV and the mass uncertainty of the 9/2^{+} ground state is significantly reduced using the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer at ISOLDE/CERN. The measurements exploit a major improvement in the resolution of the multireflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The results reveal an intriguing constancy of the 1/2^{-} isomer excitation energies in neutron-deficient indium that persists down to the N=50 shell closure, even when all neutrons are removed from the valence shell.

Recent progress in deep learning (DL) has revived the interest on DL-based computer aided detection or diagnosis (CAD) systems for breast cancer screening. Patch-based approaches are one of the main state-of-the-art techniques for 2D mammogram image classification, but they are intrinsically limited by the choice of patch size, as there is no unique patch size that is adapted to all lesion sizes. In addition, the impact of input image resolution on performance is not yet fully understood.

The use of coercion is a common practice in psychiatry despite its deleterious effects and insufficient evidence of benefits. It is so deeply rooted that the mention of establishments that make little use of it arouses a form of incredulity. However, the history of psychiatry and the international literature provide numerous examples of a psychiatry that is hardly coercive and numerous experiences of a reduction in the use of seclusion and/or restraint in psychiatric facilities.

Article Synopsis
  • - The DarkSide-50 experiment searched for dark matter particles with masses below 1 GeV/c² that interact to produce electrons using a substantial exposure of low-radioactivity liquid argon.
  • - They analyzed the ionization signals to rule out certain interactions between dark matter and electrons, providing new limits on various parameters like the dark matter-electron cross section and other coupling constants.
  • - This study also established the first direct-detection constraints for keV/c² sterile neutrinos, particularly focusing on the mixing angle related to these particles.

Dark matter elastic scattering off nuclei can result in the excitation and ionization of the recoiling atom through the so-called Migdal effect. The energy deposition from the ionization electron adds to the energy deposited by the recoiling nuclear system and allows for the detection of interactions of sub-GeV/c^{2} mass dark matter. We present new constraints for sub-GeV/c^{2} dark matter using the dual-phase liquid argon time projection chamber of the DarkSide-50 experiment with an exposure of (12 306±184)  kg d.
