Eugenol has pharmacological properties, but its impact on renal function is limitedly studied. Thus, this study evaluated the effects of eugenol at 10, 20, and 40 mg Kg, administered via gavage for 60 days, on histological, biochemical, oxidative, and proteomic parameters in rat kidneys. Adult Wistar rats treated with 10 mg Kg of eugenol had kidneys with low total antioxidant capacity, high nitric oxide content, and high percentual of blood vessels, with no damage to renal function or morphology.

We report a case of a 48-year-old male smoker with a past medical history of diabetes, emphysema, recurrent respiratory infections, a worsening productive cough, and increased oxygen requirement over the past 3 months. Often described in the pediatric population, it is important to maintain plastic bronchitis in the differential when considering unresolving pulmonary conditions with chronic sputum production.

Prehospital management of exertional heat stroke (EHS) consists of monitoring rectal temperature (T) while aggressively cooling via cold water immersion. Recent recommendations suggest using central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction to determine cessation of cooling when T is not available. We examined cognitive responses of two runners with EHS after a road race.

Constitutional variants in the RB1 gene predispose individuals to the development of Retinoblastoma (RB) and the occurrence of second tumors in adulthood. Detection of causal RB1 gene variants is essential to establish the genetic diagnosis and to performing familial studies and counseling. In our cohort of 579 Spanish RB patients, 15% of cases suspected to have a genetic origin remained negative after traditional Sanger sequencing and Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA) of RB1 gene, likely due to the possibility of mosaicism or non-coding variants.
