Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

These fish, through their electric organ, generate low-intensity electric fields to navigate and interact with conspecifics, even in complete darkness. The brown ghost knifefish is appealing as a study subject due to a rich electric 'vocabulary', made by individually variable and sex-specific electric signals.

Methods: We queried our institutional registry for ccRCC patients undergoing radical nephrectomy (1970-2019). Cox proportional hazards regression models, adjusting for factors associated with ccRCC progression, were used to determine whether VTT was associated with pulmonary metastases.
Malaria continues to pose a significant burden on populations in endemic areas and requires innovative treatment options. Here, we report the synthesis and preclinical evaluation of the novel 3-hydroxypropanamidine (HPA) , which shows excellent antiplasmodial activity against drug-sensitive and -resistant strains. Moreover, in various human cell lines, the compound shows no cytotoxicity and excellent parasite selectivity.

Aim: We aim to investigate the effects of stroke size on early repair patterns and determine how early changes in neuronal circuits and networks predict functional outcomes after stroke.
Sea ice is a key element of the global Earth system, with a major impact on global climate and regional weather. Unfortunately, accurate sea ice modeling is challenging due to the diversity and complexity of underlying physics happening there, and a relative lack of ground truth observations. This is especially true for the Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ), which is the area where sea ice is affected by incoming ocean waves.

The aim of this exploratory study was to investigate factors associated with trial interest in males at different stages of recruitment and overall, into a multi-site behavioral trial targeting lifestyle change and remission of the metabolic syndrome. Similar analyses were performed for female participation to investigate the uniqueness or consistency with the findings for males.

Metastatic chondrosarcoma has a poor prognosis, and effective systemic therapies are lacking. Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutations represent a potential therapeutic target, but IDH inhibitors alone have shown limited clinical efficacy to date.

Study Design: Historical cohort study.
Setting: Tertiary academic referral center.
Objective: To evaluate cochlear implant speech perception among patients with sporadic inner ear schwannoma who underwent ipsilateral implantation.
Study Design: Retrospective multi-institutional cohort study.
Setting: Eleven tertiary academic medical centers across Germany, Denmark, and the United States.
A uniform solidification front undergoes nontrivial deformations when encountering an insoluble dispersed particle in a melt. For solid particles, the overall deformation characteristics are primarily dictated by heat transfer between the particle and the surrounding, remaining unaffected by the rate of approach of the solidification front. In this Letter we show that, conversely, when interacting with a droplet or a bubble, the deformation behavior exhibits entirely different and unexpected behavior.

Integral solvent-induced protein precipitation (iSPP) is a quantitative mass spectrometry-based (LC-MS/MS) proteomics technique. The iSPP leverages the change in solvent-induced denaturation of the drug-bound protein relative to its unbound state, allowing identification of the direct drug-protein target without the need to modify the drug.

Study Design: Retrospective chart review.
Patients: Ten patients from one institution with sporadic vestibular schwannomas that demonstrated medial migration toward the cerebellopontine angle on serial imaging were reviewed.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a serious threat to global health. The rapid emergence of resistance contrasts with the slow pace of antimicrobial development, emphasizing the urgent need for innovative drug discovery approaches. This study addresses a critical bottleneck in early drug development by introducing integral solvent-induced protein precipitation (iSPP) to rapidly assess the target-engagement of lead compounds in extracts of pathogenic microorganisms under close-to-physiological conditions.

The etiology is largely unknown, but in a subset of patients with SPS, monoallelic pathogenic variants in RNF43 are detected. To date, however, the penetrance and phenotypic spectrum of patients carrying pathogenic variants (PV) in RNF43 are poorly described.

Epithelial cell death markers, m30 and m65, correlate with hepatic injury and predict outcomes across various stages of liver disease. We aim (i) to evaluate whether portal hypertension itself contributes to liver outcome-relevant epithelial injury, and (ii) to analyse the capacity of m30/m65 to predict outcome in patients receiving a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) for refractory ascites.
