Background: The objective of this study is to utilize metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) to analyze the risk factors causing negative microbial cultures, comprehensively delineate the microbial profiles neglected by traditional cultures, and optimize the pathogenetic diagnostic procedure accordingly.
Research Design And Methods: We enrolled 341 patients diagnosed with OI at our center between 2016 and 2022, and gathered data including age, gender, clinical diagnosis, duration of antibiotic use prior to sampling, microbial culture results, and mNGS results for these patients. According to microbial detection results, risk factors for negative microbial culture and mNGS results were investigated through univariate and multivariate analyses, and the microbial profile in cases with negative microbial cultures was summarized in conjunction with mNGS results.

Discectomy serves as the primary therapeutic approach for lumbar disc herniation, but the annular fibrosus defects after discectomy may lead to recurrence of disc herniation. Despite recent advances in bioinspired adhesives to seal the AF defect, the growing popularity of endoscopic discectomy has put forward high requirements for the tissue bioadhesives with rapid injectability, easy operation, and robust tissue adhesion in underwater environments. Herein, a rapidly in situ forming injectable tetra-PEG bioadhesive (ISG) comprising of FDA-approved tetra-armed poly (ethylene glycol) amine (tetra-PEG-NH) and tetra-armed poly (ethylene glycol) succinimidyl glutarate (tetra-PEG-SG) for the sutureless closure of AF defects, is reported.

By enabling the end-to-end sequencing of full-length transcripts, long-read RNA-seq opens up avenues for investigating various RNA species and features that cannot be reliably interrogated by standard short-read RNA-seq methods. In this review, we present an overview of long-read RNA-seq, delineating its strengths over short-read RNA-seq, as well as summarizing recent advances in experimental and computational approaches to boost the power of long-read-based transcriptomics.

We explore the ability of methylation profiling to distinguish primary melanoma methylation classes and their associations with clinicopathologic characteristics and survival.
Materials And Methods: InterMEL is a retrospective case-control study that assembled primary cutaneous melanomas from American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th edition stage II and III patients diagnosed between 1998 and 2015 in the United States and Australia.

Antibiotic resistance is an increasingly concerned hotspot of human health. Microbial determinants that may affect the profiles of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the environments need be explored. Here, sediment cores in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE) were analyzed using metagenomic approaches.

This study introduces a novel classification system to guide the selection of femoral prostheses in hip arthroplasty (HA) and validates its clinical efficacy.
Methods: Retrospectively, we analyzed 108 cases from three university-affiliated hospitals between December 2012 and February 2023 involving patients who underwent hip arthroplasty due to Failed Internal Fixation of Intertrochanteric Fractures (FIF-ITF).
Objective: Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) is an obstacle to the success of cardiac reperfusion therapy. This study explores whether luteolin can mitigate MIRI by regulating the p53 signaling pathway.
Methods: Model mice were subjected to a temporary surgical ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery, and administered luteolin.
This study investigates the relationship between modifiable risk factors and dementia subtypes using data from 460,799 participants in the UK Biobank. Utilizing univariate Cox proportional hazards regression models, we examined the associations between 83 modifiable risk factors and the risks of all-cause dementia (ACD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and vascular dementia (VD). Composite scores for different domains were generated by aggregating risk factors associated with ACD, AD, and VD, respectively, and their joint associations were assessed in multivariable Cox models.

Recognizing pressure as a fundamental determinant in CRT measurement is crucial for establishing a standardized CRT measurement procedure. In this preliminary study, we elucidated the optimal pressing strength for CRT measurement by analyzing the CRTs measured under varying pressures.

Here, we showed that conditional knockout of in oocytes impaired macroautophagy/autophagy proficiency in the ovary and interfered with follicular homeostasis and ovary development in mice. Flunarizine treatment upregulated autophagy, thus rescuing the impairment of follicular homeostasis and ovarian dysfunction in knockout mice by reprogramming of homeostasis.

However, the regulation of heterogeneous catalytic materials with M-N coupling for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to enhance the degradation efficiency and reusability of antibiotics remains a challenge. In this study, an efficient modulation of M-N coupling was achieved through the incorporation of Cu into CoN to form a Cu-CoN composite with sea urchin-like morphology assembled by numerous nano-needles using hydrothermal and nitriding processes.

Introduction: Inflammatory and thrombotic biomarkers are simple prognostic indicators of adverse clinical outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke (IS). However, isolated assessment of inflammatory or thrombus biomarkers in patients with IS is limited in clinical practice.
Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of a novel, simplified thrombo-inflammatory prognostic score (TIPS) that combines both inflammatory and thrombus biomarkers in the early phase of IS and to identify high-risk patients at the time of admission.

Previous studies have shown that differentiated embryo-chondrocyte expressed gene 1 (DEC1) promotes osteoblast osteogenesis. To investigate the role of DEC1 in postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP), we utilized the two types (DEC1 , DEC1 ) mice to establish an ovariectomy (OVX) model and found that the bone loss in DEC1 OVX mice were much less than that in DEC1 OVX mice. The expression levels of RUNX2 and OSX significantly increased in DEC1 OVX mice compared with those in DEC1 OVX mice.
