Recent work showed that contrary to conventional wisdom, fine surface engineered excipients outperform their larger counterparts in blends of highly loaded blends of cohesive drug powders in terms of their packing, flowability and tablet tensile strength. Here, two continuous devices, fluid-energy mill (FEM) and conical mill (Comil), are compared with LabRAM, a batch device used in previous work, for nano-silica dry coating of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) excipients, 20 and 30 μm. Coated MCCs from all three devices had higher bulk densities and flow function coefficients (FFCs) compared with Avicel PH-102.

The poor conversion efficiency of carbon dioxide photoreduction has hindered the practical application at present, and one of the prime reasons for this obstacle is the inefficient solar energy utilization of photocatalysts. Generally speaking, it is contradictory for a photocatalyst to concurrently possess the broad-spectral response and appropriate band-edge positions for coinstantaneous carbon dioxide reduction and water oxidation. In this Outlook, we summarize a series of strategies for realizing visible-light and IR-light-driven carbon dioxide photoreduction under the guarantee of suitable band-edge positions.

Scope: The development of novel compounds that trigger non-apoptotic cell death may represent alternative therapeutic strategies for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) treatment. Cellular senescence suppresses tumorigenesis by halting the proliferation of tumor cells, implying the induction of senescence as a promising anticancer strategy, especially when combined with senolytic agents that specially kill senescent cells. In situ electrochemical techniques and surface analysis were used to investigate the weathering behavior of arsenopyrite in chlorine-containing brine. Cyclic voltammetry measurements showed that arsenopyrite weathering releases S°, As (III) and Fe (II) during the initial step, even contains different concentrations of H and Cl, and terminal transformation into SO, As (V) and Fe (III), respectively. Cl ions promote the arsenopyrite weathering through diffusion control or adsorption control when Cl- ions are at low or high concentrations.

Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) are emerging biomaterials for bone repair/regeneration, considering their favorable pro-osteogenic and proangiogenic activities. To further improve their therapeutic effects, the endowment of MBGNs with additional antioxidant properties is of particular interest to target oxidative stress related to bone remodeling and diseases. To this end, we developed antioxidant cerium-containing MBGNs (Ce-MBGNs) (particle size of 100-300 ​nm) by using a postimpregnation strategy to incorporate Ce, through which the shape, pore structure, and dispersity of the nanoparticles were preserved.

This article reports a case of paraneoplastic encephalitis and enteric neuropathy associated with anti-Hu antibody in a patient with advanced small cell lung cancer.
