Drug resistance is a major obstacle in cancer treatment. Herein, four novel organometallic complexes, with the general formula [Ru(η--cymene)(HL)Cl]Cl and [Rh(η-CMe)(HL)Cl]Cl, were developed to target multidrug-resistant (MDR) cancer cells, where HL denotes 8-hydroxyquinoline-derived Mannich bases (HQCl-pyr and HQCl-pip). The aim of the complexation was to obtain compounds with improved drug-like properties.

When facing these challenges households use a variety of coping mechanisms that could pose a risk to health. We aimed to understand the drivers of water insecurity (climate and non-climate), the behavioural responses to water insecurity and the risks these responses pose to the health of communities in rural Gambia and map these findings onto a conceptual framework.

Individual differences in their genetics often affect how they cope with these challenges, as reflected in their high performances. Olympic Medalists are prohibited from providing atypical values in the Hematological Module of the Athlete Biological Passport.

Biosynthesis of plant secondary metabolites-including essential oils-is a vital plant defense mechanism. As these bioactive compounds are widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries, it is essential to understand how their production is affected in various environments.

Methodology/principal Findings: We used molecular blood meal analysis to reveal feeding patterns of the bat-associated tick species Ixodes ariadnae, I. simplex, and I.
Risks to older adults (OA) (aged 65+ years) associated with hot and cold weather in the UK are well-documented. The study aim is to explore OA perception of health risks from high and low temperatures, health-protective measures undertaken, and implications for public health messaging. In 2019/20, Ipsos MORI conducted face-to-face surveys with OA in England (n = 461 cold weather survey, n = 452 hot weather survey).

In this regard, it is well known that the binding sites for non-noble metals play a pivotal role in facilitating efficient catalysis. Herein, we studied Fe(II) complexes with bidentate 2-(2'-pyridyl)benzoxazole (LO), 2-(2'-pyridyl)benzthiazole (LS), 2-(2'-pyridyl)benzimidazole (LNH), and 2-2'-bipyridyl (Lpy) ligands - by adding trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) to their acetonitrile solution - in order to examine how their reactivity towards protons under reductive conditions could be impacted by the non-coordinating heteroatoms (S, O, N, or none).

In Ulaanbaatar roughly 60 % of the population live in traditional Mongolian yurts in the so-called Ger districts of the city. Winter indoor air quality is a serious concern in these districts as about 98 % of households consume solid fossil fuel (mainly coal). In our study, indoor air quality was assessed based on PAHs analysis and ecotoxicity testing of 24-hour samples collected in 4 yurts.

Limited studies have attempted to explore these associations in low-polluted areas. In this study, we aimed to assess the association between short-term exposure to ambient air pollution and preterm birth in Sweden.

Climate change is increasing both seasonal temperatures and the frequency and severity of heat extremes. As the endocrine system facilitates physiological adaptations to temperature changes, diseases with an endocrinological basis have the potential to affect thermoregulation and increase the risk of heat injury. The effect of climate change and associated high temperature exposure on endocrine axis development and function, and on the prevalence and severity of diseases associated with hormone deficiency or excess, is unclear.

Methods: Single-center retrospective study. Patient's demographic and clinical outcomes data were prospectively collected.
Cooking is a significant source of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) emissions in indoor environments. A one-month biomonitoring study was carried out in previously selected rural Hungarian kitchens to evaluate cooking-related PAHs concentrations in 4 common kitchen vegetables such as basil, parsley, rocket and chives. The study had two mainobjectives: firstly, to follow PAHs accumulation pattern and to find out if this pattern can be associated with different cooking habits.

Extreme weather events (EWE) disrupt infrastructure and access to medical services, however little is known about their impact on the health of women during pregnancy in resource-poor settings.
Objectives: This review aims to examine the current literature on the impact of EWE on maternal health to identify the pathways between EWE and maternal health in low-income and middle-income countries to identify gaps.
Background: Louse flies (Diptera, Hippoboscidae) are important blood-sucking parasites of birds and mammals with a worldwide distribution. The aim of our study was to collect louse flies from birds across multiple sites in Hungary and evaluate the effects of avian traits on louse fly-host relationships.
Methods: Between 2015 and 2022, 237 louse flies were collected from birds at multiple locations in Hungary.
Background: Climate change represents a fundamental threat to human health, with pregnant women and newborns being more susceptible than other populations. In this review, we aimed to describe the current landscape of available epidemiological evidence on key climate risks on maternal and newborn health (MNH).
Methods: We sought to identify published systematic and scoping reviews investigating the impact of different climate hazards and air pollution on MNH outcomes.
The presence of prolonged symptoms after COVID infection worsens the workability and quality of life. 200 adults with long COVID syndrome were enrolled after medical, physical, and mental screening, and were divided into two groups based on their performance. The intervention group (n = 100) received supervised rehabilitation at Department of Pulmonology, Semmelweis University with the registration number 160/2021 between 01/APR/2021-31/DEC/2022, while an age-matched control group (n = 100) received a single check-up.

Traffic-related particulate matter emissions have been considerably reduced due to stringent regulations in Europe. However, emission of diesel-powered vehicles still poses a significant environmental threat, affecting rural ecosystems and agriculture. Several studies have reported that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a group of potentially toxic organic compounds, can accumulate in crops and vegetables.

Adaptation strategies and policies are necessary tools for governments to address the long-term impacts of climate change and enable the health system to respond to current impacts such as extreme weather events. Since 2011 South Africa has national climate change policies and adaptation strategies, yet there is uncertainty about: how these policies and plans are executed; the extent to which health policies include adaptation; and the extent of policy coherence across sectors and governance levels.

In Burkina Faso, like other countries in the Sahel, many women have little protection against exposure to high temperatures, either outside or inside the home or place of work. This paper investigates how women perceive the impacts of heat on their physical and mental health, in addition to their social relationships and economic activities.
