Analysis of Immune-Related Adverse Events of Atezolizumab and Bevacizumab in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Multicentre Cohort Study.

Introduction: Despite the emergence of atezolizumab and bevacizumab (A + B) as standard first-line systemic therapy for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a comprehensive understanding of the clinical significance of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) remains limited. We aimed to assess the impact of irAEs on patients with HCC undergoing A + B treatment.

Methods: This multicentre retrospective study included consecutive patients with HCC who were treated with the A + B regimen from September 2020 to December 2022.

Background: The platelet-to-white blood cell ratio (PWR) is a hematologic marker of the systemic inflammatory response. Recently, the PWR was revealed to have a role as an independent prognostic factor for mortality in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related acute-on-chronic failure (ACLF) and HBV-related liver cirrhosis (LC) with acute decompensation (AD). However, the prognostic role of the PWR still needs to be investigated in LC patients with AD.

Preventive Effect of Residential Green Space on Infantile Atopic Dermatitis Associated with Prenatal Air Pollution Exposure.

Few birth cohort studies have examined the role of traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) in the development of infantile atopic dermatitis (AD), but none have investigated the role of preventive factors such as green spaces. The aim of this study was to investigate whether exposure to nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of <10 μm (PM) during pregnancy is associated with increased risk of development of AD in 6-month-old children and also to examine how this association changes with residential green space. This study used prospective data from 659 participants of the Mothers and Children's Environmental Health study.

A Geometric Particle Filter for Template-Based Visual Tracking.

Existing approaches to template-based visual tracking, in which the objective is to continuously estimate the spatial transformation parameters of an object template over video frames, have primarily been based on deterministic optimization, which as is well-known can result in convergence to local optima. To overcome this limitation of the deterministic optimization approach, in this paper we present a novel particle filtering approach to template-based visual tracking. We formulate the problem as a particle filtering problem on matrix Lie groups, specifically the three-dimensional Special Linear group SL(3) and the two-dimensional affine group Aff(2).

Several studies reported that there were the associations between the genetic polymorphisms in the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and some blood iron markers. Thus, we tried to investigate the relationship between two genetic polymorphisms (5178C/A and 16189T/C) in the mtDNA and several blood iron markers in Korean men. A total of unrelated 131 Korean men were participated in this study.

Severe thrombocytopenia before liver transplantation is associated with delayed recovery of thrombocytopenia regardless of donor type.

Aim: To compare the recovery of thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly during long-term follow-up after liver transplantation in patients receiving a living donor transplant or a cadaveric donor transplant.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of 216 consecutive liver transplant patients who survived for > 6 mo after transplantation; 169 received a liver transplant from a living donor and 47 from a cadaveric donor. The platelet counts or spleen volumes were examined before transplant, 1, 6, and 12 mo after transplant, and then annually until 5 years after transplant.

Natural movement generation using hidden Markov models and principal components.

Recent studies have shown that the perception of natural movements-in the sense of being "humanlike"-depends on both joint and task space characteristics of the movement. This paper proposes a movement generation framework that merges two established techniques from gesture recognition and motion generation-hidden Markov models (HMMs) and principal components-into an efficient and reliable means of generating natural movements, which uniformly considers joint and task space characteristics. Given human motion data that are classified into several movement categories, for each category, the principal components extracted from the joint trajectories are used as basis elements.

Development of anuria after appendectomy in a patient with a distal ureteral stone in a single kidney.

The development of anuria after appendectomy is usually related to complications associated with appendicitis or with the surgical sequelae of appendectomy. We report an unusual case of anuria after appendectomy in a 20-year-old woman. The patient was transferred to our hospital due to a sudden cessation of urine output just after appendectomy.
