Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a serious parasitic infectious disease that is highly invasive and destructive to the liver and has a high mortality rate. However, currently, there is no effective targeted imaging and treatment method for the precise detection and therapy of AE. We proposed a new two-step targeting strategy (TSTS) for AE based on poly(lactic--glycolic acid) (PLGA).

Article Synopsis
  • Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a major cause of death from cardiovascular issues, and current treatments are limited; this study explores the effects of columbianadin (CBN) on AMI and its mechanisms.
  • Researchers used a network pharmacology analysis and a mouse model of AMI, demonstrating that CBN significantly reduced heart damage and improved mitochondrial function while inhibiting autophagy in stressed heart cells.
  • CBN modulates important signaling pathways, specifically the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, enhancing cell survival and regulating key proteins involved in autophagy, indicating its potential as a protective agent against AMI.

Objective: Lower limb discrepancy (LLD) was frequently observed in patients with idiopathic scoliosis (IS), potentially associated with etiopathogenesis. Although sole lifts had been proposed as a conservative treatment for IS, evidence supporting their efficacy was limited. This study aimed to assess the effects of sole lift intervention on pediatric patients with mild IS, specifically focusing on thoracolumbar/lumbar (TL/L) curvature.

In this study, three different materials were prepared: dendritic fiber-type silica (KCC-1), zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), and a new composite material called KCC-1@ZIF-8. These materials were synthesized using microemulsion, stirring, and coating methods, respectively. The properties of the materials were characterized using various techniques such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), TGA and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Background: Managing adult degenerative lumbar scoliosis (ADLS) presents a complex challenge, requiring advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate and compare the efficacy and outcomes of oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) and minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) in treating ADLS, with an emphasis on surgical methods, recovery times, and spinal correction results.

Methods: We reviewed 42 patients with ADLS who did not respond to conservative treatments.

Objective: To evaluate the analgesic effects of total flavonoids of Longxuejie () (TFDB) and explore the possible analgesic mechanism associated with transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1).

Methods: Whole-cell patch clamp technique was used to observe the effects of TFDB on capsaicin-induced TRPV1 currents. Rat experiments were used to observe the analgesic effects of TFDB.

The repair of bone defects remains a major challenge in the clinic, and treatment requires bone grafts or bone replacement materials. Existing biomaterials have many limitations and cannot meet the various needs of clinical applications. To treat bone defects, we constructed a nanohydroxyapatite (nHA)/methylacrylylated silk fibroin (MASF) composite biological scaffold using photocurable 3D printing technology.

Background: Autism is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by social interaction deficits, impairments in communication, and restricted and repetitive stereotyped behavior and activities. Family and twin studies suggested an essential role of genetic factors in the etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Also, other studies found and () might be involved in brain development and susceptible to ASD.

M1 macrophage-mediated excessive inflammatory response plays a key role in the onset and progression of acute pancreatitis (AP), and this study aimed to investigate the role and underlying mechanisms by which the macrophage polarization-related long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) MM2P participated in the regulation of AP progression. By performing quantitative reverse-transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) assay, lncRNA MM2P was found to be downregulated in both sodium taurocholate-induced AP model mice tissues and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, and gain-of-function experiments confirmed that overexpression of lncRNA MM2P counteracted inflammatory responses, reduced macrophage infiltration and facilitated M1-to-M2 transformation of macrophages to ameliorate AP development in vitro and in vivo.

A liquid-cooled garment with active cooling function can make up for deficiency of the human thermoregulatory system and passive thermal insulation of the firefighting protective suit. Fabrics treated at different inlet temperatures and pipeline intervals were applied in multilayered liquid-cooled fabric assemblies (LCFAs). The heat absorbed by the skin and the second-degree burn time were evaluated by the stored energy test under low heat radiation.

Background: During the fight against COVID-19, China's public hospitals played the main role in taking on the most urgent, dangerous and arduous medical treatment and work. Therefore, in order to promote the high-quality development of hospitals, it is necessary to support some potential public hospitals to build and develop a "One Hospital with Multiple Campuses System" (OHMC) based on controlling the size of single hospitals, and to quickly convert their functions in the event of a severe epidemic.

Methods: The Cobb-Douglas production function and log-transformed production function were used to measure the appropriate hospital size for 22 public hospitals in a region of China.

There are three traditional surgical approaches to hemiarthroplasty (HA) for femoral neck fractures, respectively, the anterior approach (AA), the lateral approach (LA) and the posterior approach (PA). However, the optimum approach is still controversial, the purpose of this meta-analysis is to identify the merits and demerits of all three approaches. All clinical published studies in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library from January 2000 to April 2022 were searched which compared different surgical approaches and covered surgery-related outcomes and frequent complications.

Background: The Achilles tendon is the strongest tendon in the human body, although it is also prone to injury and rupture. Currently, the best treatment method for acute Achilles tendon rupture remains controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of the Ma-Griffith method combined with a minimally invasive small incision (M-G/MISI) with the modified suture technique (MST).

Colonoscopy is an effective method for screening colorectal cancer and adenoma, but the adenoma detection rate depends on the quality of bowel preparation. Our study investigates the influencing factors of the quality of bowel preparation before colonoscopy in outpatients and the influence of the number of walking steps on the quality of bowel preparation. We prospectively collected the clinical data of 150 outpatients undergoing colonoscopy in our department in 2019.
