The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) for patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and analyse the factors influencing prognosis. The clinical data of 67 patients with DLBCL received auto-HSCT from 1996 to 2011 and cumulative overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), transplant-related mortality (TRM), and relapse rate were retrospectively analyzed. The results showed that the median follow-up time was 40 months after transplantation.

Altered arginine metabolism has been implicated in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. The present study measured the levels of L-arginine and its downstream metabolites in the sub-regions of the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex and cerebellum in adult rats that had been exposed to maternal immune activation (MIA; a risk factor for schizophrenia). MIA significantly increased L-arginine, L-ornithine and putrescine levels and decreased agmatine levels in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex in a region-specific manner.

Background: With a well-developed strategy of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) prophylaxis, the prognosis of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) recipients who develop aGVHD has improved considerably. Meanwhile, transfusion-associated GVHD (TA-GVHD) can be fatal. Recent advancements in immune cellular therapy are being adopted in clinical practice, although many concerns including TA-GVHD remain.

In order to study the epidemiological characteristics of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) recipients by means of plasma real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR), 141 adult patients undergoing allo-HSCT between January 2008 and June 2010 were serially monitored by RQ-PCR for detecting CMV and guiding the preemptive therapy followed up to 180 days post-HSCT. The results showed that the incidence of CMV infection and CMV pneumonia was 81.5% and 2.

Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), characterized by great heterogeneity in clinical manifestations and molecular genetics. This study was aimed to explore the clinical significance of applying multiplex PCR to detect BCL2/IGH and BCL6/IGH fusion genes in DLBCL. Multiplex PCR was used to detect bone marrow samples from 80 cases of DLBCL.

This study aimed to develop a novel multiplex reverse transcription-nested polymerase chain reaction (RT-nPCR) assay to accurately and effectively detect 10 common gene rearrangements in adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and to examine the clinicopathologic characteristics and other genetic aberrations of patients with ALL expressing different fusion genes. Our RT-nPCR assay had a positive detection rate of 35.15% (90/256) for the 10 fusion genes.

Fracture and intrathoracic displacement of the humeral head is the result of severe high energy trauma and are extremely rare. Because of the exceedingly limited number of cases, appropriate treatment modality remains unclear. Hitherto, we describe a unique case of thoracic aorta injury caused by fragmented humeral head.

Agmatine, decarboxylated arginine, is widely distributed in mammalian brains and is considered as a novel putative neurotransmitter. Recent research demonstrates spatial learning-induced increases in agmatine in memory-related structures at the tissue and presynaptic terminal levels. By using the in vivo microdialysis technique coupled with highly sensitive liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry assay, we investigated dynamic changes of extracellular agmatine in the rat dorsal hippocampus before, during and after water maze training to find a fixed hidden platform on the first and forth day of testing.

Cerebral ischemia induced the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells in discrete regions of brain. However, only a small fraction of the neural stem/progenitor cells survives. In this report, the effects of methylprednisolone (MP) on proliferation, differentiation and survival of neural progenitor cells were explored through early MP administration after occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCAo).

Liposomes loaded with lactosyl-norcantharidin phospholipid complex (LPC) were prepared, in which soybean phosphatidylcholine was used to improve the liposolubility of lactosyl-norcantharidin (Lac-NCTD). The pH-sensitive LPC liposomes (pH-LPC-lips) were obtained by electrostatic adsorption of the carboxymethyl chitosan onto the surface of the liposomes. The in vitro drug release of pH-LPC-lips and LPC-lips was investigated in dissolution media with pH ranging from 1.

Myeloid neoplasms with eosinophilia and abnormalities of PDGFRB gene are a new kind of myeloid disorders in the revised 2008 WHO classification. Out of detected 2000 cases of myeloid cell abnormalities in our hospital, 12 cases of myeloid neoplasms with eosinophilia and abnormalities of PDGFRB were found. This study was purposed to summarize and analyze the clinical and laboratorial characteristics of the 12 cases with PDGFRB gene abnormalities.

In our previous studies, ZKSCAN3 was demonstrated to be over-expressed in invasive colonic tumor cells and their liver metastases, but minimally expressed in adjacent non-transformed tissues. Further preliminary data showed that ZKSCAN3 was expressed in a majority of prostate cancer patient samples, but not in normal prostate tissues. Moreover, the ZKSCAN3 protein is highly expressed in the PC3 prostate cancer cell line, which has high metastatic potential, but little expression was observed in non-metastatic prostate cancer cell lines.

ETV6 is an important hematopoietic regulatory factor and ETV6 gene rearrangement is involved in a wide variety of hematological malignancies. In this study, we sought to investigate the incidence of ETV6-associated fusion genes in B- and T-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) by multiplex-nested reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in 176 adult ALL patients. Total RNA was extracted from bone marrow samples of ALL patients including 136 B- and 40 T-lineage ALL, and ETV6 fusion genes were detected by multiplex-nested RT-PCR.

Background: Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has been increasingly applied in high-risk hematologic patients due to the absence of HLA-matched donors. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of unmanipulated haploidentical allogeneic peripheral blood stem cells transplantation (PBSCT) for hematologic malignancies.

Study Design And Methods: Patients who underwent unmanipulated HLA-mismatched/haploidentical PBSCT from July 2007 to March 2010 with high-risk hematologic malignancies were enrolled for retrospective analysis.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with progressive memory loss. It has been shown that the cholinergic neurotransmission deficit is one of the neurochemical characteristics of AD, and that L-arginine and its metabolites also play a prominent role in AD pathogenesis. Scopolamine, a non-selective muscarinic receptor antagonist, blocks cholinergic neurotransmission and impairs behavioural function, including learning and memory.

Nanomaterials have some disadvantages in application as Li ion battery materials, such as low density, poor electronic conductivity and high risk of surface side reactions. In recent years, materials with core-shell nanostructures, which was initially a common concept in semiconductors, have been introduced to the field of Li ion batteries in order to overcome the disadvantages of nanomaterials, and increase their general performances in Li ion batteries. Many efforts have been made to exploit core-shell Li ion battery materials, including cathode materials, such as lithium transition metal oxides with varied core and shell compositions, and lithium transition metal phosphates with carbon shells; and anode materials, such as metals, alloys, Si and transition metal oxides with carbon shells.
