As one of most important traditional Chinese medicine resources, the oviduct of female (Chinese brown frog) was widely used in the treatment of asthenia after sickness or delivery, deficiency in vigor, palpitation, and insomnia. Unlike other vertebrates, the oviduct of oviduct significantly expands during prehibernation, in contrast to the breeding period. To explain this phenomenon at the molecular level, the protein expression profiles of oviduct during the breeding period and prehibernation were observed using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) technique.

We propose a method to use artificial neural networks to approximate light scattering by multilayer nanoparticles. We find that the network needs to be trained on only a small sampling of the data to approximate the simulation to high precision. Once the neural network is trained, it can simulate such optical processes orders of magnitude faster than conventional simulations.

There is growing evidence shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) are associated with cancer and can play a role in human cancers as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. MicroRNA-214 (miR-214) shows carcinogenesis in various tumor types, but little is known about biological functions of miR-214 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In this study, we observe that the expression of miR-214 is not only increased in human ESCC tissues, but also remarkably increased in cell lines correlates with LZTS1.

Disturbances in prefrontal cortical (PFC) dopamine (DA) transmission are well established features of psychiatric disorders involving pathological memory processing, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and opioid addiction. Transmission through PFC DA D4 receptors (D4Rs) has been shown to potentiate the emotional salience of normally nonsalient emotional memories, whereas transmission through PFC DA D1 receptors (D1Rs) has been demonstrated to selectively block recall of reward- or aversion-related associative memories. In the present study, using a combination of fear conditioning and opiate reward conditioning in male rats, we examined the role of PFC D4/D1R signaling during the processing of fear-related memory acquisition and recall and subsequent sensitivity to opiate reward memory formation.

Jasmonates, as a plant endogenous hormone, can induce the biosynthesis of terpenoids, alkaloids and flavonoids and other medicinal active ingredients, and play an important role in the plant secondary metabolic process. The tanscription factors can activate the expression of multiple genes in the biosynthesis of plant secondary metabolites by binding the cis-elements of the target genes. Then, it effectively activates or inhibits the activities of the enzymes on the biosynthesis of plant secondary metabolites, further regulate specific biosynthesis and accumulation of secondary metabolites.

Selenium and selenoproteins play important roles in neuroprotection against glutamate‑induced cell damage, in which mitochondrial dysfunction is considered a major pathogenic feature. Recent studies have revealed that mitochondrial fission could activates mitochondrial initiated cell death pathway. The objectives of the study are to determine whether glutamate induced cell death is mediated through mitochondrial initiated cell death pathway and activation of autophagy, and whether overexpression of selenoprotein H can protect cells from glutamate toxicity by preserving mitochondrial morphology and suppressing autophagy.

A single exposure to drugs of abuse is sufficient to induce behavioral sensitization, which is a form of long-lasting neuroplasticity. Dopamine D2 receptors are the main receptor for antipsychotic drugs, but little is known about their role in a single methamphetamine-induced behavioral sensitization. In the present study, we examined whether typical antipsychotic haloperidol and atypical antipsychotic risperidone, both targeting dopamine D2 receptor, could prevent the methamphetamine sensitization when they were given at the different phase of behavioral sensitization.

The emergence and global spread of metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) mediated resistance to almost all β-lactam antibacterials poses a serious threat to public health. Since no clinically useful MBL inhibitors have been reported, there is an urgent need to develop new potent broad-spectrum MBL inhibitors effective against antibacterial resistance. Herein, we synthesized a set of 2-substituted ((S)-3-mercapto-2-methylpropanamido) acetic acid derivatives, some of which displayed potent inhibition with high ligand efficiency to the clinically relevant MBL subtypes, Verona Integron-encoded MBL (VIM)-2 and New Delhi MBL (NDM)-1.

As silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) pervade the global economy, however, the followed emissions during the manufacturing, use, and disposal stages inevitably bring an environmental release, potentially result in harmful impacts. Endothelial dysfunction precedes cardiovascular disease, and is often accompanied by mitochondrial impairment and dysfunction. We had reported endothelial dysfunction induced by SiNPs, however, the related mechanisms by which SiNPs interact with mitochondria are not well understood.

Autophagy plays a dual role in many types of cancer, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Autophagy seems to be inhibited and functions as a tumor-suppression mechanism in the "inflammation-carcinogenesis" pathway of the liver, including hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus, alcoholic steatohepatitis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis related HCC. However, in established tumors, autophagy plays a tumor-promoting role.

Due to the efficiency of learning relationships and complex structures hidden in data, graph-oriented methods have been widely investigated and achieve promising performance. Generally, in the field of multi-view learning, these algorithms construct informative graph for each view, on which the following clustering or classification procedure are based. However, in many real-world data sets, original data always contain noises and outlying entries that result in unreliable and inaccurate graphs, which cannot be ameliorated in the previous methods.
