As a semi-essential amino acid, l-arginine (l-Arg) plays an important role in food, health care, and medical treatment. At present, the main method of producing l-Arg is the use of microbial fermentation. Therefore, the selection and breeding of high-efficiency microbial strains is the top priority.

The addition of medium during industrial fermentation can improve the quality of cigar tobacco leaves after agricultural fermentation. In this study, the cigar filler tobacco "Brazilian Frogstrips YA14" was used as the test material to determine the contents of main chemical components in cigar tobacco leaves after fermentations with the additions of water (control group) and a medium (test group), and the changes in the community structure and abundances of bacteria on tobacco leaves during the fermentation process were analyzed. The results of the study were as follows: 1) During the fermentation process, the protein content of tobacco leaves fluctuated slightly, basically stabilized at 19%-20%.

In order to realise high ionic conductivity and improved chemical stability, a series of anion exchange membranes (AEMs) with semi-interpenetrating polymer network (sIPN) has been prepared via the incorporation of crosslinked poly(biphenyl N-methylpiperidine) (PBP) and spirobisindane-based intrinsically microporous poly(ether ketone) (PEK-SBI). The formation of phase separated structures as a result of the incompatibility between the hydrophilic PBP network and the hydrophobic PEK-SBI segment, has successfully promoted the hydroxide ion conductivity of AEMs. A swelling ratio (SR) as low as 12.

This study aimed to explore the effects of ultra-mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (UMP) combined with ShuoTong ureteroscopy on the stress response, inflammation indicators and urokinase levels in patients with polycystic kidney disease and kidney stones. In this study, 42 patients with polycystic kidney disease and kidney stones diagnosed and treated in our hospital from February 2018 to February 2021 were selected as the research objects. They were randomly divided into the control group and the study group, with 21 cases in each group, and the control group adopted Ultra-mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy treatment; the study group was combined with ShuoTong ureteroscopy on the basis of the control group, and compared and analyzed the stress response, inflammation indexes, urokinase level, renal function, complications and stone clearance rate of the two groups of patients.

Background: Three-vessel disease (TVD) with a SYNergy between PCI with TAXus and cardiac surgery (SYNTAX) score of ≥ 23 is one of the most severe types of coronary artery disease. We aimed to take advantage of machine learning to help in decision-making and prognostic evaluation in such patients.

Methods: We analyzed 3786 patients who had TVD with a SYNTAX score of ≥ 23, had no history of previous revascularization, and underwent either coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) after enrollment.

We reported an aptamer-based sandwich-type biosensor to detect the platelet derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) by chemiluminescence (CL). Employing magnetic beads as a peculiar immobilizing carriers, a sandwich-type biosensor for detection of PDGF-BB had developed. Firstly, Anti-PDGF-BB was immobilized on the surface of magnetic beads to serve as capture antibody.

Advanced thyroid cancer with upper mediastinal lymph node metastasis is not rare in the clinical setting. For patients with severe metastasis, a thoracocervical incision is usually performed for dissection of lymph nodes. However, the difficult operation of three-port thoracoscopy to support performance of a cervical incision in the treatment of upper mediastinal lymph node metastasis has rarely been reported to date.

Article Synopsis
  • The study presents a new method for achieving multifrequency superscattering using a cylindrical system made of graphene and hexagonal boron nitride, allowing for flexible control.
  • By adjusting the chemical potential of graphene, researchers can overlap different resonance channels to create multiple points of superscattering.
  • Numerical analysis shows enhanced scattering capabilities, suggesting that this approach could improve light-matter interactions at extremely small scales, beyond traditional limits.

Multifunctional nanoagents integrating multiple therapeutic and imaging functions hold promise in the field of non-invasive and precise tumor therapies. However, the complex preparation process and uncertain drug metabolism of nanoagents loaded with various therapeutic agents or imaging agents greatly hinder its clinical applications. Developing simple and effective nanoagents that integrate multiple therapeutic and imaging functions remain a huge challenge.

Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world, and the mortality rate ranks first among various malignant tumors. GTP-binding proteins (guanosine 5'-triphosphate-binding proteins, GTPBPs) are a type of protein with signal transduction function, have GTP hydrolase activity, and play an important role in cell signal transmission, cytoskeletal regulation, protein synthesis and other activities. GTPBP2 is one of the members of the G protein superfamily.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, quarantine as an effective public health measure has been widely used in China and elsewhere to slow down the spread, while high-risk psychological response populations remain under-reported. The aim of the study is to investigate the depressive and anxiety symptoms among the high-risk individuals quarantined during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. An online survey was conducted from February 29 to April 10, 2020, among individuals quarantined for at least 2 weeks due to the high-risk exposure.

Nucleotide metabolism is the driving force of cell proliferation, and thymidylate synthase (TYMS) catalyzes a rate-limiting step in the initial synthesis of nucleotides. Previous studies reported that TYMS activity significantly affected the proliferation of tumour cells. However, the diagnostic and prognostic significance of TYMS expression in breast cancer remains unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • * The research found that 627 circRNAs were up-regulated and 892 down-regulated in mice with seizures, highlighting a significant decrease in circHivep2 levels in the hippocampus during epileptic activity.
  • * Overexpression of circHivep2 reduced microglial activation and inflammation in the brain, suggesting that it could be a potential therapeutic target for epilepsy by modulating the miR-181a-5p/SOCS2 signaling pathway.

Neuron apoptosis in ischemic penumbra was proved to be involved in ischemic stroke (IS) development and contributed to the poor prognosis of IS. Recent studies showed that aberrant trimethylation of histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me3) level was associated with cell apoptosis. This study aimed to explore the underlying mechanism of neuron apoptosis in ischemic penumbra histone methyltransferase (HMT) mixed lineage leukemia 1 (MLL1) mediated epigenetic pathway.
