Objectives: Systemic sclerosis is characterised by ischaemic skin ulcers on the fingertips, and low-energy shock wave therapy is suggested as a novel treatment for ischaemic lesions with angiogenic effects. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of shock wave therapy for skin ulcers in patients with systemic sclerosis.

Methods: In this phase 3 pivotal study, we analysed 60 systemic sclerosis patients with digital ulcers that did not disappear after >4 weeks of existing treatment: 30 patients were treated with extracorporeal shock wave therapy and 30 with conventional treatment.

Most teleost fishes exhibit a biphasic life history with a larval oceanic phase that is transformed into morphologically and physiologically different demersal, benthic, or pelagic juveniles. This process of transformation is characterized by a myriad of hormone-induced changes, during the often abrupt transition between larval and juvenile phases called metamorphosis. Thyroid hormones (TH) are known to be instrumental in triggering and coordinating this transformation but other hormonal systems such as corticoids, might be also involved as it is the case in amphibians.

The aims of this study were as follows: the (a) creation of a pregnant occupant finite element model based on pregnant uterine data from sonography, (b) development of the evaluation method for placental abruption using this model and (c) analysis of the effects of three factors (collision speed, seatbelt position and placental position) on the severity of placental abruption in simulations of vehicle collisions. The 30-week pregnant occupant model was developed with the uterine model including the placenta, uterine-placental interface, fetus, amniotic fluid and surrounding ligaments. A method for evaluating the severity of placental abruption on this pregnant model was established, and the effects of these factors on the severity of the injury were analyzed.

This work investigated the spin states of the cobalt(II) complexes [Co()](X) (1·X; = 4'-(4-,'-diphenylaminophenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine, X = PF, BPh) and [Co()](X) (2·X; = 4'-(4-,'-dimethylaminophenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine, X = PF, BPh) in the solid state and in solution. In the solid state, and , both containing smaller PF counter anions, showed gradual spin-crossover. In contrast, and remained in the high-spin state over the temperature range of 5-400 K due to a lower degree of molecular cooperativity.

Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy using the IR Biotyper and core genome single nucleotide polymorphism (cgSNP) analysis were performed on 12 Legionella isolates associated with an outbreak at a spa house in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, and 3 non-outbreak isolates. The discriminative power of FTIR spectroscopy for 48-h incubation conditions of L. pneumophila in this outbreak was lower than cgSNP-based typing but higher than serogroup typing.

Anthropogenically driven climate change is predicted to increase average sea surface temperatures, as well as the frequency and intensity of marine heatwaves in the future. The JSH Practical Guidelines for Hematological Malignancies, 2018 expanded edition, newly adopted brentuximab vedotin, doxorubicin, vinblastine, dacarbazine(A+AVD)protocol as a standard treatment for advanced-stage classical Hodgkin lymphoma(CHL). Therefore, this retrospective analysis compared 15 patients who received A+AVD therapy with 21 patients who received doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarbazine(ABVD)therapy. Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare inflammatory skin disease characterised by skin ulcers that are associated with autoimmune diseases. Although the effectiveness of immunosuppression with glucocorticoids and tumour necrosis factor inhibitors in treating PG has been reported, the utility of negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) for severe ulcerative lesions in patients with PG remains controversial. Platinum(II) complexes with salophen ligands bearing carboxy substituents at different positions, [Pt{(COOH)-salophen}] ( = 2 (1), 3 (2), 1 (3)), were synthesized and characterized by acquiring UV-vis and luminescence spectra. These complexes exhibited systematic variations in absorption spectra depending on the number of carboxy groups, and this effect was attributed to metal-ligand charge transfer with support from density functional theory calculations. The luminescence properties of these complexes were also correlated with structural differences.
