Ethno veterinary uses of medicinal plants of district Karak, Pakistan.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: In the study area, the traditional knowledge regarding the uses of local wild medicinal plants for treating diseases of domestic animals and birds is totally in the custody of elders of the existing community. The young ones are not much aware about such important practices.

Aim Of The Study: The main aim of the study was to document and to release this knowledge from the custody of elders and share with the community.

Small gut atresia in neonates.

Background: Small gut atresia is a common neonatal surgical problem. Early diagnosis and timely management of the neonate can reduce mortality and morbidity in these patients. The aim of this study was to note the causes of mortality and morbidity in these neonates.

Serum sialic acid changes in non-insulin-dependant diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients following bitter melon (Momordica charantia) and rosiglitazone (Avandia) treatment.

Diabetes mellitus is associated with an increase in sialic acid concentration along with other complications. Sialic acid changes in NIDDM patients were investigated following bitter melon (55 ml/24h) and rosiglitazone (4 mg/24h) treatment. A total of 25 patients of both sexes were used in each experimental group.

A new 14-membered cyclopeptide alkaloid from Zizyphus oxyphylla.

One new 14-membered frangulanine-type cyclopeptide alkaloid, oxyphyl line-A (1) has been isolated from the stem bark of Zizyphus oxyphylla together with the known 13-membered cyclopeptide, nummularine R (2). The structure was established on the basis of spectral studies particularly 2D NMR.

Relation of serum sialic acid with serum lipids in cardiac patients.

Elevated serum sialic acid concentration is a risk factor for coronary heart disease in general population along with dyslipidemia. Sialic acid and lipid profile was determined in healthy subjects (Group A1 and A2) and sixty cardiac patients, divided into two groups, group B comprising of thirty male patients and group C comprising of thirty female patients. A highly significant increase was observed in the level of sialic acid and different variables of lipid profile except HDL-C in all patients.

Scalp and cranial bone metastasis of endometrial carcinoma: a case report and literature review.

Objective: The aim of this study is to report a rare case of scalp and cranial bone metastasis of endometrial carcinoma and review the literature.

Method: We report a 45-year-old multiparous woman with FIGO Stage 1A Grade II endometrial adenocarcinoma who presented 3 years following total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with scalp and cranial bone metastasis. Similar cases in the literature are reviewed.
