Due to the complex pathogenic and immune escape mechanisms of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), especially the failure of induced immune responses to block the initial cell-to-cell transmission of the virus from skin cells to neurons, the body struggles to establish effective prevention and control methods, resulting in the failure of currently developed vaccines. Previous studies have highlighted the crucial roles of surface glycoproteins and nucleocapsid proteins in activating the body's immune defense system against HSV-1 infection. In this study, recombinant adenoviruses were used as vectors to generate adenoviruses carrying the nucleocapsid protein genes UL18 and UL25, as well as the surface glycoprotein gene gB.

Corosolic acid (CA), a natural triterpenoid, exhibits various biological activities and is often called as plant-derived insulin due to its significant hypoglycemic effects, making it especially beneficial for individuals with diabetes or high blood glucose levels. However, CA has notable in vitro toxicity, low water solubility, and poor pharmacokinetic properties. To address these limitations, a series of CA derivatives were synthesized, resulting in the identification of derivative H26, which demonstrates a significantly enhanced hypoglycemic effect, reduced toxicity, and improved pharmacokinetic characteristics compared to CA.

  • Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) leads to immune responses and neuroinflammation, which worsen brain injury, and this study explores histone lactylation as a possible factor in this process.
  • Researchers used specific models to examine how microglial histone lactylation affects ischemia-reperfusion injury, finding that increased lactate levels post-AIS correlated with higher histone lactylation and neuroinflammation, especially when SMEK1 expression in microglia was low.
  • The study concludes that SMEK1 is a key regulator of histone lactylation, suggesting it could be a promising target for treatments aimed at reducing neuroinflammation and improving recovery after a stroke.

Over the past decade, most of researches on the communication between the neurons are based on synapses. However, the changes in action potentials in neurons may produce complex electromagnetic fields in the media, which may also have an impact on the electrical activity of neurons. To explore this factor, we construct a two-layer neuronal network composed of identical Hindmarsh-Rose neurons.

Motivation: Burrows-Wheeler Transform (BWT) is a common component in full-text indices. Initially developed for data compression, it is particularly powerful for encoding redundant sequences such as pangenome data. However, BWT construction is resource intensive and hard to be parallelized, and many methods for querying large full-text indices only report exact matches or their simple extensions.
